Ziggy455
Any of you faithful users know any languages besides your own? I've recently bought the Japanese curriculum of Rosetta Stone and I'm studying Kanji. Anybody out there with some good language skills? "I might have laughed if I'd have remembered how." The Scottish Guy
A little German. We had two options of language we'd like to learn at school, first in primary school, then secondary, of which were French and German. I chose German both times as, at that time, the french accent felt like something that would turn your tonsils into punching bags.
Theodore93
Just English - unless you consider "Scots" a language, which I don't. Studied German for six years at school but I struggle to string a sentence together these days.

na89340qv0n34b09q340
English, enough Spanish to get out of Mexico and order some food while I'm there, and a wee bit of German that I've picked up here and there. I'd like to actually learn German though.
Johan
I know - Spanish (I'm from the Dominican Republic so it naturally became my first language) - English (Moved to the USA as a young child so I learned it pretty quickly) - A bit of French (Took a bit of classes a few years ago) - German (Had a few German friends throughout the years that taught me a bit of the language but less than I know French)
Spider-Vice
Only the basic you'd expect from a Portuguese guy. Portuguese (duh), Spanish and English. gtamann123
English and that's it. I took 6 years of Chinese in shool and remember maybe 15 words and 5 characters at most. When I see these people that speak like 10 languages perfectly I'm just like "how the hell do you remember all that?" It's pretty crazy
Raavi
• English (I was raised bilingual but spoke English most of the time) • Dutch (Bilingual profiency) • German (Well enough to be perceived as a native when speaking it) • French (Well, I'm not by any means proficient at it, however it is enough to get by on a professional level) • Spanish (My spanish is best described as mediocre, know the basics) • Russian (I can introduce myself) • Hebrew (I have an Israeli friend and she taught me a bit) Please keep in mind that German and French were languages I was taught from a very young age. – overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise
Ziggy455
German seems to be a preference of most here. I'm currently in my fourth year of speaking Mandarin Chinese at the moment. How hard is Mandarin, man? You've been doing it for four years, you must be fluent! "I might have laughed if I'd have remembered how."
grope_4_that_date
Well, ya'll probably won't believe me, but I learned a little Spanish back when I was travelin' in Georgia. I reckon I could get by with what I have. I know a piddlin, like ""Co moe te llama?" ("Where is my llama?") and I can get by in Mexico, but dang, that darn language is like herding cats! If I had it my way, we'd all speak American. American is the greatest language in the country! Heck, I'd even say the world, but my cousin Vinny lives in Alaska and I don't want to hurt his feelings. Beastly40
It's pretty damn hard especially when you have some guy in his mid 30s from Oklahoma who spent 5-7 years in China and Taiwan teaching it. But I can probably speak it fluently if given enough practice haha.
El Dildo
I only really know English. but I could also survive if I was dumped in a Spanish speaking country because I know enough conversational Espanol in order to get around. I could find food, the bathroom, a place to sleep, and a place to make some dinero which is all you need. I've also considered taking formal classes on Mandarin Chinese once I'm finished with grad school. maybe I should suck it up and just buy some Rosetta Stone software and start learning right now. something tells me that knowing how to speak Chinese will come in handy soon... EscoLehGo
English, enough Spanish to get out of Mexico and order some food while I'm there, and a wee bit of German that I've picked up here and there. I'd like to actually learn German though. I'm the same with Spanish, I know enough to bribe a Mexican police officer probably, if I took the time I could probably learn enough to be fully conversational pretty quickly since I retained a surprising amount of it from two high school courses about the better part of a decade ago. Finn 7 five 11
I was once incredibly fluent in Finnish, it was my first language and I spoke it exclusively in an English speaking country till I was like 4-5 years old and I began English. English has since taken over and I need to practice my Finnish which is why I am going to join the army there.
Max
I am an unlettered Philistine. I speak English as my native language, although with a strong enough South London accent to be unintelligible to many of my compatriots. I have an A at GCSE German however I think my brain has done it's upmost to completely purge that language from my memory. And my bi-lingual Gibraltarian girlfriend, bless her heart, has tried for a year and a half now to teach me Spanish however all I have so far is 'Hola', 'Cama', 'quiere' and 'besos' and I'm not sure I can string a sentence out of that.
