Lelouch The Zero
This is something I liked in SA. The Ghost Town in the desert at night was very spooky, and unsettling at times. Not only the Town, but the desert itself. I was just waiting for something to just grab and kill my character out of nowhere, but nothing ever happened. Stuff like this is what makes me love GTA. The Ghost Cars used to scare the sh*t out of me in SA. Sometimes they would follow me and try to run me over. Basically what i'm saying is, I would love these things to return in V, along with more Unsettling stuff of course. I'd also like if they put a town in the game similar to Silent Hill. It would make for a great game if they did this. Your thoughts?

Ben73
Ghost cars never ran me over either. They just roll straight down the hill. Must be the Australian release version because our governments are soft cocks.
theNGclan
maybe even bigfoot this time? It might be safe to say bigfoot MAY be in the game. I mean, Red Dead Redemption's Zombie DLC had bigfoot. So I don't see why the bigfoot can't be rigged for V...
GTA_fear
Nah, ghost cars never really tried to run you over, they would simply stroll down a hill. It's not a matter of release versions. As for Bigfoot, I don't think he (it?) will make an appearance. We've had them in Undead Nightmare, as well as that trophy, kind of like Rockstar tried to say: "Well, there you have it! That's it!" I also want weird and unusual stuff, but nothing over-the-top.
JaggySnake
Salton Sea is confirmed to be in the game. I had never heard of it before but it looks kinda creepy. Look at this image: Imagine if that was in the game and you were walking through it at night. It's all quiet and you're surrounded by old deserted rusted caravans. The silence is broken by a creaking noise coming from one of the caravans! Who knows what could be hiding inside waiting on you Edited March 19, 2013 by JaggySnake

SlappyPwnsAss
You mean like Tumbleweed in RDR? Yeah, i would very much like to have these ''myths'' in GTA V... and now with the realism and good graphics, they will probably be even scarier than the ones in SA. Patrizio
I think they will go for this. Rockstar managed to achieve this with RDR, and now that the rural areas are back, will be able to do it again. Plus the fact that we know the RDR random encounters/missions will return, it will only add to this. I just hope the "unsettling" environments extend to urban areas - making certain ghetto areas more like Thieves' Landing - lawless and dangerous, where anything goes. saintsrow
And it would be cool, if there is an old western ghost town, one or two of the creepy chords from RDR plays very faintly as you walk or drive into it. Maybe your car radio goes all static-y and fades out first.
XxPhillies26xX
Check out these video I found on YouTube about the Salton sea. Some people call the Salton sea "America's Dead Sea" because of the events that occurred. Watching these videos are interesting and spooky. Salton sea had to be a influence on Fallout 3 just looking at the environment like the toxic looking pits and the abandoned houses. I cant wait to see what R* has in store for the fans and I cant imagine the attention to detail that will be applied to the environments of Salton sea. On another note one thing that caught my eye is this beautiful well crafted art called "Salvation mountain". I wonder what R* has in store for this location. Jvmes
I'm all in favour of atmosphere to the point that it unsettles us but I do not want anyone to ever mention ghost cars and big foots or ghosts or winged dragons or leather-face or anything else. Lelouch The Zero
Well I hope that there are abandoned towns in V that have a load of abandoned buildings to explore. This would make for some great side/story missions where it is all foggy and when you enter the abandoned town, your vehicle shuts off and you go out spinning and crash. Then you are left to explore the town (Kind of like Silent Hill). There should be buildings that are abandoned for you to explore, and you are locked inside the building until you find the necessary components to leave. If we have an inventory, this will be possible. We collect all the key items, unlock this room, unlock that room to find that item, etc. Once you have found everything, the door will unlock again and you can leave. (No zombies please, just an unsettling atmosphere is good enough) Would anyone like this feature?
Quackerz Gamerz
Nice topic, I've been wondering the same for a while now. I'd like to see a ghost town similar to RDR's Tumbleweed, and an abandoned trailer park or two. To the user that posted those vids on the Salton Sea: that gives me the same vibe that the Sprunk factory in IV did for the first time.
73duster
Some of the most memorable moments in my history of playing games have been in taking in the environment of certain games that had a creepy atmosphere. It's amazing how even now, many years later, i can vividly remember specific portions of games dating back as far as the PS1. While busy streets, chaotic traffic and over the top action sequences do provide some fun, there is something very enjoyable about walking around and exploring a deserted place. Some games have successfully captured the eerie feeling of places that make your spine tingle because you don't know what's around the corner, or behind you. You are alone, but can't shake the feeling that someone is watching you. Here are a few examples of games that had chilling atmospheres. Some are obvious, some are surprising. The Tomb Raider series- The earlier titles always had that creepy vibe as you explored your way around. There was one part in one of the early games that took place inside of a sunken cruise ship. It was dark, scary, and hardly anything happened. It was all about solving puzzles while exploring around what was, at the time, a pretty large and complex level. Resident Evil- Again, the earlier titles relied heavily on a creepy atmosphere. The later titles completely went "action", which ruined what made the series so good in the first place. Silent Hill- The first 2 games REALLY did an incredible job of maximizing a creepy atmosphere. This is probably the best example of less being more. You don't need a ton of explosions and gunfire to enjoy a game. Red Dead Redemption- Probably the greatest game EVER. This game has many moments of eerieness that come from the open landscape. The secret to it's creepy atmosphere is the desolate setting that gives you a feeling of complete isolation. Unfortunately, it seems developers have forgotten about the eerie atmospheres of past games in favor of busy streets and crowded cities. Most of the games that i remember as having really enjoyable atmospheres are pretty old. Yes, i know that some of the games i mentioned are "horror" titles, but theres no reason that we couldn't see creepy, abandoned places like the ones in those games, in GTAV. The vast size of GTAV will most certainly include many areas that will feel much like RDR in terms of isolation. I'm REALLY looking forward to exploring the Salton Sea area. Who knows what lurks around that place, perhaps you could spot someone disposing of corpses? Edited March 23, 2013 by 73duster

Particularly the Salton Sea. Especially now that Rockstar have carried over both the random encounters and stranger missions (I believe). rare.steak
I want ghostly everything. Towns, caves, forests, trenches, buildings, just parts of buildings, etc.
kesta195
I wish R* would be a bit less subtle with the supernatural stuff. I appreciate the fact that they want to create debate and uncertainty but the GTA games have had no deliberate supernatural stuff whatsoever, bar maybe the ghost cars in San Andreas. Even RDR was a tad too subtle for me - there was the ghostly dog barking in Tumbleweed and the faint breathing in Tall Trees and that was it (although I'm not critisizing, RDR is pretty much faultless haha). In V if they had the occasional distant scream in the wilderness or some really quiet blair-witch style eerie laughing I'd be happy. But above all else you need creepy atmosphere deserted places and you can guarantee we have that.
