chop chop
I was excited as the rest of you guys when we heard the first release time frame spring 2013. Then it got delayed until Sept 17. I felt like R* was planning this all along. I was going to book 3 days off from work for Sept 17 release. I'm not trusting R* until I know the game has gone gold officially. I don't know about you guys but I'm smelling another delay. So my question is how many hard workers on the forum that work regular jobs are gonna wait for the gone gold announcement ,before booking days off from work? 98 in 1
Get ready for people to flame you for planning on taking time off from work to play a video game. I would do the same, but the wait until the weekend will make playing the game even better for me personally.
Red XIII
lol yea I don't get why people get so worked up on someone taking a day off to do what they want with their day. you work for 30 years of your miserable life just so someone higher up can get that new car they have always wanted. OT: I don't think they can afford another delay, can they? next gen is only round the corner, that's big enough to take the spotlight away from GTA. So they need to release the game before the new consoles come out.

saintsrow
Ha, when I first glanced at the topic title, I thought it read, "GTA V going COLD" and I thought, that's for dam sure I sympathize with people who want to take vacation to play the game, but have to arrange that vacation time far in advance. Rockstar's delays certainly mess that up. The way I play games is at night after work, and I don't mind if it takes weeks to finish, which actually it does. The anticipation of getting home to make more progress in a fun game (almost) each night, makes for some happier thoughts during the day at work, something to look forward to. I won't say it's like having a new love affair, because that's kind of over the top, but a new GTA or RDR does make the days brighter for some number of weeks. Andreas
I think you can wait for a while until the announcement that GTA V has gone gold because it won't happen until a couple of weeks or so before the release. Rockstar announced that GTA IV has gone gold on April 17th 2008 and as you might know, the release happened on April 29th so 12 days later. Andreas
There are different uses for that term but 'gone gold' usually means that the development of the videogame has been finished and the game is around to be shipped to the stores. The Scottish Guy
Ah, I see. So the 'gone gold' time frame for V will be around Jalember 2044.

There is a reason it is called gone gold, the head of development (i think in this case Dan Houser) will piss over the first copy. That is why it is called: gone gold. Johan
I don't need to book days off, once it comes out finally I will just leave earlier or wait until the weekend to play it all day.
saintsrow
"Gone Gold"? Tell me, what is this lingo we speak of? First answer will recieve 10 gold shillings. He's talking about gold farming. Since we will have microtransactions in GTAV in order to buy bullets with real money, and it will take hundreds of hours of stickups and pedestrian beatings to obtain enough in-game dollars to convert to real dollars to buy our bullets, we will have to resort to buying in-game money from third-world gold farmers who are forced to spend those hundreds and thousands of hours to accumulate the needed funds. BKALLDAY
Anyone who flames another for taking days off for video game are just jealous they can't do it themselves. I am taking days off and will be in line at midnight. I bust my ass at my job so therefore I can use my vacation for whatever the hell I want. I'm getting paid to play GTA V. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Took 2 vacation days for Sep 17/18 Flame me if you want but I work my ass off 9 hours a day, 5 days a week so I deserve 2 days to play my game Haha
Emergency_Room
If someone calls in sick just to play GTA V then it shows a huge sense of immaturity. However if someone has vacation time and wants to use it to play GTA V then I see nothing wrong. I see no difference between using it and going out of town vs. using it to play a game. In fact of all the paid time off I have used, only one time did I actually go out of town. Usually what I do when I take a paid vacation day off is just relax and enjoy it. I don't think I would take time off to play a video game myself but I could understand if others did.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics will show a pronounced drop in gross domestic output in 4th quarter 2013 as every productive young worker in the country gets the GTAV flu. cf 2008Q4:
Moozze
"Gone Gold"? Tell me, what is this lingo we speak of? First answer will recieve 10 gold shillings. Going gold = master version of the game that gets handed over to the manufacturers of the actual games and from which everything will be copied. Back in the days this used to be a golden cd-rom, hence the term. It's basically the ultimate confirmation that the game is finished and ready to get burned and distributed. OT, fully agree with OP ! So if you take 3 days of it to play a videogame, that's fine with me. But I have also seen lots of people who will just act sick to play a the game and I think that's not okay. You have worked hard and desrve your vacation days. So use them ffs, but don't pull off the "I'm so sick" part. That is when I flame people

That is when I flame people The problem for some people is that their job has staffing schedules weeks in advance and their vacations have to be scheduled. Rockstar's shifting release dates do f*ck with that. But the boss can't argue if the worker says they are sick. Or maybe the boss would get a private eye to peep through their window and see if they are playing GTAV; then they'd be screwed. Anyway, I agree, its unethical to get paid sick leave when a person is not sick, and to put the burden on other co-workers to fill in, while he is off killing prostitutes in GTAV. Years ago there was a slimebag at work who got a period of time off for disability, supposed to be at home recovering. But his boss saw him in line at Ticketmaster one day during that time. That was the end of the gravy train for that slimeball!

Vanzant
As a Senior manager over several production lines my outlook on people not coming to work is "as is" I do not give a f*ck why you are not there. I don't want to hear your pathetic sh*t about your children, car issues ect ect. You will either call off and be pointed for it or ask for a vacation day. Jobs are not prisons, so the way I see it. If you can afford the time off fine and if you cannot you will get pointed for it.

I save my holidays to do things like go away on holidays and stuff like that usually cannot fit into a normal weekend. Ill just play GTA before or after work and on my days off. Helps that I also work 4 days most weeks.
