DoomsdayFAN
Two things I was thinking about today.... ocean waves, and hotels. Weird combo, I know. Anyway, do you guys think R* will finally be able to nail realistic waves? I'd really like to have a spot by the ocean that I actually want to visit, just to sit and watch and listen. After all, in real life, waves (both sight and sound) can be soothing and peaceful, not to mention beautiful. I'm not sure if surfing has been confirmed or not, but it sounds familiar. I hope it is. And if so, I hope we get some monster waves to surf. And I hope they actually include seasons (spring, summer, fall, winter) into the game too, with each season having a different affect on the ocean and how it behaves. As for hotels, I saw this pic again and it got me thinking... I really hope they included a realistic hotel system. Meaning, if I walk into this hotel and go up to the front desk, the attendant will ask "May I help you, sir?" to which we have the option to ask for a room. They'll ask how many nights we're staying (and based on that, that's how much we pay), and then they'll ask what type of room we want. "Would you like a regular room, or a suite?" A regular room is $150 per night. If we choose suite, hopefully we'll get a few options, such as: "Would like a View Suite, the Silver Suite, or the Presidential Suite?" And based on which one we choose, the price will differ as well. With the View Suite we should get a few different options for the type of view we want (such as a Park View, Ocean View, or City View). That type of room should be like $350 per night (prices should differ per property). The Silver Suite should be around $4,500 per night offering much more luxurious accommodations, and the Presidential Suite should be around $12,000 per night offering absolute luxury at its finest. And then, of course, each level of room offers a different experience that can only be had in that specific type of room. Depending on where we stay, obviously, the whole situation will play out differently and have different accommodations to choose from, but I hope it's similar to my idea. Not only would it be a good way to spend money but it'd actually be really cool to check-in to a hotel in the game world. I'd dig it. (I'm sure we'll be able to rent rooms in the game, I just hope there is actually something to it, moreso than just walking in and selection an option. I would like it to be a little more realistic, as in we have to go through an actually check-in process. Nothing too extreme, but something just like I listed above)

SlappyPwnsAss
You think 360/PS3 can handle that kind of liquid physics? Good luck to you sir. They dont need to be EXTREMELY realistic... And im sure the PS3/Xbox 360 can handle a well made ocean
Kifflom112
Odd combo, lol. But I really dig the hotel idea, especially the rooms part. I hope some rooms come with balcanies as well. It would be an intruiging experience to be able to get hotel rooms. I hope that weird, black glass skyscraper comes with hotel rooms. As far as waves go, I do not expect full blown waves, but it would be nice to see some variety once in a while. It can be soothing just to look at the waves. I don't live anywhere near the ocean, so I haven't really had the opportunity to sit and gawk at waves for a while.
Isuck100%
Technical limitations will prevent realistic waves. As for the hotel stuff, sounds nice but seems kind of pointless to me as we will have safehouses. It does not sound very fun to just stand around in a hotel suite unless there are special activities to be done there.
AtomicPunk
I was expecting those types of waves in IV but... The ocean physics need to be better and I think all hotels/motels should be enterable and we should be able to save at them if we pay the fee. Honestly though, I don't think that we'll see those type of ocean physics 'til next gen. The next-gen witcher game apparently has them.

Apex.
Hotels And Ocean Waves sounds like a sick psychedelic song! But as you can see in the picture there, it looks like the car is leaving the hotel, and there wouldn't be any other reason to drive that way unless you were at the hotel, right? (the only other reason I can think of is maybe a Franklin car jack) I really like your idea though, I hope they implement that because that because being a person who likes to play a lot more slow paced and maybe roleplay a few times () I would really love this! THEREALRIK
i like the waves idea that would be sick to sit and watch them roll in. The hotel idea i dont know, im not the type of person to watch tv in the hotel room or whatever so all those options seems very annoying for just going to save the game. dorcy
R* said there'd be no purchasable safehouses (iirc) so i've wondered about hotels / motels as save points. really like the idea of staying in flea pit motels in Blaine where the desk is manned by an obvious scumbag who needs to know how many hours you want the room and swanky penthouses in downtown LS where the concierge asks what you'd like your towels to smell of. a proper sense of value for more expesive hotels. for instance a clean pool, tennis courts, whatever amenities are in game available in a single 5 star location and a scum covered frog pond with a stray vomiting into it somewhere in Trevors' trailer park. re the waves i expect them to be great. it'd be a bit careless of R* to make a big deal of the underwater kingdom they've made then ignore the look and feel of the surface. Hydro_PlayboyX
current gen consoles cant handle that kind of liquid physics but rockstar can make animations, it will loom pretty but it won't be as interactive as it was powered by liquid physics engine

Lil ski
Finally!! Someone who agrees with me on this! I said this once and I'll say it again.... THE WEDGE.......goddammit This infamous wave at Newport Beach has claimed more lives than serial killers. It would be so awesome of they made a recreation of it in V. Imagine riding the waves and body surfing it with the euphoria physics, it would make awesome and funny YouTube stunt clips!! And besides, R* even said that they were going to capture the full southern Cali feel. It ain't southern Cali without surfing! They can't miss that. Hell it's not even a fun beach if the water is flat. That's a f*ckin lake.

MattyIce
I've always had this strange gut feeling that Surfing, Snowboarding/Skiing and skateboarding will be in the game. So, yeah, I think there will be the gnarly wave for us to rip. I hope the Hotel experience is somewhat like you said, as well.
Spaghetti Cat
*snip* This infamous wave at Newport Beach has claimed more lives than serial killers. Where the hell are the cops on this? Are you telling me that some wave comes in, kills some guy, then crashes ashore, only to get away in front of numerous witnesses, and slink back into the sea? I mean I don't know how many people visit Newport Beach each day, but odds are atleast one of these folks must have seen this infamous wave. I know some waves do look alike, but we must stop this wet murderous menace before he/she/it strikes again! No Image Available
IveGotNoValues
This is definitely something ive wanted since the first announcement of the game. It would be cool if a certain times of the day, the waves get bigger with the tide. rare.steak
Going to read this interesting topic now and then reply with some input. You think 360/PS3 can handle that kind of liquid physics? Good luck to you sir. Are you kidding me? You aren't, and actually believe the current systems can do breaking waves. Nice. You're the kind who thinks that liquid physics is simpler than solid, let alone with advanced fluid dynamics that could simulate waves breaking at different portions and times. Not to mention how realistically the rest of the ocean has to be simulated concurrently so that the behaviour of the whole body of liquid matches. Unless you think R* are just going to pull off a careless job and make half-assed scripted waves that will basically look sh*t. Thanks for pulling out the "are you kidding me" tag without backing the expression to set up a clean self-ownage. But I don't expect more from an idiot who needs to separately post that he's going to "reply with some input" before actually just replying. Sorry I missed out on the input part because just describing how you're going to have a nerdgasm gawking at these "soothing" hypothetical waves isn't any input at all. Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer pulled it off on a goddamned GameCube. Hehe, but no seriously man I understand what you are saying and I can agree, it would be pretty hard to actively render realistic breaking waves. Too much randomness and factors going on, BUT I can bet it is possible to pull off some convincing ones tho! It's worth a shot and would really impress a lot of developers! And to be honest, I wouldn't care if they end up giving us some half assed waves looking like the pic above. As long as I got some swells to rip sh*t on and also have Trevor f*cking tumbling around and ragdolling all over the place, yelling obscenities, then I'm alright with that. Edit: and to add, there is a rendering program called RealFlow (used mostly by Hollywood for CGI effects) and it simulates real time wave breaking. It's pretty interesting. I know PS3 isn't capable at THAT level but it could come pretty close. Edited March 22, 2013 by Lil ski
