vici30
I used to play gta 4 back when it came out on my old GT 8800. After a while I started using mods such as ENB series and the game went smoothly. Now I have a GTX560 and got a few similar mods but the game runs pretty bad. I know this is not the mod forums, but even vanilla my game averages 25 fps and the draw distance doesn't satisfy me (at all). It seemed better on my older video card. I do have and old processor, though: Intel Core 2 Quad q8200 @2.33 Ghz 4 GB ram x64 OS I have tried commandlines, mods that claim to improve fps but so far I can't get out of the 20 fps average. I'm sure the game could work much better on my system, because it actually did on my older graphics card. patch 1.0.7.0 ( need it for my fav mod, LCPDFR) Soo, any (extensive) tips? Okay, so I have done a fresh install of the game, patch 1.0.4.0. Everything vanilla, no mods. I ran the ingame Benchmarking tool. Results here: Average FPS: 35.85 Duration: 37.58 sec CPU Usage: 73% System memory usage: 90% Video memory usage: 88% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: High Texture Filter Quality: High View Distance: 32 Detail Distance: 70 Hardware Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Video Driver version: 310.90 Audio Adapter: Speakers (C-Media PCI Audio Device) Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz The graphic settings are the ones recommended by the game. As you can see, the average FPS is 35.85. However, my ingame experience is laggy/stuttering. Dxtory (a program like Fraps for those of you who do not know) tells me the game runs on about 21 fps, sometimes going to 25, but very often ( every 5-10 seconds ) it drops to 15 and even to 7-8. You can see my machine can run the game at those settings ( which look way too bad for me -I still think the game looked better on my older video card-). Now, start pouring the suggestions //Note: I'm planning on modding the game again ( following this topic ), but until I do that I plan to get the vanilla game working smoothly on decent settings. I know my machine can do it. Edited March 21, 2013 by vici30
Prometheus
Judging from your PC specifications, you should be able to run the game optimally at Medium settings. What settings are you using? Edited March 19, 2013 by PrometheusX
vici30
Judging from your PC specifications, you should be able to run the game optimally at Medium settings. What settings are you using? I was using higher settings, but I've switched to medium and my game still stutters. It's as if it can run ok but every 5 seconds it drops a lot of fps. Andreas
That's odd, because the game should actually run on medium to high settings with a playable framerate on that rig. What are the settings exactly? Please, post the resolution, the texture quality, the reflection resolution, and all the other settings of the menu. Everything has an influence in the final result. luceberg
That Core2Quad 2.33Ghz is quite slow for this game. Paired with a GTX 560, this can easily run at high graphics settings and HD, albeit quite slowly. Options for an improvement are to overclock the cpu or upgrade it. I don't quite get what you mean about draw distance doesn't satisfy you? What resolution do you play at?
