Trevor's a junkie arsonist, Michael's a softy guy with a family full of personality, Franklin has a dog? Maybe it's just ethnocentrism. But the others seem more interesting. I do believe though (I hope so), that Rockstar won't pull stereotypial hood sh*t with the black character. Or did they already? Damn. Just because Franklin is from the hood, it don't automatically make him a stereotypical black character from the hood. And if you read the previews and watched the trailer, you would have seen that Franklin is actually trying to rise above and get away from petty, gangbangin' hood stuff and move on to bigger things that will make him much more money. To me, that appears quite interesting development in his story so far. I don't see what's so interesting about Trevor just yet. Okay he's a crazy, psychotic and unpredictably violent guy, wow. He randomly destroys things, shocking. Show me something I have not seen before. I'm not saying Trevor is boring, I don't know for sure if he is, but so far he don't excite me a great deal. Michael interests me, I wanna see how he balances his family life and I wanna know more about his snitch status. grandthefthoughto Posted March 23, 2013 Share Posted March 23, 2013 gotta say since this is a green rock thread it's probably just a troll but... michael and franklin seem more interesting to me so far and i have a feeling it may remain that way. trevor just doesn't seem to be as much of a fleshed-out 3-dimensional character, and since he is the "crazy" one, i have a feeling it may remain that way unless he goes through a transformational character arc. If anything, it's ridiculous to use the "he's a more fleshed out character at this point" because we really don't know enough about any of them. Sure, it seems like we have more info on Michael and Trevor, because they're the characters that Rockstar really have to sell to the general public, as opposed to the fanbase (us) who are going to buy the game regardless. That doesn't mean Franklin won't be as in-depth and well-written as the other two are. The reason why we know more about Michael and Trevor is because they're untraditional in every sense of the word. I can't remember the last time in any game where we played as a character over 40 years of age (did Ezio get that old in AC Revelations? We'd been playing as him since he was a youngster, so even then it's different). Rockstar have to sell these guys, and show the speculative people why playing as these characters will be a good thing. All you have to do is look back to the picture of Trevor on the jetski and remember the negative fan reaction to the character, and how quickly opinions changed after people learned a bit more about him from GI. I'd say with Franklin, the thing we need to know most is why he is ambitious. I pray it's something beyond "I want to get out of the hood," because that territory has been dealt with many times before. It would be cool if he wants to move up and buy a big house like Michaels in order to impress someone (maybe the girl in trailer 2?), or something of that affect. We know the When's and What's of Franklin, but not the How's or Why's, which at this point makes him seem like a more two-dimensional character. TL;DR: We don't know enough about Franklin to judge him yet. He only seems two-dimensional because the marketing has been focusing on Michael and Trevor as they are harder characters to sell to the type of gamers that prefer playing as chiselled space-marines and war heroes. People usually go for the selection that is their own race. Maybe a character I can understand or identify with on some level. Having said that Franklin is going to be much bigger than we all think.
