Gotta check all screenshots on vehicles. The gas cap must return. It will add realism to the game..

And if gas caps ain't present then the "running out of fuel" theory id just bogus.

I'm with you on the detail; Gas caps should be included in car design, but I don't understand this notion that cars should explode when shot up. It just doesn't happen. I've shot the hell outta many different cars with many different calibers of guns and it just doesn't happen. It is possible to ignite the gas tank, but most gas tanks I shot never blew up. When I was younger, one of my close friends' dad owned a junk yard so we had acsess to vehicles that we could do whatever we wanted with because they were just going to be crushed.

A bunch of us used to get some of the vehicles running and have crash-up derby rallies every saturday & sunday. It was truly a great time to be alive. I had this big-a$$ station wagon once and destroyed everybody. I tried to use it again the next time and they all ganged up on me and rammed me over the hill sideways!! That was the only way they could beat Godzillawagon. But again, a dozen of us would be out there shooting our guns, target practicing and trying out new guns or whatnot, and we would shoot the hell out of a lot of vehicles. Most never ignited. It is possible to shoot through the front, or the hood of a vehicle and disable the engine. That should be in any GTA. I'd say 1/5 shot should catch fire or blow up.

Well, considering Mafia back in 2002 and San Andreas both had visible gas caps, it seems like a step backwards to not have any.

That said, shooting them should not make the car explode. If the cars have fuel that can run out (not saying they will) shooting the gas cap should make the gas tank leak and the car run out of gas. The only way to explode the car should be shooting at the engine a lot, and even that is a stretch.

I actually never noticed the lack of gas caps in GTAIV and GTAV screenshots & trailers until this thread popped up.

In my opinion, the realism of this next-gen genre possibly ironically prevented the inclusion of gas caps.

If you were to shoot a gas cap like the OP suggested (petrol leaking from gas tank), then, in a realistic GTA world, would the car possibly continue to leak to the point that it would stop? Would you then have to implement the feature of refuelling vehicles with fuel tanks and/or at Gas Stations?

Gas caps worked in San Andreas, because the game was not aimed at realism. This generation is, and as a result it's like there is a catch 22 with adding these small, simple aesthetic features.

Additionally, perhaps R* thought there is no need to add gas caps, because vehicles in GTA do not need refuelling?

I don't know about him, but yeah, instead of reading this, realistic steak is much better.

I've checked every single vehicle that we've been shown, and no gas tank (gas cap).

This pissed me off in IV and I guess V will be the same. Why do they choose to NOT include that?

I mean, sure it would be pretty fukin annoying when you are the driver and a few bullets to the rear quarter panel blows you up..but they don't have to make it blow up instantly. They can make it pour out gasoline, in flames..kinda like in IV. What do you guys think?

Have you checked the right side?

R* is sending a message to the people who want refueling. Vehicles in GTA don't need refueling, so there's no point for gas caps. They don't look nice on cars, so why add them if they have no use?

lol That hit the nail on the head.

Theres no such thing as fuel in GTA since cars never run out of gas. Thus having a fuel cap would mean that cars would eventually run out of gas.

To avoid this, Rockstar removed the fuel cap.. I'm sad now, after having read this topic, it is firmly confirmed that there will be no "fueling" options in GTA V.

EDIT.

I never noticed that GTA IV has no gas caps.

funny thing.

you say you checked every car.

where did you get the game?

as far as I know they could be located somewhere else in the car model.

also remember that almost all the first screenshots are either alpha or beta footage.

Man, you suck at reading. moto_whistle.gif

Could that be a gas cap (just behind the door)? It's only on one side of the car.

icon13.gif didn't realize the game was out.

Again, can you read the original post before saying that? The OP said he examined all of the cars, we've been shown.

It cannot get any clearer than that.

"Why is there no gas canister?! I should be able to shoot and fire come out. it not having that detracts from the realism!"

"That's not realistic as it wouldn't do that in reality"

"We'll this is a game, not reality, so it doesn't have to be realistic"

Is it me or are you defeating your own argument?

Also, why are people getting so hung up on SUCH A MINOR detail?

If its taken you this long to realise it, it can't be that big of an issue. I somehow have a hard time seeing anyone for the past god knows how many months sat there thinking "man I can't wait for GTA! It's going to be awesome!" To then only noticing a tiny thing months down the line and going "hold on one cotton-picking minute! This car doesn't have a gas canister! I better check the others...HOLY CRAP! None of them do! That's it, I can no longer suspend my disbelief, I'm just not going to be able to buy into this game at all now!"

Do people not realise how pedantic that is?

Well some cars do actually have visual gas caps. And how does anyone know that cars can't leak gasoline?

Also, in IV, if you shot a car near it rear wheel well, the "gas tank" would light up on fire and set fire to the rest of the car. So R* technically never took gas tanks out, they just hid them.

When you think about it, cars in GTA doesn't need fuel... So, no need of a gas tank xD

Maybe they need fuel, but they have unlimited fuel...

Hmm. Nice. GTA IV did have a gas cap for the Infernus.

I honestly think it as a gas cap, but ever since GTA IV, I don't see gas caps anymore from GTA SA point forward. I hope sure they add that gas tank but hopefully something they should follow on full realism wherein they never explode if you spray them with a hail of bullets.

I brought up this matter a long, long time ago. Since then I've learned to accept it. R* are innovative, but apparently not innovative to do what you said and make a shot to the gas canister result in flames which explode only after a little while, ultimately giving the player time to escape. Plus in real life, somehow I doubt that a car would explode instantaneously upon a single bullet fired.

Mythbusters tested that very myth, firing rounds into a gas tank in an attempt to make it explode or even go on fire and nothing happened. They even fired tracer rounds at a tank of gas (tracer rounds are very hot apparently) and it didn't do anything. But it's fun to make cars go boom in games so they should include it in GTA V.

It's not realistic though. Cars don't blow up when you shoot their gas tanks in real life, that's an action movie trope.

Please read carefully. I said they can make it realistic like having the gas tank pour out gasoline and flames like in IV.

Cars have gas caps in real life by the way, not just a "movie trope".

A car isn't going to start billowing flames if you shoot it in the gas tank either. Your "realism" is based off things you've seen in movies and videogames. It makes no sense.

Please let me shoot your car's gas tank and see if it will just have pointless bullet holes.

Or your dad's car if you don't have one. Either one works.

if you're so damn curious shoot your down damn car, you're bitching about a stupid little detail and rockstar has already said they don't focus on little details like that(not specifically) because they prefer to focus on more important features rather than that. basically they were asked about not having great looking trees and they said instead of good looking trees they focus more on better things.

No one noticed that cars from IV did have weak points? You can make a car catch fire by shooting the rear wheel wells on cars a few times. On big trucks it was more obvious as the weak points were the gas tanks.

But not including gas caps is quite an oversight. What about antennas and proper indicator lights? Quite a handful of IV cars even had no reverse lights.
