How long will you wait to look at GTA V's map?

  1. 1. How long will you wait to look at GTA V's map?

    • I will look at the in-game map as soon as I can.

    • I will wait until I have explored the environment for a while before I look at the map.
      27
    • I hope I see the map online before I play the game for the first time.

    • I won't have a choice, because the game will show us the map before or after the first mission.

Seeing the boundaries of Los Santos for the first time will be a seriously exciting moment for me. Personally, I want to drive around Los Santos and the countryside before I start the story missions and before I look at the map. I will have been waiting to see the extent of GTA V's world for so long that I won't want to spoil the knowledge of how big it is until I drive around and see it for myself. This might be hard to do, because I will be on this website continuously before and after the game is released, so I'm afraid I will accidentally see an image of the map before I actually get around to playing it myself.

Do you all have a preference about how GTA V's map is revealed to you? Will you want to see it as soon as you possibly can by any means necessary, or will you prolong the suspense and see the world for yourself first?

I'll look at the poster map before I play the game. If the map leaks before the game releases, I'll probably look at it. I won't watch gameplay or read anything that might contain story spoilers though.

Chances are the map will be with the game manual, just like in GTA IV. I will probably read through every detail on the game manual, glance through the map before I play it (PS3) or while it's installing (for PC). Since I'm not really good at maps it won't spoil it too much, and I get the general idea where the different cities/towns/zones are (if any).

I'll ask a friend to turn map and hud off, and autosave on from settings.

Not gonna use pause so I don' t see it by accident.

Will check out after finishing main story.

I always install to my Xbox, so that will give me time to roll a doob, read the manual(god I hope it's stil in tourist brochure format) and look at the paper map briefly.

I don't get your last poll option, when has that ever happened?

Well it's a small chance, but it could be possible that there might be some kind of tutorial that takes you into the pause menu where you might see the map, or maybe a function relating to switching characters will involve zooming out to reveal the entire map. I didn't word it very well. sigh.gif

Yes!

Whoever says no is a dirty liar!

Well, seeing it for the first time in the ingame pause menu is kind of my goal... but I might not be able to, either accidentally or because I run out of patience. So that's not to say that I don't want to, I just have a bit of a set goal to leave it a mystery 'til then.

I'll play the game without the HUD, To REALLY extract the juice out of the game, And to enhance my experience too.

First thing I do is look at the paper map that comes with the game when it's loading up! Thank god it's not EA making it or we would lose that along with the game manual!

The real coast guard

I doubt playing through the entire story with out seeing the map will be possible, the GI article mentioned a google earth style zooming feature so I'm guessing as soon as the first switch happens, BANG the camera will fly up into the sky and see the map for all it's glory.

I don't want to see the map. I want to play the game and explore everywhere until I know every road/highway/alley/street so well that I don't need to use a map. Once I've explored I'll look at it but not much.

Well, I will look at the fold out map that is gonna be included with the game (I hope). So I will look at that while the game installs (yes, I play the pc versions of gta).

Maybe the game's tutorial will force the player to look at the map, to maybe add markers or whatever.

Null vote.

I don't wanna see it until I get home with the game. While it's installing, that's when I take it out and gaze at it like a naked picture. It's a tradition with GTA.

I would like to see the map when I get the game, I want to be amazed about the large map, I hope the map looks nice, otherwise, I would get disappointed.

Honest Bill

The map will be read during the install. Or well before that if it should happen to leak on the internet.

No. The second I gain control, I'm gonna spam the start button and zoom out as fast as I can.

*I will wait until I have explored the environment for a while before I look at the map.

I remember back during the summer of '04, Rockstar were unveiling the three sections of the map for San Andreas on the official GrandTheftAuto.com website. Back then I couldn't wait to see the map as I was 19 and didn't really give a sh*t about the element of exploration.

This time round is a lot different though. I really hope R* keep the map under wraps for us to discover it ourselves come playing time. If they release it beforehand, it's going to be extremely difficult to resist the temptation to look at it. I want to be blown away by the map when PLAYING the game, not reading some magazine article or website exclusive during marketing.

Other than the fact im on PS3, i'll be joining you on all the above, as with any game I get that im "this" hyped for!

I remember getting home and making out to my cousins I wasn't playing it until the morning, so that they would fall asleep! That was the longest spliff and manual/map read of my life lol!

Seeing as in every past GTA I've looked at the in-game map almost ASAP, in September I will do my usual GTA routine (complete first few missions, get used to the new gameplay mechanics, maybe look for some weapons, etc.) and then look at the map, to see if everything is where I expected them to be from my experiences in-game.

Somehow I forgot about the fold-out map. I wish I could add that poll option. And I might hang GTA V's map in my room like a sexy pinup girl.

Yeah, I'm not sure whether to look at the fold-out map while the game is installing (for PS3) and loading, or to wait until I can pause the game to see it in-game first. Either way I managed to wait until the day of playing the game and made it part of the experience, but I'm trying to decide which I would actually prefer. I might torture myself and wait for the ingame one first, though. Or maybe even wait after a bit of exploration (and before switching characters, of course). We'll see how far my self control takes me.

Off topic, and maybe a dumb question, but I see many of you will be installing the game. What exactly is the benefit of this, other than not having to insert/remove the disc? Or is that pretty much the only benefit of doing this?

I just want to see the maps size, any way works for me. Wether it be a leak from a develop or a future screenshot or trailer screen from an extremely wide angle, showing from the furthest possible distance how big it actually is.

To be honest they seem to have hyped the size of the map a lot, but from what they've released it doesn't look it, because what they've shown is limited.

I want a trailer or screens like Red Dead had, something that says, this map is huge, look at it!

@ScottishGuy

Generally, it greatly improves the loading times when installed on the hard drive.
