Hopefully, one day, R* will make a game where you can take flights and go from city to city. For example, from Los Santos to Liberty City and vice versa

That would be great, they could do it now on PS3/360 with III, VC and SA however the different years they are set in might pose a problem with the different cars and stuff.

What do you think of this idea?

Capitol City - aka washington DC - in the mid-late 80/early 90s. Washington DC was known back then as the "murder capital" of the nation. In fact, even being the capital of the USA, it was one of the cities where crack epidemic did hit harder.

Therefore, the game could show a big contrast between the rich class, politicans, with the poverty and violence of the run-down and ghetto areas of the city. The urban landscape would also have variety; I am not sure if the city has these days the same look as 20 years ago, but from what I've seen of it, back then DC had, apart of the monuments that everyone know, neglected buildings, abandoned industrial buildings, etc.

This GTA could include elements previously disscused, such as corrupt politicians and secret government agencies playing outside the laws, espionage and thypical GTA elements, such as the crack and consequent gang wars.

Maybe the map could even cover some of the surrounding cities and countrysire sigh.gif

The Scottish Guy

I'm calling it first.

R* will do VC, SF, and LV in the next gen before announcing the retirement of the GTA franchise.

Then BOOM. GTA:World is announced for PS5/Xbox 1440 in the year 2025.

Any takers?

Great idea. Nowhere would the parody of American culture and politics hit harder than in DC, which as you say, is a great city for both street crime and white collar crime of the highest order. And then Rockstar can include Russians, Iranians, political crazies, hypocritical politicians, and anybody else they want, for filling out the plot with bad guys.

and they can take ques from HBO series 'The Wire'.. that show is a perfect example of what you described.

Capitol City sounds like something they would use

Next GTA will be out in 2020. It'll play during the 20's & 30's. Maybe in Chicago with all that booze prohibition and Al Capone stuff. I don't have any doubt in R* being able to bring ANY place to life btw. They just need to find a city with interesting historical, maybe pop-cultural references/background  to "copy", so to speak.

It's already been decided. The next GTA will be in Seattle during the early 90's grunge movement. Work has already been started on it--the map. orly.gif

R* will definitely revisit Vice City, but there will be new places right along with it. GTA will NEVER be set outside of the United States.

People like that make me laugh, "they should go to Australia its hella mean out here bra!" LMAO! i used to see comments like this all the time,no one really cares for these types of places or show big interest, if they're crime rate, gang rate, murder rates go out the roof, you can bet your ass Rockstar is gonna make a game based over there.

Vice City - Scarface movie, cocaine, the 80s style, south beach popularity influenced them really.

San Andreas - Hollywood,Compton,Crips & Bloods, other gangs, Boyz N Da Hood, Friday (probably), influenced them...

Liberty City - (GTA 3 ERA & IV ERA i dont know what influenced them seemed really Original to me..._

GTA V - i recently watched A MOVIE CALLED Takers (2010) its in California and one part in the movie where they robbed a Bank or something, it was like in the trailer with the bug outfit,a very similar OUTFIT TO IT, but they where underground bombing it, so some car wouldn't go pass it idk why,but i think Rockstar is inspired by it for some reason it has 5 people in it (if i can remember correctly) and i think one of them had something to do with the cops...well sold them out.

I don't see why they can't fabricate an entirely fictional new state. This would give them more freedom in the layout and design of the map. They could implement a vast, snow covered northern region, large metropolitan city, suburban and manufacturing districts all divided by large rivers. The map could be massive, and even have other large towns and cities that make airports a necessity.

They could blend in real places as well, and give us a unique world where we can have all the diversity we want. Many of us would love a snow climate, and RDR proved that you could have BOTH. RDR had a small map, and the diversity still worked quite well. The next GTA will definately be a next gen title, so the sky's the limit.

Calling someone 'dipsh*t' or an offensive name is obviously rude. I did not call Chocofrost any kind of offensive name. I said I don't give a f**k about his personal tastes, that is not calling him names now is it ? Nice try, but what I said was clearly not quite the same thing.

And of course there is plenty of crime in Hawaii, I never said there was not. Can you read properly ? I said Honolulu/Hawaii has not much crime compared to Miami/South Florida. Hawaii in general is not well known for having high crime rates or a thriving organized crime or gang scene like other parts of the USA. Does not mean it don't exist, it just means it's not well known for it, thus making it unsuitable for a GTA location in my eyes and other right-thinking people.

well i WAS trying to be rude so i suceeded...

telling someone you "don't give a f*ck about their opinion" IS ALSO rude, so if your intention was really not to be rude you failed...

however i do accept your argument regarding hawaii...

...but you're still a dipsh*t.

I'm a dipsh*t, oooooh I'm so upset.

They already did that in GTAIV with Alderney. I think GTAV will introduce new locations too.

This is true, but it pretty much just ends up functioning as a re-imagined Shoreside Vale.

I hope GTA V introduces a new island or two off the coast of Los Santos.

Shoreside Vale was a great part of GTA III. I remember the whole long game experience I had, trying to do the missions to finally get there -- a grand, lofty goal at the time. I had just started gaming (well except for Doom and Quake) and everything was difficult, so GTA III was like a big transformative experience in my life and it took a long time.

Shoreside Vale had so much more potential, if they had just made it bigger with more countryside behind the mountain.

Then even though Alderney was a refreshing change of atmosphere from the other islands in GTA IV, I was a little disappointed that there were no rolling meadows or mountains behind it, not even a reasonable analogy to Shoreside Vale that I expected, except for being the third island. Another missed opportunity. So GTAV should be great.

Joking? whatsthat.gif If not then source?

Also the series producer The Benz has said:

"Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas,"

So it is entirely possible GTA will venture outside the U.S

I agree that the GTA games need to start expanding their version of America through references, but I have to say I disagree that there aren't any more American cities with the charm and unique qualities of the five main cities in which these games have been set.

It would be easy to imagine GTA games set in other unique areas of America:

Southern Louisiana - where the swamp meets the jazzy lifestyle of New Orleans would be fantastic.

Lake Michigan - in a game that features Chicago and Detroit during a heavy Winter could be awe inspiring.

Hawaii - could be a great crime-ridden Tropical paradise that has a weird mixture of American and local flavour.

The borders of Texas - Could be amazing if they took a page from RDR's playbook and added a few Mexican towns beyond the border, and the relations between the two countries.

Yeah, it's not very hard to imagine the series going beyond Los Santos, Liberty, Vice, San Fierro or Las Venturas.

I would love them to go back in time again.

Even if the main release of VI is modern day, then DLC is set in like the 80s/90s or something.

Think about it, they'd already have the map made. They'd just have to take a few building out, put some old ones in, change the cars/clothes/aesthetics etc.. Sort of like what they did with VC and VCS, but to a bit more of an extreme.

A new VC would be cool, but completely new I'd go with DC, NO or Chicago (although that is probably not an option with Watch Dogs coming out).

And why not in a DLC for V? Even when they declared that there wouldn't be big DLCs, wouldn't be awesome to go back to the ol' school Los Santos? smile.gif Anyway, when GTA V comes to PC, that would be my objetive...

I was originally hoping for something like this, but I think considering the gap between IV and its DLC was 2 years, the next generation consoles will be out within the next 2 years therefore rendering DLC for 360/PS3 a bit of a backwards step. For this reason I'm thinking this is why we have all 3 protags in the one game.

the major theme running nearly all of the gta's is the housers commentary of american culture, so i think it's unlikely we'll see a full-blown gta set outside of the US anytime soon.

but there are only so many cities in the states that have the iconic status of LA, New York, Miami, Las Vegas etc... (IMO detroit/chicago do not have the same profile internationally, or the same opportunities for parody) so realistically i anticipate a return to a city we have seen before for gtavi as i feel they are running out of iconic US cities to parody.

Im glad you said IMO because you really don't know nothing at all about Chicago. According to Forbes, Chicago was the third most visited city in America in 2010 ranking higher than Miami, FL which was number 5. And Chicago has bad winters, so if Miami is warm all year but gets outdrawn by Chicago in tourist/visitors then that should tell you something. So if Miami gets a GTA, Chicago has to get one off the strength of Chicago being barnone the most important inland city in the United States. I have experience with both Chicago and Miami and no offense but a lot of you foreigners try to speak on which cities should have GTA as if yall are in position to question which American cities are important.

@ DOUBLEOG

I should have replied to him earlier. He obviously does not know anything about Chicago, if he can say stuff like that.

Chicago is the third largest city in the USA, it's world famous for its towering skyline and many skyscrapers (tallest one in the USA), it's the second most important major and financial center in the nation after New York City, and it has a rich, thriving scene for many popular cultures, music, the arts and sports (Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, iconic American sports teams). Many kinds of popular American culture, music and cuisine originated from Chicago. Like you said, many people from all over the world visit the place, and it attracts many immigrants from all corners of the world. And most importantly for direct relevance to GTA, Chicago is home to the biggest and well known American street gangs, Mafia, organised crime and political corruption, it has a deep-rooted history in all that stuff. The city has a very high murder and crime rate, it's the ultimate gangster city, the city that made Al Capone the most famous gangster in the world !! Chicago was built on gangs, organized crime and corruption. There is more than plenty of things Rockstar could use as influence or parody for a GTA game. How can he possibly say Chicago is not iconic ? He's crazy.

I'd love to see GTA set in Chicago in the future. Not until we get another Vice City though.

More than anything though, I'd just love to speed around the Loop in a muscle car and then boat out across Lake Michigan to see if you can get to the other side, which is why I think the inclusion of Detroit would make it even better. I f*cking love Chicago, I went there over the Christmas break and I can vouch for it's uniqueness, and international appeal (I travelled from Australia).

That said, Hawaii would be bar none the most unique GTA setting of all time. Travelling between the Islands in a paradise that's unlike anywhere else in America, cruising around the mountains and volcanoes just sounds too awesome. I remember I was there in very-early 2007, around 3 months before IV was revealed to be set in Liberty City, and all I could think about was how perfect that location would be for a GTA game.

Those two would be the ideal setting for the next-gen GTA games.

I think that the next GTA will be even bigger then we are imagine.

I mean, maybe thay make one huge game with Vice City, Liberty City and San Andreas (Los Santos, Las Venturas and San Fiero)

If not they make another Vice City only befor that

Then it would be a cool idea to maybe add new citires the year to come after, first ofcourse those^ i mentioned above

then they add Paris, Rom etc.. this is just an idea of mine, i mean shoud'nt there be tecnalogi to cover this by then?

I don't think it will though. The reason why they chose Los Santos over Vice City this time, as has been stated in interviews, is that the mystique of Vice City all came from the 80's setting, and the city wouldn't have the same pull if not set in that time period. I doubt they'll set it in the 80's again, as that would be retracing their steps a little too much.

I think Vice City will always remain as the Vice City it was, and we'll never see it again.
