freedom
yea, I don't get this at all. I mean, do people actually see games in such a simplistic manner that these games are suitable replacements for each other? Watch Dogs looks absolutely nothing like GTA. To even consider Rockstar delayed GTAV because of Watch Dogs is utterly hysterical.
superhobo666
Nope GTA and Watchdogs are 2 separate games. we all know GTA always demolishes other open world games when it comes out (this is why taints row comes out between GTA launches, they'd fail horribly if launched at the same time) Also, Watchdogs is owned by EA, so we all know half the story is going to be withheld as day1 DLC, and most of the gameplay features will come out a month later as DLC. Oh, and a bunch of the abilities will be withheld as DLC and microtransactions as well. Oh, also. Watchdogs will be heavily riddled with EA's legit purchaser punishing DRM, making it near unenjoyable for the people who buy it.
Official General
Watch dogs is gonna be better because it's next Gen and has a fresh concept. It's still being developed for current gen and IMO it looks like the offspring of Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex if those two games made a love child. The concept really isn't that fresh. Thinking about it that puts it even further away from GTA V on the open world scale. Sleeping Dogs will probably have more in common with GTA V. Am I the only one who feels the only thing Watch Dogs shares is the open world? The more I see of it the more it seems like a modern Assassin's Creed with Deus Ex's hacking and focus on conspiracy, espionage and whatnot. Still doesn't give a "do whatever you want" feeling that ultimately I think will lose out to GTA V which is going to be more universal. @ Miami You are not the only one. While Watchdogs looks great, the general concept of the game does not strike me as being similar to GTA V or any GTA for that matter, the exception being that they are both open-world, free-roaming games. From what I can see, they are both two different games in a way. Rockstar will not even as so much be trickling piss in their pants, they have to worry about nada. I really don't see the point of this thread. The only competition the GTA series has ever had is from the Saints Row series, and that is if you call that competition. Case closed. In my opinion, the best thing GTA V has going for it is the environment. Watch Dogs is stuck in a very flat city. So, if I had to compare it to a GTA title, I think Watch Dogs will be most like GTA IV, in that they both explore a vast, greatly detailed, yet mostly flat city. Having said that, I have friends in Chicago and I'm excited to roam around in Watch Dogs and see what level of realism is there, but I am much, much more excited to see just how diverse and expansive GTA V's world will be. As IGN said in their review of GTA IV, the real star of the game is the City (i.e. the map). And for me, that's what will separate GTA V from Watch Dogs... provided that the gameplay from GTA IV has only been improved and not diminished. Watch_Dogs maybe a next gen game but it is also being developed for the current gen consoles, so there's no need to compete about whether the game looks overkill in graphics. gsbadreligion
Watch dogs is gonna be better because it's next Gen and has a fresh concept. I expect watch dogs to go the route of sleeping dogs a great storyline, exciting new gameplay but it falls short vastly in replayability(the thing gta has almost perfected). I don't see this game having anything to do after the story ends, im not a gta fanboy either im just being realistic even the good open world games fall in this area or at least not being able to compare to gta. I might end up getting the game eventually but right now gta v is what im really looking forward to. If you haven't already get mafia 2 collectors edition it contains all the dlc and it is worth it(haven't even touched the dlc yet but will tomorrow). great storyline, funny dialogue, classic mobsters, classic cars(including sports cars especially dlc which has a ferrari that can go like 170mph), music of the generation which make the game better, guns from the generation including machine guns, rifles, shotguns, pistols, grenades, molotov cocktails. BG_SimSim
You know, I remember when Sleeping Dogs was suppose to be the BIG GTA V killer. That turn out wonderful. HA. It had great graphics, good fighting but still a very crapy and short game.
ScottishHeist123
Arent there two threads like this that got locked? Anyways, the delay was for polishing. Wouldn't want glitches like in IV would we? Ahh, another guy who is believing everything a company says. And btw maybe you don't remember anymore or you were too young, but IV was delayed for the same reasons like V has been: for "polishing", but IV was everything else than polished with this f*ckload of bugs. 1. Yes, the game has been delayed for 4 months because of polishing. That is the truth. Did you not read Rockstar's irate public message on the 'conspiracy theories'? 2. GTAIV was NOT filled with a "f*ckload of bugs". it was anything but filled with glitches. Please name me all these bugs you are talking about? baguvix_wanrltw
I think it's a likely reason for the delay. I hope Rockstar did pee a little bit, I want the game to be as amazing as possible. Of course I will be in line at EB the night GTA V comes out, regardless of how it stacks up. Rockstar delayed GTAV release so they could add electronic surveillance and digital hacking of the infrastructure to GTAV Now Watch Dogs has nothing on GTAV ... If they also add the Adam Jensen trenchcoat I'll buy the f*ck outta that bitch.
countrymike84
Rockstar is probably as excited for Watch Dogs as their own game probably. They are avid gamers and not just a gaming company so Rockstar might even endorse Watch Dogs when WD is close to release. I feel like this is a friendly competition. GTA V will release first.. Consumers will buy GTA V and Ubisoft will probably endorse GTA V. Then WD drops and Rockstar endorses Watch Dogs. Both companies can be excited for each other's games. grandthefthoughto
i for one am not convinced by watchdogs yet, we have seen barely anything of the game and what we have seen are highly focused, (in my opinion) highly scripted videos (that may even very possibly be renders rather than gameplay proper). i think watchdogs has a long way to go yet (and a lot to reveal) before it is any threat to gtav, and even then i don't see it impacting gtav's sales one bit, gtav is releasing to an install base of 100's of millions of consoles, watchdogs is releasing to maybe 10 million by the end of the year. "oh no i won't bother buying gtav for my existing console, i'll wait to buy a £300 console and £40 game instead because it looks prettier!" ...yeah right. Watch Dogs is also being released on current gen consoles. However they have only shown 'gameplay' (I use that term loosely) of it running on a high end PC, so you can imagine how disappointed people are going to be when they see it running on 10 year old hardware. GTA V on the other hand has been seen being played by journalists on a PS3 & they were suitably impressed. Expect Watch Dogs current gen to look more like Assassin's Creed 3 than what we were shown. Honest Bill
The Watchdogs devs insist that the second video (the one where he stops the train) isn't scripted at all, and that it's dynamic emergent gameplay based on the payer choosing to follow that particular ped Of course it won't look anywhere near as good on current gen as it does in it's current advertisements, but it will probably still look pretty good. Still don't even see it as belonging to the same genre as GTA though.

Andreas
i actually forgot watchdogs is also slated for a current-gen release, let's wait to see some footage of it running on current-gen consoles and then see how many people think it's capable of usurping gtav's (soon to be awarded!) crown I don't understand one thing; why do the graphics of a game play such a big role when it comes to the quality of a title? You didn't say that but that is the way a bunch of gamers think. It is understandable if someone is disappointed that a new game looks worse than GTA IV, which still looks pretty good in my opinion, but when I think about the expectations that I often hear from friends or from members of this forum, then it's like a lot of people are doomed to be disappointed because their expectations are not realizeable on the hardware of the current generation consoles. Watch Dogs was shown on a High-End PC on E3 last year and this year on the Sony meeting where Sony announced the PlayStation 4. It's possible that the game will look as good or almost as good on the next-generations consoles but Ubisoft will have to tone down the graphics and even the mechanics to make it possible that it runs on X360 and PS3. The game will be probably good, regardless of what platform you are going to play it on, but I have a feeling that Ubisoft shows everything that makes Watch Dogs a good game so that we know everything from it before it's even released which would lead to disappointments.
