I feel rockstar answered my prayers personally with Gta 5. I mean before Gta 5 was even announced i always used to discuss with other fans the possibilty of another gta in san andreas and i thought it was only a far fetched dream. But when it was announced i wanted to shed a tear. I feel rockstar couldnt have choosen a better place in the WORLD other than ,California!! I mean the money, weather, weed, women, ethnicities, and that vibe you can only find in the westcoast. But this is my opinion do you agree or do you feel there is a better place that rockstar could make a gta, if so what is the place and why do you feel this way.

GTA: Edinburgh. So we can have a R* North HQ replica to blow the sh*t out of for this wait.

But seriously, I'm happy we have Los Santos again for an hd makeover. I also hoped we would be revisiting LS again before my dream was confirmed back in Nov '11. Alot of people on here wanted Vice City, but a current age VC wouldn't be as atmospheric and special as our 80's recreactional vibe.

Bit disappointed we won't see a return of Las Venturas (or any second city for that matter), but here's hoping that will be out next destination on the new generation consoles.

For this GTA I don't think there's a better place than Los Santos again. I prefer the gritty brownstones and projects of New York but obviously it'd be stupid to do that again right after IV (although I wouldn't mind it personally tounge.gif ). There's not a better environment to flex their advancements in the series because like you said there's so much diversity in California in people, cultures, activities, etc.

Thats what got me excited the most about the first trailer, the first glimpse of the HD era of Los Santos! I still remember the very first time I saw the beach in santa monica, I was questioning myself whether it was Vice City or Los Santos then I saw the US Bank Tower and it put a massive smile on my face!

Haha same, when I saw the beach and the palms I thought 'Vice City' but as soon as that guy tees off in the golf course and the US Bank Tower is in the background I pretty much clapped my hands and said 'Yes, LS is back' haha

I agree 100% my friend. California has got it all. I was just as happy when R* announced GTA V would be taking place back in Los Santos. Absolutely love it!

There are a couple of viable alternatives in my opinion:

1.) Vice City in the modern day stretching into rural Florida and the Everglades. The height of summer. An excellent opportunity for Rockstar

to juxtapose the place that it was with the place that it has become: "Paradise Lost" as Time magazine once called it. Maybe Paradise

was regained but it's a more sanitized version of Paradise with an even seedier underbelly of deprivation and discrimination. The

American Dream ran wild in the '70s and '80s but what has become of it today?

2.) A remake of Detroit. Right in the midst of a particularly harsh winter.

For me this is by far the most interesting option but it is definitely for the next-gen. Have you seen the movie Four Brothers? Terrible film

but what a setting! Imagine that thick snow on the ground, blizzards, a frozen lake. A town absolutely ravaged by depression - the true

face of the American Dream torn at the seams.

What'd you think?

Jvmes makes some very good points, you actually make detroit sound like an interesting place lol, but i will say if gta had to be in any other place i would choose vice city, again.

It would be incredibly eerie driving through all the abandoned streets at night, as well as entering all the empty buildings and skyscrapers.

icon14.gificon14.gif Ditto. As soon as I saw the lifeguard station in the first scene and knew that it was almost certainly Los Santos, followed by the Pleasure Pier scene that nailed both the location and the realism, I was overcome with emotion and realized that there can still be happiness in the world. I knew then, just like you say, that Rockstar was compelled to come back and do Los Santos / San Andreas right, in HD, just like we wanted.

It was beautiful. Just so long ago, it feels like a dream, now. But the game is coming, cousin!

A remake of Detroit. Right in the midst of a particularly harsh winter.

A game with modern Detroit would seem pretty much like Fallout with snow. Game designers are getting pretty good at making apocalyptic worlds and war-torn urban areas these days, and Detroit qualifies seemingly better than any. Detroit decay reminds me of Robocop, one of my favorite movies.

I think the selection of Los Angeles is perfect. Perfect.

I do wonder whether Detroit has the diversity required not to bog the game down in bleakness but I think the winter element would save it and a little bit of darkness cannot hurt. I don't think we've experienced a truly dark and mature GTA (THIS DOES NOT MEAN HUMOURLESS) - IV doesn't come close. Detroit throws up so many possibilities in terms of story-telling because something different is at stake, possibly a political/power narrative. The music industry could be worked in quite dramatically too.

I'm liking the thread title's play on that classic 2Pac track. On of my favorite Pac tracks icon14.gif

I would preferred a brand new, modern-day Vice City (Miami) setting and surrounding areas (South Florida). I still feel this location has a lot to offer, even in the modern day. Everything great, glamorous and interesting about Miami is not just restricted to the 1980s. I don't know why some people on here keep making comments like this is really the case. Modern-day Miami, is still the ultimate playground of the rich and famous, it's the sunny capital of America and it still is a major center for drugs, gangs and organized crime.

Yeah I appreciate that VC brilliantly re-created that 1980s Miami vibe that probably will never be done in a video game like that again. But it don't mean that a modern-day Miami cannot be brilliantly done in it's on way.

The trouble with making a whole huge game in Florida is that there aren't any interesting hills or mountains. If Rockstar re-imagined the Appalachian Mountains being pulled down into a re-imagined Dixie, and basically the key geographic elements of about 6 states arre all condensed into and included in the map with Vice City at the bottom right, it could work.

RDR did a re-imagined Mexico, Texas, Great Plains, "city" (Blackwater), and the snow covered forest and mountains of northern or Appalachian USA, all in one map, so it's conceivable to do that much map compression.

Yeah you are right Florida is mostly low-lying land, but the lack of interesting hills and mountains can easily be countered with vast stretches of swamps, dense forests, rivers, lakes, tropical coastlines, offshore islands, coral reefs and lagoons - which are typical of South Florida's physical geography.

I think LA is a good choice and if they didn't do that then they could have done Miami but at this time it doesn't have the vibe so at this current time i think LA is a good choice. maybe Las Vegas or even a generic european city with some countryside.

Dick Justice

I would have preferred the Bay Area of California - San Francisco and Oakland - because LA is a bit of a hole.

Edit: Also, about Detroit. That would be damn awesome, except for one small thing: I don't think permanent snow would be a good idea. I can't speak too much for Detroit but Chicago basically shuts down in Winter, and there's not a whole lot going on, so I think maybe an early-Winter setting, where the snows are coming but it's still far from harsh. Too much snow would add to the setting but subtract from the gameplay.

I want a reimagined Vice City set in a present time. But at present I like R* planned ahead of reimagining Los Santos for now.

Honest Bill

LA is pretty much the perfect city for a GTA. but saing that, i think any of the big famous American cities would be perfect, As long as they have a large suburban area, along with some versatile surroundings it's all in the gameplay and story. Any of the big ones from Texas to Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago.

or just imagine one set in New Orleans, that place has such a distinct character that it would be very interesting.

Then there's Boston. They've haven't done much regarding Irish hoodlums, besides the Mcrearys who all sucked in my opinion. would be a great one to do.

Obviously there's Vegas and SF, but we already know they have potential.

I'd actually be happy if they did cities outside America too, although i know many disagree on that point.

I think it would be cool if they made a Gta in Africa!!! and i know alot of you people out there are like mercie_blink.gif but Africa has everything plus more a gamer could want including cities, malls, and other urban areas and i know that comes as a shock to all you people who think africa is place with naked people with bones in their nose. But i could imagine something like you start off as a white male that takes a plane to west africa for research when you meet a young african male that you try to help escape the war that his family is in Sierra Leone. More wars are going on in africa than any other place in the world, so you could never get bored with the shooting. You could find and hunt every animal you can imagine, there could be 100s of side missions that would never end. And for you racist there are a ton of white people in africa as well. Not to mention the random events you could see such as you venture into the jungles to see a tribe of cannibals that charge at you, or maybe an open sacrifice to the gods.
