It was made only a day ago and its spread pretty far. What games even use it? I have a few newish EA and UBi games and they work offline (Battlefield 3, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, Driver..ect) EDIT: So it's just Sim City? Odd that they waited this long to put this type of DRM in. AZAZEL
EDIT: So it's just Sim City? Odd that they waited this long to put this type of DRM in. + all their future titles, most likely. Hopefully this gets some sort of message through their thick corporate skulls. But I doubt it.

ccrogers15
Known games with always on DRM: Diablo 3 Simcity Driver SF (Later copies and updates removed the drm) Additionally, EA stated that all future EA titles will have Micro transitions and will have a similar type of DRM as simcity. AceRay
As long as EA profits keep rising they aint going to give a sh*t about a petition like this. But if enough people boycott EA, maybe they could come crawling back. Too much power has put in the hands of the executives and not enough in the gamers, we're the ones paying for these games and EA are constantly sticking their hairy balls in our face and telling us to deal with it. Its time we stood up to this kind of shambles.

ccrogers15
Could one of you guys explain the benefits of removing the DRM? Look yourself. Simcity features single player and multiplayer. However, Simcity still requires to be online to launch, even if you play alone. This is only to prevent piracy, but its punishing everyone who bought it instead. Chunkyman
These petitions are more or less pointless. Just refuse to buy their games, even if you might be interested. After Dragon Age 2, I flat out refuse to buy any game made by EA or one of the companies they own (like Bioware).
sivispacem
I don't see, in principle, any issue with DRM. I object to how it is implemented, but there's nothing wrong with it in principle. GTAfan786
Could one of you guys explain the benefits of removing the DRM? How about listing the benefits of ADDING drm? There isn't any, right? They claim it is used for anti-piracy, it's another excuse for money grab. f*ck EA.

Potato Boggle
Pirates always end up cracking this sh*t sooner or later. They are just delaying the inevitable and in the end the paying customer gets the sh*t end of the stick
agent17
As long as EA profits keep rising they aint going to give a sh*t about a petition like this. Pirates simply won't buy the game, they aren't going to fork out extra money just because they can't download the torrent. However, making a single player game online-only drives away real consumers. The best way to get rid of piracy is to offer incentives, not punish the consumers.

IIRC EA has only said that micro-transactions will be in all future titles (but then corrected it to all future mobile titles). I haven't heard EA saying that always-on DRM will be in future titles, but it is a problem nonetheless. We've seen this issue before with the Diablo III launch (Error 37) and now we've seen it with SimCity. Simply put, a single player game should not need a constant connection to the internet. Ever heard of places with no internet connections? like your laptop while you travel? I have a 3G dongle, so that doesn't bother me. Anyway, there's a good reason why I said "in principle". I remember those days vividly... and every PC game was shipped in a cardboard box that was like twice the size of boxes today. and every one came with a large foldout cover that had extra screenshots and whatnot. such a waste of resources

And no, i'm not kidding: https://www.google.com/finance?q=NASDAQ:EA I think that's a bit misleading. It wasn't the DRM that effed up SimCity, it was the fact that the entire single player game worked as part of a larger online-based uber-game. AMD Ryzen 5900X (4.65GHz All-Core PBO2) | Gigabye X570S Pro | 32GB G-Skill Trident Z RGB 3600MHz CL16 EK-Quantum Reflection D5 | XSPC D5 PWM | TechN/Heatkiller Blocks | HardwareLabs GTS & GTX 360 Radiators Corsair AX750 | Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic XL | EVGA GeForce RTX2080 XC @2055MHz | Sabrant Rocket Plus 1TB Sabrant Rocket 2TB | Samsung 970 Evo 1TB | 2x ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Q Acoustics 2010i | Sabaj A4
OysterBarron
That's not exactly correct the new Simcity doesn't even have a single player aspect. the only thing it has close to it is private region but even in that case you can still invite people in to play with you! friendly luggage
The DRM most people hate the the kind that is in Diablo 3. If you want to play on your own, you must connect and play in a private match. There is no local play so it would be impossible to play while on the move even with a 3G dongle. The ping would be too high. It is sad that the PS3 and PS4 version will be superior due to the fact there is no auction house and you can play offline. agent17
>Game requires a constant connection to a server in order to play >Game doesn't let you connect to servers This is seriously a goddamn joke, anyone who is condoning this type of DRM must be actively trying to destroy the gaming market. Please, lets bring it down before it has a chance to begin.
Secura
EA need to realise that they cannot be allowed to treat their consumers like this, not only is always online DRM pointless and irritating but now you're removing features from the game (Cheetah Speed being a prime example) so you can keep the game running on your servers. EA might as well be encouraging people to pirate the game considering they get to pay nothing for it, play it when they want and have all of its features available to them without having them being tossed out in favour of keeping the game in its current state. Also, the stupid rumor that Xbox 3 or Xbox 720, will require a constant internet connection to play, well i dont think that will happen. If it does, the fallout over that will be worse then this. This really hurt EA. Stores have pulled the game, some stores are actually allowing opened copies to be refunded, and ea has stopped advertising the game. Who would of thought Simcity Societies would be a better game then this trash? I did not. Goes to show that what people thought was wrong. We all thought that if maxis returned it would get better. This is not the case.
