saintsrow
I feel that the game was delayed more than because of this whole "the game needs more polishing" stuff that R* are feeding folks. But no one knows the real reason other than R*, so people are just going to go along with it. I think it's perfectly true that the reason for the delay is for "polishing". But "polishing" entails a lot of things; it is a very vague, broad action when it comes to developing video games. So this doesn't necessarily just refer to fixing existing bugs or tweaking small features, although that probably does include a lot of it. The deadline in Spring they gave themselves didn't give them the development time they wanted, so they pushed the deadline to one that they felt did. What they are doing between the original release date and the final release date probably isn't all just one thing, or all for the same reason. It probably involved the feedback of multiple departments within R* North to move the date for the benefit of the workers. Given the way R* development works (most of the development happening close to the end of the development cycle, meaning huge crunch time for all employees a few months before release), the idea that R* might have originally overestimated the abilities of the employees within the amount of time they originally gave themselves sounds fairly plausible to me. In any project in any company where they measure progress, typically the project starts out looking good, and goes off the rails over time as participants' inflated ideas of their progress start to meet reality and things don't work. The actual progress becomes asymptotic to 100%. Doesn't matter what the reasons are -- bottom line is, it just ain't done yet.
ayyob
well, to me is too early to judge for watch dogs for only 2 gameplay and TBH they are awesome but still too early. i'll wait till i play both of them and then i'll judge.

Zombie games aren't used to open world games, Dead island was actually ok. The physics for driving were sh*t though, although they didn't focus on it. It is still a good game, but not even relevant. No, the thing I am getting at is Watch Dogs is a completely new IP, Dead Island was the same. You know very little about the Game, it has no solid stats behind it. The fact that Dead Island was a Zombie Game wasn't my point, I was saying it looked fantastic in the hand-picked footage that was released, but on launch it clearly wasn't....... The-San-Andreas-man
Arent there two threads like this that got locked? Anyways, the delay was for polishing. Wouldn't want glitches like in IV would we? Ahh, another guy who is believing everything a company says. And btw maybe you don't remember anymore or you were too young, but IV was delayed for the same reasons like V has been: for "polishing", but IV was everything else than polished with this f*ckload of bugs. Since when did 4 have any major bugs? Have I been blind or something? The only bug that I can remember is the swingset glitch. I literally don't remember any others. Petsevsky
I trust Rockstar my $60. They are finishing a great game that IMO will be the best of the entire series, Watch Dogs is good but not good enough.
VitoJoe
Why would Rockstar give a f*ck about 'Press X to start a hack mini-cutscene over the course of 20 hours: The Game'? I don't get it. Watch Dogs is an overhyped piece of trash. GTA V will have animals, pilotable passenger planes, fighter jets, helicopters, boats, motorbikes, dirt bikes, fully explorable ocean, mountains, countryside, etc. Will Watch Dogs have those? No.

K-E316
All these Watch Dogs nuthuggers are making me not want to get the game anymore. LotusRIP
Watch Dogs = GTAIV + futuristic bullsh*t. Another goddamn "Assassins Creed" one hit wonder. What is it with those sh*tty games? Its excellent to see that you have actually played Watch Dogs. To be fair, it's too early to say it'll be a good game as well. Take Dead Island for example with it's deceptively good trailer. GTA's are always good... there's no question about it. Just one look at the logo and you already know it's bound to be at least a good game - if not, an all time classic. They don't even need to give us a fancy trailer and people will still buy it. So no, I don't think R* are pissing themselves.
SeaFoam
The amount of idiotic R* fanboyism in here is just hilarious and pathetic. Why do you people tend to get butt hurt when a game even remotely similar to GTA is released and looks promising? "Bullsh*t, GTA iz da greatists in da wurld n R* arent afraid of anything hurr durr. I luvz R* N worship dem" Grow up folks. There are more than just GTA games on the market, stating the obvious. Now, I honestly do not believe that GTA V was delayed because of how superb Watch Dogs look. I feel that the game was delayed more than because of this whole "the game needs more polishing" stuff that R* are feeding folks. But no one knows the real reason other than R*, so people are just going to go along with it. I remember years ago when people were saying that 2 Days to Vegas, Eight Days and The Getaway 3 were all cancelled because the companies feared GTA IV. Sounds stupid as hell but that's how it is. Watch Dogs = GTAIV + futuristic bullsh*t. Another goddamn "Assassins Creed" one hit wonder. What is it with those sh*tty games? Its excellent to see that you have actually played Watch Dogs. I don't think Watch Dogs looks great at all. Does that make me a R* fanboy? For one, the Watch Dogs demo was running on a high-end PC as stated by one of the devs if I remember correctly, so it will look nothing like this on current gen consoles. I was fooled by the Far Cry 3 videos they had before the initial release (which looked great) and the game ran and looked like absolute sh*t on Xbox. Ubisoft does not have a good track record with me. The only two games I've ever taken back were both made by Ubisoft. The other being Assassin's Creed II. On the flip side, R* has already proved to me with what they can do with the Grand Theft Auto series. I already know how detailed their worlds are. I already know how much freedom their games offer. In my opinion, and with knowing that Ubisoft is behind this game, I'm not interested at this time. It doesn't make me a fanboy, it makes me someone who's tired of taking Ubisoft games back lol. And also, you're honestly comparing that silly statement some people made to the one R* made about delaying their game? C'mon man lol
IronZombie
If they were worried about Watch Dogs, wouldn't it make more sense to release GTAV in the spring when there's virtually no competition? Instead they pushed it back so that they're in direct competition? I doubt Watch Dogs is the issue. I think Rockstar just realized they're a bunch of time-wasting tools and they wouldn't meet their own deadline.. again. I have a severe lack of respect for a company that can't even keep its own promised deadlines. They've done this countless times.
SeaFoam
I have a severe lack of respect for a company that can't even keep its own promised deadlines. They've done this countless times. ...So then start expecting them to delay every title of theirs? I don't lose respect for a company who's working their asses off to make the game all it can be for us. You honestly think it felt good to them to have to delay it, especially with knowing how a lot of you would act? I'd rather endure the delay than be bitching about the game when it releases. But if the game runs like crap come September 17th, then I'll be bitching lol.
MilezDawg
I think it's a likely reason for the delay. I hope Rockstar did pee a little bit, I want the game to be as amazing as possible. Of course I will be in line at EB the night GTA V comes out, regardless of how it stacks up. So you're saying that you think Rockstar saw Watch Dogs, got scared and so decided to release GTA V closer to Watch Dogs' release date? No offense but that isn't logical at all. If they were scared wouldn't they avoid releasing their game relatively close to Watch Dogs? If you're looking for common sense & logic, you're on the wrong forum. This guy Common sense and logic are no where to be found on the GTA Forums.

Backfire6
From what I see right now. Watch Dogs is obviously by far a better game already. Especially already seeing and knowing the "in game" aspect and seeing what it looks like, the HUD, etc. And the action sequences. We know nothing about what GTAV looks like besides "scenes" lol which never count. I already prefer Watch Dogs over this. Until I see gameplay of V I will remain not happy. Ya I can imagine Rockstar raging over the epicness of Watch Dogs. And thinking "I wish we thought of that" Watch Dogs has So many features that GTA should have had years ago. It's remarkable.
