He played the gag 'straight' and some people fell for it by failing to see the sarcasm. and some people picked up on it initially and joined in as a sort of irony, which strengthened the joke.. Anything after that just wasn't funny.. I know it harkens back to an old joke, but after a certain point it just became 'bandwagoning' and it is clear that most of the people who 'joined' in with the joke failed to see the irony in it and didn't really get what was funny about the original. All that's going to happen here is you will get a bunch of people either agreeing with you in an extremely over the top and excruciatingly obvious manner, or people disagreeing and adding their own demands for realistic food items in exactly that same manner; Neither of which will be funny.
