Why can't the U.S. stay out of something for once? It's going to get us all killed. Well, if we survive the bombs, we will at least see the wild world of Fallout come to life. Or such is the Western perception since tournaments and such. I like your examples though as my feeling is that NK's best hope at anything approaching a victory in battle (not war) is to zerg rush south and see what they can do. Let's hope they collectively trip off the starting block and give it all away. Or better yet let's hope Kim Jong Un fires his senior staff, abdicates power and pushes for a united and less militarized Korean peninsula. NK won't do anything, why not? Because both South Korea and China are on US's side, they have nothing to gain and a lot to loose if a war was to break out. Hence China's reluctance, trouble on the borders is the last thing they need right now. The US doesn't necessarily have to deploy nuclear weaponry. They can use ICBs to incapacitate certain utility companies, plants, and other infrastructure to paralyze the country. The US will go for a strategic approach. Should it "ever" result in war that is. The US will have the upper hand. 1) NK is easily accessible by sea. - US's naval and air powers are superior by far and can strike mercilessly any moment. 2) Allies China (No real Allie but also not an adversary) and ZK stand alongside of America. - Aeroplanes with heavy equipment could land safely in these countries. And coordinate attacks from there. NK is basically trapped between those countries. Why would NK take this even further? They know they can't win.
