universetwisters
We've already got a thread about cities GTA should visit, but what about the places GTA shouldn't visit? I personally don't think we should get a GTA game set in a large suburban city or a college town. I don't know why, but it doesn't seem to "click" with me and GTA. Lock n' Stock
No doubt in my mind that more unpopulated and crime-free states in the US like Wyoming, Vermont, Montana and North/South Dakota would be poor choices for GTA games. Country wise, there is too many to list. Maybe New Zealand as it's very crime-free. Edited March 9, 2013 by Gst0395
Space Cowboy
Slovakia. GTA in my country would be really weird, well for me it would be interesting but Slovakia isn't good place for GTA game as it would be extremly uninteresting for others. H.I.M.
Rio de Janeiro doesn't seem that bad but I think they must remove Jesus's statue... Sumatra, Somalia, Egypt to name some more bad places for the game.
reform
Aye, Rio would be f*cking awesome, such a huge social divide and criminal activity both in street gang and organised gang form. Great and varied aesthetics... I'd love it. As for where wouldn't be good for GTA... Well I don't want to see another LC/New York-a-like, unless it is a broader state and not just a city. I don't fancy Bogota, Columbia, even though some folk seem to be for that idea. Beyond that, it's almost too easy to name unsuitable places. 99% of the planet is unsuitable for GTA, which is why topics about where would be good are a lot better! GTASAddict
I think the GTA series should be based in English speaking regions only; therefore, everywhere else should be ignored.
Branimir202
France- I've vacationed there twice and don't get me wrong it has some very cool cities and things to do Most cities aren't very dangerous and maybe this is just my feeling but it wouldn't have that GTA feeling. Not very much that could correlate into a GTA happens there. Also alot of US States like Rhode Island, The Dakotas, Maine, Nebraska, Etc.
The Pizza Delivery Guy
No doubt in my mind that less unpopulated and crime-free states in the US like Wyoming, Vermont, Montana and North/South Dakota would be poor choices for GTA games. I think it would be an interesting concept for another game. Not GTA though. I, however, have had dreams of GTA taking place in my hometown. It was so bad ass I nearly cried when I found out it was a dream. OT: I don't think it should take place in London, that's just my opinion. Shyabang Shyabang
On topic: Anywhere east Asia. Cool places, but we already have a couple of games for that. And East Asia lacks gun crime. Having a GTA game on East Asia wouldn't feel like East Asia. Gun crime would turn their society into a very different one. This includes other areas such as Europe (besides Moscow) and Canada. And it would feel wrong to start gun crime in these societies that are virgin to it (or almost virgin to it). These societies haven't faced a violent war in a long time either. Sgt. Foley
In my honest opinion, London. It doesn't sound like there will be that gritty feel. Unless they do the story right, then maybe it will be good.

Andreas
Grand Theft Auto is based on the popculture, according to Rockstar Games, so I would say that it wouldn't be a good idea if GTA would be ever based on a city or an area without a popculture. Next thing would be that I wouldn't like it if a GTA game is based on a country where English is not the most common language. Other than that, I am open to new things. Secura
In my honest opinion, London. It doesn't sound like there will be that gritty feel. Unless they do the story right, then maybe it will be good. London's perfect for a Grand Theft Auto setting, and that argument you made about the lack of grittiness in the game ? London was gritty long before Columbus ever set foot on American soil. To make London an even bigger candidate for a Grand Theft Auto game there's already a game in the series called Grand Theft Auto: London. I wouldn't be surprised if London turned out to be the next place that the Grand Theft Auto franchise chooses to go to as it has a lot of cultural similarities between itself and America as well as having its' own vibe if you get my drift. Then you've got the fact that Britain's got a number of amazing mob stories that could be told, Jesus Christ I'm only now starting to in-vision a Grand Theft Auto game set around the time of the Cray Twins. There's no doubt in my mind that London would be the ideal setting for a Grand Theft Auto game in almost all aspects, and there's simply no debating that. As for a place that Grand Theft Auto shouldn't go to I'd say anywhere around the Middle East, other than Istanbul there's no real city that anyone from the Western World would get or understand and I think that's the biggest difficulty that game developers are having nowadays and one of the primary reasons everyone was so jittery around the release of Sleeping Dogs. If a game's setting and the culture within it differ too drastically from what the Western audiences are used to then it can lead to drastic measures being taken to ensure the game's survival. True Crime: Hong Kong was originally canned for just that reason, Activision thought that it was doomed to fail because the gaming world, which is primarily driven by Western society and culture wouldn't be able to grasp the concept of an open world game set in modern day Japan. That's not even half of the story though as it's also the reason they slapped the True Crime logo onto it seeing as that series was already reasonably well known as an American based franchise. That basically means that they gave it a name that it wasn't even fit for because they feared for its' success if they were to market it as it stood. The reason why those games shouldn't and will probably never happen is because there's simply not a large enough demand for them and if they were made a majority of the gaming audience wouldn't understand the world around them causing them become confused, disorientated and bored. This is not something that you want gamers to feel when they're playing games and I have a feeling that Grand Theft Auto just wouldn't benefit in the slightest by going anywhere near that area of the world. Secura
how awesome would an all world gta be?! if it was relatively well detailed, like new york looks like new york Manchester looks like Manchester Seoul looks like Seoul then yes that would be awesome No, it wouldn't be awesome because then you'd have to have a story that stretched on ad infinitum due to the fact that the protagonist would have to travel to every single country on earth at one point or another. The gameplay part of it probably wouldn't be all that interesting either considering the fact that if you were to try and render a whole world of people buildings and places you'd need literally all the power you could get and that's way over what'd be affordable by any one member of the general public. Not to say that it wouldn't be cool to wander around that area but if you were to try and interact with the world it'd probably be as minimal as your interaction with the world is on Google Maps, able to observe very, very low res buildings but not really interact with them. Give it another fifteen to twenty years though and it's highly possible that we'll be seeing a Grand Theft Auto around about the size of the Earth.
