I couldnt play the second game, it just wound me up, bad controls more than anything, which might've been because I went from GTA to sr2? and I thought GTA IV was disapointing (I write as Im DLing the episodes on steam to play again.. bogt was good iirc ) .

 

SR the third (and seemingly contrary to popular opinion) I liked, i never finished it but it certainly wasnt a bad game imo. This new one however, seems like a joke. from the trailer I see, its like they see the Iron man mod and based a game around it?!? that alone stopped me caring. Ill see how it goes.

The nice side missions that are available are taken away later in the game, such as taxi missions, drug dealing (drug dealing being especially unrealistic)

Bringing back the characters from the past is very cheap move. They know they lost fans after atrocity called SR: The Turd, so now they're trying to bring them back by doing cheap moves. Why does it matter you can meet with Dex, Troy or Lin when you know (if you're fan of the game) that they shouldn't be there.

 

Volition got one problem, they know how to make good game, but they are terrible at keeping quality of their products (Red Faction was great FPS, RF2 was mediocre, RF:G was great sandbox TPP, RF:A was good, but short and unispired linear TPP, Saints Row was great sandbox gangster game, SR2 was good, but worse than SR1, SR:TT was simply terrible, SR:IV doesn't look good either). They simply can't make game on their own, they just lurking around trying to steal other companies' ideas, which in their thinking will make great game. SR is ideal example of their way of thinking. They knew they can't compete with GTA IV in open fight, so they started depreciating their opponent in trailers of their game. It doesn't give them much success (still SR2 sold well enough for a medium-budget game), so they tried to take different approach in SR:TT and filled the game with dumb humor, boring and stupid characters, pissing at the same time at the fans of the previous parts (sorry, guys, we didn't take out R* with your support, please f*ck off, because now we're trying to win this war with support of 12 years old, who just love giant dildos, wrestlers, zombies and pimps with autotune). SR:TT didn't allow them to take out R* so now they are trying to win support of the people who liked inFamous, Prototype, Batman, Spiderman and similar sh*t. Do you seriously think it will give them medal, especially with GTA V coming out a month later? R* can take a dump on their fans' head and they can get away with it (hell, they will be probably loved for it), Volition can't.

let me some up the saints row series

 

saints row 1 - a good fun alternative to gta still felt like a watered down poor mans San Andreas though.

Saints row 2 - an improvement on the original imo really fun i personally really enjoyed it still felt like a goofy San andreas wannabe though.

 

Saints row the third - f*ckING SUCKED it felt like it was some kind of weird parody of the first two games its like they thought f*ck it we aint ever gonna compete with gta so lets f*ck it up and turn the series into a complete joke! zombies??????? giant Russian men???????????? it turned into a completely different game.

Probably not much but on the forum, one of the staff members hinted towards a reboot for SR5 and that it'd return to its roots.

 

Probably just a cheap way to calm everyone down though.

What's so unrealistic about the drug dealing in GTA IV?

The fact that even if you're a second late, the drug deal gets cancelled and the person waiting for the drugs just walks off, even if you just happened to pull up, no way that would happen in real life, people would be happy to wait a considerable amount of extra time if they really want their drugs.

 

The fact that you pick sh*t up in hidden dead car parks, where its clearly an ambush type scenario, the fact you can't decide where to meet, you're always given a set location.

 

The fact that you don't use your phone to get drugs sorted of the supplier, then use your phone to sell different quantities to various customers.

 

The fact you have no option on what drugs to buy/how much of it you buy or what price to sell and no variation in quality.

 

The fact that there is hardly any different scenarios just makes it sh*t, you can't even call it drug dealing on IV, just another drive here and possibly shoot at people activity, very poor excuse.

 

Drug dealers and customers should be all over the map, in alley ways, in cars, in houses/apartment blocks, you should be able to choose what drugs you deal in, at what price you buy it and at what price you sell it, and there should be various different ways of getting hold of it/selling it on.

 

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the activity shouldn't get taken away from you after you complete a certain amount of drug deals.

I won't believe it until I see it. For me, the damage is already done. It's obvious they've already established this completely retarded story arc (becoming celebrities and later president) with the Saints Row canon where it was somewhat believeable. How are they going to make it work now? They'll have to make it a prequel.

They could either have the story after SR2 "gone" so it never really happened, then start fresh, or they could do a prequel, OR it could be the events between the end of SR1 and the start of SR2.

 

Or one thing they could do is brush off SR4's story arc completely, keep the SR3 arc, find a way to keep Gat, and then have them live as "celebrities" for the first part of the game, then they get too soft, head to Stilwater and find it took over by 3 new gangs.

 

They should also take the Saints Row district back.

SR IV looks fully dead in the water in comparison with other open world title such as GTA V and Watch Dogs. It basks so much in their shadows that I haven't even bothered giving it any attention since the debut trailer.

I'm wondering, am I a GTA fanboy for bashing this game? Nah, if that were true then I'd also be bashing Watch Dogs calling it a "rip-off" and saying "GTA V" will be better. Instead, I think Watch Dogs looks original and promising and I welcome it as competition for GTA V. I'm not ripping on Saints Row IV because I'm biased towards GTA (well, maybe a little), I'm ripping on it because it actually does look like crap, especially compared to GTA V and Saints Row 2 I'm afraid to say. The series used to actually mean something, now it's become a childish gimmicky game with all sparkle and no soul. It's like the "Disaster Movie" of open-world games.

 

I want to ask everyone a serious question here. Is there really anything at all that Saints Row IV has going for it against GTA V? Is there honestly, other than the silly superpowers and whatnot? For me, everything that it has that GTA V doesn't is just a cheaply tacked-on gimmick that will only be fun for about a minute or so.

 

I hate to sound really snobby here. I'm not trying to stop people from buying this game, I'm just expressing my thoughts on it, because I really dislike the way it looks.

I bet Volition are sitting in their officer after watching the new GTA trailers, thinkin "the f*ck happened to our game"? Psh... They are releasing this game 5 weeks before V is released, talking bout how they arent competing with GTA... Every GTA to compete with Saints Row killed it.

I call it a smart move actually. Maybe there is a small bit of hope for this series after all. Hopefully they make it an alternate story arc from that of Saints Row 3/4 where the silly events of those games didn't happen.

Anyways we don't need SR anymore. SR1 and 2 were good because we didn't have much like it at the time. PS3s and 360s had essentially no decent "hood" games, but now that GTAV will have Franklin and the gangs, current-gen gang games is covered.

We've had loads of superpower games, most of which are probably better than SR4. We've already got inFamous, Prototype, hell even some F2P MMO games.

The only thing I would change about SR is the retarded amount of immature sex jokes. I'm glad that they changed the game. SR3 was way better than 2, and 2 was a metric f*ckton better than 1. But the giant dildo bat was neither funny, or clever.

 

If you're playing these games to be immersed in the 'Gangsta sh*t,' you've been doing it wrong for quite some time. The first game was just as ridiculous as the other two, they just hadn't figured out how to implement the balls-to-the-wall over-the-top stuff they they can now.

If you ask me, all the things that happened, and the direction the went was completely justified. At the core, the game is the same, there are just a ton of new things added. I can see where you guys are coming from, but I could never agree with you.

 

Most of the people who hate on SRTT for being too over the top and silly, were the same people who hated GTA IV because it was too serious. There is no pleasing everyone, and just because a few of your buddies think the game is crap, doesn't mean everyone does. Haters are far more vocal than the people who appreciate things. Its a flaw in our society, but that's just how it is.

That is true, though I don't see how it went from a game about gang wars and city conquering to a game about using superpowers to combat alien forces while president. The problem is that is just doesn't feel like Saints Row anymore imo, the whole game doesn't even know what it's trying to be anymore, just as "over-the-top" as possible.

 

I'm not disrespecting your opinion at all, I'm just saying what I personally think. I feel people are perfectly free to enjoy both games.

I actually enjoy Saints Row, and I look forward to SR4. SR isn't as good as GTA (and never will be), but it's still a very entertaining game. I hope SR4 is a bit like SR2, but more realistic. Driving on SR seriously needs to improve.

Yes, I have. It's quite disappointing. I'm just hoping that it's a bit better when actually playing it.
