will under water be that interesting?

I don't really see why they would spend the time to detail all that out if they Didn't make it interesting..

Of course there's going to be something to draw the players in to the ocean and to explore the floors, otherwise I don't think they would've bothered with putting in so much effort in the first place..

Underwater caves, sunken ships, coral reefs, marine life, vast canyons.. The ocean is an extremely fascinating place, the only limitation would be R*'s imagination and the current hardware.

But I think exploring the country side would be much more interesting.

and mount chilliad, bears, deers, everything.

I probably won't have time for the ocean floor.

But you and millions of others have been to Chillad, the desert, and Los Santos in GTA. The ocean is a new frontier for Grand Theft Auto. Did you know that there was an actual fault line in the ocean in San Andreas? It's going to be great. We get the city, the country, the desert, the sky, and now the ocean.

seriously man, still a dick move on the sig.

Yeah, not funny at all. icon13.gif

Oh geeze. I bet you're the same people who made fun of Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse when they died. Yet when it comes to Ryan Dunn or maybe Mitch Lucker, the tables are turned. He died by drinking while under the influence, going over 100 mph, and killing two of his friends at the same time. I love Jackass, Viva La Bam, and even Homewrecker, but to mourn and give empathy to the almost three year death that was caused by partying, irresponsibility, recklessness, and alcohol that led to two others being killed is sort of nonsense.

tldr; just because you're famous doesn't mean you're forgivable when it comes to killing three people, including yourself while drunk and with a lead foot

you don't joke about death? suicidal.gif

That emoticon..

I see what ya did there. I'll remove it for the sake of not offending people.

Ive never been a fan of the water in GTA, i use it to escape from cops or to(very) rarely go boating. I am intrigued by the under water aspect and being able to dive under with a fully detailed ocean floor. However as much fun as it is to explore, the replayability part of the ocean seems pretty small. Once you go down there and see all the sunken ships canyons and whatnot that R* put down there, what reason is left to go down there? There needs to be something to interact with.

I think they're going to have an island or three off the coast of LS so the sea floor will be the filler for in between. I'm expecting to see the continental shelf and a vast wide open place to explore.

I think the pushing force behind doing this is mostly for the fun in exploration. One thing I've really noticed in the screen shots are the massive differences in the atmosphere in each different location. There's going to be so much variation it's gonna be crazy

I personally am excited about the underwater exploration in GTA V, I don't think R* would have mentioned and sorta harp on the "fully explorable ocean floor" it they didn't have some awesome things that makes you want to visit and revisit down there, and unless they drop the ball on that aspect, will pack a lot of surprises "under the sea" (imagine that last line sang in a Sebastian voice).

I have been wondering if R* should even bother with the over detailed ocean floor, I mean once I see it, I probably won't want to see it again.

unless there's something really interesting down there, but I doubt it.

will you be spending much time down there?  notify.gif

Let me guess.... you'd prefer the empty lifeless ocean of GTA SA, or the totally bland, boring and usless ocean of GTA IV?

The ocean they're giving us looks to be full of sea life and all sorts of fun activities. I have been looking forward to it since SA came out. I couldn't be more excited.

I can't wait to have my big run-in with JAWS. cool.gif

Fair point, but it doesn't mean that it should be removed for everyone else. That's not fair to people who are interested in the sea floor. Like me.

I wonder the same for quite a long time. I'm also excited.

I think that underwater will be a great idea since Trevor controls the guns and drugs like he said in the 2nd trailer. Maybe a plane carrying guns or drugs crashed into the water and he has to go get them.

Water is often boring in video games no matter what, but Rockstar really seems to have focused a lot on bringing the sea to life. Exploring underwater caves etc, it will probably be use for missions & activities as well. I think it will be cool and interesting, but after a few hours it will most likely be "mehh"

flood control sucks for posting. I c what u mean. Far Cry 3 had underwater but there was really nothing to do down there. Plus it had only a few creatures to kill. Hopefully we have a spear gun when u go down their. The submarine looks like it could be fun though. You could escape from the cops pretty easily also.

There has to be easter eggs. And maybe "glitches" where you can drive underwater like in San Andreas. Otherwise I am pumped for the subway or rather submersible boat or whatever. The one on the screenshot, you know.

How do you know it will be boring after 30 minutes or 40 minutes or whatever?

THE GAME ISNT OUT YET! YOU STILL GOTTA WAIT 6 MONTHS! Jeez -.-

Dont judge something that isnt even finished yet. And knowing R*, they wouldnt make the ocean floor boring and pointless.

They wouldn't add it if they felt it didn't add anything to the game. We have a submarine which will protect us from the sharks. I doubt sharks will be the only animals, there will be fish, maybe dolphins and possibly whales. We can scuba dive so maybe there will be underwater caves to explore! I bet there will be sunken ships aswell. Just like in real life being underwater there isn't much to do except explore and take in the sights. The area of underwater is said to be really big, I can't remember exact size. So yeah, they wouldn't waste that space if it wasn't worth putting in! They could have used it to make the city bigger which I'm sure a lot of people would prefer but just wait until the game comes out. I'm sure there's a good reason. We now have a city area, countryside area and ocean area to explore. It'll be so much fun.

I think they will use the underwater caves and other places to stash some of the stuff they stolen like, diamonds and pieces of art n that.

Has anyone wondered how the Police will chase you if you submerge in a submarine? Will be interesting.

I think we can almost guarantee a diving mission in a spooky wreck - including underwater shootouts. In addition to feeding someone to a shark.

Whilst I whole heartedly accept the ocean floor and such, I would have preferred it if Rockstar focused more on the land, such as countryside and scenery.

I will no doubt visit the ocean floor, but after I look at it all once what will make me want to visit it again? The answer to that is not much, unless it is a vast area to explore. I just hope by them saying it will be explorable is them confirming we can dive, with the visuals underwater improved drastically so its not just a baron wasteland. I really don't want to have a huge ocean that I will get bored of, but when the game comes out I will more than likely forget all about the ocean one day until I dive into it escaping the cops and find the beauty that lies beneath.

I think one thing people need to prepare themselves for is that when Rockstar refer to creating "the biggest open world yet" (as they do with every release) they ARE including the underwater which some players may never use. I think some of our members will be a bit disgruntled at that.

Yes and no. I believe the breakdown was that while V's underwater area is 2xRDR, the land area is still 3.5xRDR, which makes the land itself R* largest open world with or without the water.

As for what makes underwater interesting, it'll be the unique gameplay. If all there was to do in an underwater area twice the size of RDR was swimming, yes that would be boring as hell. But with diving equipment and underwater vehicles, we won't have to surface every 30 seconds and will be able to do things in the water faster than we ever could before. Not only will we enjoy extensive, uninterrupted exploration of abysses, caves, shipwrecks, kelp forests, and all the wildlife therein, but presumably activities like spearfishing, treasure diving, and, who knows, maybe drug smuggling operations using submersibles? I can't think of anything else, but as long as there's a speargun and you can lose your wanted level underwater, I'll keep coming back.

I´m ready to bet they will put a hard-to-find treasure on the ocean floor. Old sunken ship or something.

I remember the second part but don't remember the first part. That seems a bit excessive for ocean space.

Just because they felt something adds to the game, doesn't necessarily mean everyone will agree. I mean they added the ability to pick up bricks in the last one. I'm sure they wouldn't have done that if they didn't feel it added to the game, but i can't see what it was they thought it added. there are many different examples of them adding things to the games which i felt were a waste of time.

I'm not sure if the ocean floor will be one of those or not. But i'm skeptical, purely because in my personal experience, i have always found underwater gameplay to be very boring. Maybe there are some examples of it being done well, but i can't think of any, perhaps i just never played one.

I just hope the underwater visual effects look as good as Far Cry 3 and Just Cause 2 (hey, it looked nice).

I don't want GTA V to be the runt of the litter.
