[GTA|NFS|MP|OTHER] Widescreen Fixes Pack

I think I asked you before about a proper fix for this game. The WineD3D solution doesn't work well at all. The game runs between 29-60 FPS for me and it is basically unplayable since it's full of micro-stuttering (but in some parts of the game it stays locked at 30 FPS weirdly enough).

I have no idea how to do it.

I wanted to ask you about your widescreen fix for GTA1 and the dgVoodoo fix that enables you to play this game at higher frame rates. It seems that your fix is incompatible with that and the frame rate fix disables your fix. Is there something you can do about that? How do you play GTA1 at a decent frame rate?

I don't see how it can be incompatible. If there's ddraw.dll collision, then use some other name for asi loader(not sure which, maybe dsound will work).

Recently I found out that it's possible to "workaround" graphics corruption in Scarface using some specific version of wineD3D wrapper.

I made a plugin to avoid alt-tab crash caused by this wrapper, you can download whole thing here: https://www.sendspace.com/file/iqoixy

There are some rendering issues with trees, caused by the same wrapper I believe.

I'm gonna stream it on twitch right now: http://www.twitch.tv/thirteenag

It works but now I'm stuck in 16 bit. Upon trying to switch to 32 bit I get these two error messages:

Yes but I can avoid that error by increasing the VRAM in the dgVoodoo settings. However, upon switching to 32 bit the framerate goes back into the thirties. dgVoodoo's frame rate fix only works in 16 bit with your fix. Without your fix, it runs perfectly fine at 60 FPS in 32 bit (1024x768).

I'm going to mess around with the dgVoodoo settings some more and see if I can get it to run properly.

Same thing happens here... Scarface desperately needs some #SilentPatchIt action or at least something to fix the sh*tty performance.

Hey hey hey. How about GTA4?

Every time I get reminded of how atrocious IV is on PC I want to cry. I want to hate the game and never play it but GTA is my favorite franchise. Otherwise I would have taken a sh*t on it already.

I heard that you can fix frame rate issues by using some ENB settings but that doesn't sound believable to me. If anyone knows if such performance improving settings exist or any other sort of fix, I would be glad to hear about it. IV runs like absolute sh*t on my 980 Ti and i5 4460. I even got frame rates as low as 26. Think about that. 26 FPS on a f*cking 980 Ti. The only thing that's going to unf*ck this game is quantum CPUs.

If you happen to have a quad core cpu, get process lasso or whatever other relative tool and configure gta 4 to use cores 1, 2 and 3. It completely fixed stuttering for me. Now the game has only 187 bugs left.

Wait it runs good on 3 cores? How many cores has xbox 360? Didn't saints row 2 have similar problem with cores?

From wikipedia

"The Xbox 360 takes a new approach to hardware compared to its predecessor. The XCPU, named Xenon at Microsoft and Waternoose at IBM, is a custom triple-core 64-bit PowerPC-based design by IBM"

My wild guess is this CPU didn't compare at all to the standard desktop PC, but the number of cores might have some influence on the game itself

While I can get 10 FPS more on my C2D with HD 5770....

So the problem must be on your side.

oh, and even people I know with fx-6300 runs it pretty well. also, this

Stop spreading FUD and start to pinpoint the real problem, in another thread perhaps.

lol How is the problem on my side when I can run GTA V almost maxed out at a relatively stable 60 FPS? This port is clearly sh*t. Absolute sh*t. Tell me one config, a single f*cking config that can run this game at 60 FPS without a hitch.

I'll check that article out later as I am getting ready for work right now.

Can you make your SRS widescreen fix compatible with the Steam version or is there a cracked exe that works with it? I have a fix that allows me to run the game in 1080p but it's not perfect. The HUD is stretched and it might be upscaled from a lower resolution.

I installed NFS Most Wanted on PC today and I did a quick comparison with the 360 version and I can't really tell the difference. I mean there are some stronger visual effects on the 360 version and the detailed shadows appear in more areas it seems but playing at 60 FPS in 1080p on PC definitely wins.

I kinda regret buying Most Wanted and Carbon on Xbox now. I'll probably sell them soon.

Edit: The cursor in Most Wanted doesn't go all the way to the right. It's like it's stuck on a grid. At first I thought it was stuck on a 4:3 grid but it actually does go all the way to the left but not the right. Does anyone else have this problem?

Weird, Widescreen fix doesn't work for Silent ASI Loader or ModLoader either, I tried all EXEs (compact, hoodlum, Steam original) but other mods works fine. Horsesh*t.

In the PC port of these old NFS games the FOV is not scaled proportionally. This causes the game to look squished in different menus and too "tall" during gameplay. You can see this effect happen in real-time when using nitrous or speedbreaker, and it also affects cutscenes.

So to demonstrate how my solution to this is different from simply changing the FOV, observe how the screenshots appear identical in the main menu.

5rXZVMi.gif

But when you go into other parts of the game you can see what happens to the vertical FOV.
Also notice how it improves the rearview mirror's FOV.

yUl64f1.gif

The effect is more subtle in Carbon, but still worth fixing.
You can see how the game is squished in the menus, just like I mentioned above.

N0QdNOS.gif

You can also see how it fixes the reflections in NFSU2.

tY4l9rQ.gif

So what does this fix do? It changes the FOV scale so that the game always remains proportional. If AG uses this then all he has to do is readjust the vertical FOV in his widescreen fix.

Do you think it's worth the effort redoing it that way? I think the best way to increase FOV would be to find some camera related things and increase camera distance. Otherwise by changing this hor/ver scaling it's hard to maintain correct aspect ratio.

Yup, I highly recommend it. I've tried many ways to fix this, including changing the camera's FOV and position, but this was the only way that produced the same results as the console version and eliminated squishing/stretching when using nitrous/speedbreaker. Unless someone can come up with a better solution, this is as good as it gets IMO.

When using your widescreen fix for NFS Carbon, the vertical float value for 16:9 is 0.72. I have to increase this float value to 1.1725 to get everything back to the way it was before. Not sure how to calculate that, but hopefully that gives you an idea.

Keep in mind that the PC version of these games are stretched, even in default 4:3 resolutions. If you want to fix that too then you need to increase the horizontal FOV.

I believe NFSU1 & NFSU2 suffer from the same problem, so you could redo this for all four games if you want consistency. I'm more than happy to test this out and provide any information you need.

EDIT: Added information for NFSU2 in my other post
