Hmmm, it seems the SA version has the bug with the emergency services failing to show up. I started a fire and killed a bunch of people, yet neither the Firefighters nor the Paramedics showed up.

Just noticed a pretty nasty bug. It takes some steps to reproduce, so bear with me.

 

First of all, start the game on CJ's house. Exit it, walk towards Sweet's house and, while facing it, move the camera around with the Look Left/Right buttons so it's pointing to CJ's front instead of his back. Next, press the look up button so the camera approaches CJ while pointing towards the sky, and several objects on the map will start flashing like crazy. I tested it without the fix, and it didn't happen. Give it a try.

 

It was pure luck I was fooling around with the camera, but I don't doubt it may occur on other set of circumstances too. This is very likely a draw distance issue in the game itself (similar to when the camera points directly down and the ground turns completely grey or starts flashing on some areas in a vanilla copy of the game), so it may be problematic to fix.

 

If you can't reproduce it, I'll try it without other mods to see if it still happens.

 

If it helps, someone fixed the grey floor issue with a CLEO script that reduces draw distance to half when the camera points down, then restores it to full when it's back to the normal angle. I'm using the script myself, so I can confirm it works. It would be a problem for the people who can only use a draw distance less than full though.

I use this as well, and its a life-saver.

 

I actually think it was one of these two guys ^^ that developed the script.

Yes, i remember i made such a thing couple of years ago, but it's not fixes the problem, it just hides it. So, is that what you mean?

I found out it's should be fixable, and connected with LOD render. Problem is i don't know what exactly i should fix. In the video i disabled the LODs rendering, and normal objects stops disappearing. I did another research but didn't get any results.

Without lods map is empty, so i wouldn't call it playable.

Yeah, but the 4:3 screens were made without the fix, so the subtitles in the cutscenes are too wide WITH the fix on 16:9 resulutions, understand? biggrin.gif

Eif0hn means the cutscene letters. On a 16:9 resolution the letters are wider than on 4:3 or 5:4. He wants thinner letters in cutscenes. ^^

Well, if you think so, that's okay. ^^ But just look at a cutscene without your fix, at a 4:3 resolution. The letters aren't that wide, and I don't think that Rockstar didn't make them thinner on purpose.

BTW there are other things that are still stretched with your fix

That's on purpose, to keep compatibility with existing cleo mods, which uses text/texture draw opcodes.

P.S. (offtopic)Is there any widescreen fixes for Max Payne 1?

It does help. I don't get the grey floor when I look down anymore, but looking up still causes the issues. Maybe a missing condition for the upwards angle?

 

EDIT: Nevermind that, I'm getting the issue on any angle, so the fix wouldn't help at all. Even keeping the draw distance at half at all times doesn't help.

 

Come to think of it, I did not run into this issue at all in the previous versions. Maybe something else broke when you fixed the Emergency services?

Stretched image of MP forced me to play with 1024*768 in a windowed mode. Same thing with Neversoft's "GUN".

Shame, really. I'll see what i can do, but things are messy in Max Payne.
