Any job in retail from stock worker to cashier to loss prevention.

Unfortunately though, expect minimum wage.

ARe you good with your hands?? You need to start getting experience with a field. If you arent going to pursue a GED than you need to have something to fall back on.

Off the top of my head:

  • Bartender
  • Waiter
  • Landscaper
  • Window washer

Best paying job around my parts that you could sign up and get started right away since you dropped right out of high school.

Construction is another one. Basically if you get no further education, you're going to be working for a living for the next 45 years.

Only thing that will pay decent is sh*t no one else wants to do. Garbage man, sanitation, sewage worker... Doing poured concrete isn't bad work. It's hard work but a lot of times it can pay well under the table if your just labor in a smaller company. Well drilling pays decent as well. You want to get into something that will work you up to a sonic rig if you want any kind of real career in it though. Again it's hard work.

I dropped out too. I got the GED though, joined the Navy as well. Going to go back to college in the spring. All the sh*t I just listed is a fraction of what I have done to keep money in my pocket before I wised up. Nobody wants a guy with no education. You'll never have a career and the only good paying job you will get is manual labor. It gets old man. Especially when you start to become an old man at 25. sh*t takes a toll on ya. I mean do as you will, I didn't want to hear it either... Hell, I still don't want to hear it. I hate school, waste a bunch of time learning useless crap that has no use for the field I am studying for... But that's just f*ckin tough. Still have to do it.

I don't think he's trying to guilt trip you.

unless you just get lucky like Bill Gates, you need some form of education to get anywhere in this world.

Btw thanks everyone for the suggestions, I dont care about offices or nice cars, I actually prefer Labor jobs.

Unfortunately, deciding if you are a loser isn't really up to you. If it were, the world would have no losers. And it has tons. Always raise your standards higher than you can achieve, it will make success come more easily for you.

People who drop out always use Bill Gates as an example. They tend to forget that he didn't drop out of high school or just any university. He dropped out of Harvard, meaning he was smart or savvy enough to get in in the first place.

Depends on where you live. If you can learn a trade and are responsible enough to be your own boss, that could work. One of the easiest trades to learn that doesn't require money up front is drywalling. You don't need insurance like plumbers and electricians do, just a few hand tools.

Places that have strong unions usually are your best bet. A friend of mine works on the railroads here in Chicago and makes around $24-$25, he's been there 6 years. As stated by Moonshield sanitation is a good choice. Here in Chicago they are in the same group as those who drive the snow plows and also the quick response trucks for highway break-downs. It's a well paid job that anybody can do. Working for a cable tv company might work also. They hire anybody but the pay isn't great, but better than working fast food.

Honestly, most places don't check to see if you actually graduate highschool.

I am not a retard or anything, Just school never worked for me

I've hired non-graduates a few times at my job, it's not a big deal to me. Some people will look down on it, but it just goes to show that they don't realize it's just a piece of paper that anybody can get just for showing up everyday.

Try and word it like you couldn't not complete the school curriculum. Dropped out just makes yourself sound bad and alot of people will pick up on that. As soon as you can find a job go for it, experience speaks volume's as you get older and can open up new avenues for you in terms of employment. It sounds to me like you've accepted the fact school wasn't for you so now you need to get out there and join the real world.

you're right of course.

but it's not entirely misguided as examples go.

the general point being that you don't need a diploma to be successful.

obviously Bill Gates was very intelligent regardless.

that fraction of people that make it without an education is extremely minute. i'm not saying you can't be that person, i'm saying it is astronomically difficult to be that person.

You're missing something, though.

More important than Harvard, was Gates' idea to change the world (literally change the world) by being a pioneer in technology.

Sizeway, I honestly suggest you get a GED (at least) to get a decent job. If you want to strike it rich in life, develop an amazing idea like Gates.

You've been warned by all of us.

Not unless you know folks, or have your GED the only labor jobs you will be doing will be for minimum wage or just slightly more. You need to snap into reality and understand if your going to be a grown up, better start thinking like one or you just might f*ck around and cry or worse kill yourself.

There is no reason... NO REASON to not have your GED. If I had a friend who dropped out and said "I don't need my GED", I would back-hand him/her. I dropped out, and didn't have my GED and was working minimum wage busting my ass, now I have my GED and make 16 bucks a hour and it's steadily rising every 6 months.

Get into the trades, a lot of people look down on it but they pay well and they can be fairly fulfilling. You'll still need to take the odd course here and there to get certified in certain things, but usually completion comes with some sort of bump in pay scale.

A lot of trade colleges do require some form of GED, but honestly you can learn just as much working from an experienced contractor than doing a formal apprenticeship. Don't get stuck being a deadbeat laborer, ask questions and learn some skills. You need a rudimentary understanding of math and physics to do carpentry or electrical work, but painting pays decently well to start and there's good money in it (especially doing real estate staging and commercial work).

f*ck I know welders that make more money than doctors, nothing wrong with working with your hands man, just invest in building your skill set.

Right, but being accepted into Harvard marks him out from all the other riff-raff. More important than grades is the interview. Top tier universities such as Harvard, Yale, Oxford, and Cambridge don't just look at grades, they look at the person. I've had many friends with all A* on their A-Levels apply to Cambridge and Oxford but only a select few got accepted. It's not surprising that universities such as these produce some of the more enterprising individuals in society.

EDIT: Of course attending a top-tier university doesn't guarantee success, it doesn't hurt your chances though. I have an uncle who is a tenured mathematics professor at Yale and he doesn't have the slightest business sense.

I understand that everything isn't for everyone, but this is, in all honestly, pretty pathetic. You could possibly find a job with no education, but its going to be very tough. You go to a certain job interview and they see that you don't even have a damn G.E.D, they are going to assume that you are lazy, uninspired, and a waste of time and a waste of an investment.

You willingly decided to drop out of school, so if you do land a job that requires no education, it'd be soon before you begin to bitch and moan about how you aren't making enough money and what not. The problem with a lot of people is that they tend to settle too much and then complain about a situation that they put themselves in. I really don't know of any jobs that you can work without an education, but maybe you can "work under the table", meaning that you do some jobs for an individual (cleaning, carpeting) who pays you straight cash directly after the job is done.

Prostitute yourself, its dirty work but its the best a young lad like you can do at the moment for a quick buck. Alternatively, if you're really pretty, become a stripper. Get into shape a little bit, consult the Fitness topic for help, then apply at your local skin joint. Maybe do some porn sometime down the track but its a dying industry since the cumming of the internet but you could still find some work if you live in California or something.

And getting paid cash might seem hunky dory at first. But god forbid you or your boss ever get audited and you find yourself owing back taxes out the ass.

Also contributing to a pension plan and retirement fund may seem pointless when you're 20, but you don't want to find yourself one day with a back injury, no savings and living off of disability. Investing all your resources into your physical health is a dangerous game (look at all the broke ex-NFL'ers these days), and one you will come to regret in time.

School isn't for everything, but if you're gonna go against the grain make sure you save on those pay cheques. Get a union gig if you can help it, and always keep the door open to getting an education. It's never too late.

That's the truth. You may think that the classes you take in school are useless, and to a certain extent it is. But what it shows your prospective employer is that you can see things through to the end. It just helps you get into the job. I require my employees all have at least a bachelors but it doesn't mean they're more intelligent than someone without. It just shows me that they are the sort of person who can see things through. Formal qualifications help get your foot in the door, thats it.

Why don't you want to get a GED? Worried you can't pass? I don't think it would be much of a problem.
