blowtorchrepair
Greetings. Last week I posted a discussion about a profanity filter for the game to allow adults to sort of camouflage the constant profanity in the game to make experiencing parts of GTA V a bit easier in the presence of people, young and old, who don't necessarily need to hear the constant profanity. I later then realized, by some kind posts of others, that a VOICE VOLUME control for the console versions of GTA V is a much better option for what I was originally imagining with the OP from last week. At the suggestion of another I emailed [email protected] the following Voice Volume for consoles suggestion, and then below this is Rockstar's response which I just received. My Email to R*: R*! An ability to lower the volume of voices on the console versions of GTA V would be appreciated. Now that I have a toddler there will be times where I'll want to play GTA V, just exploring the map and getting a general simulation experience from the digital world of Los Santos, and doing such nerdy, non-violent play in the presence of my child would be easier to manage if the voice volume could be lowered at will to cut out all of the comments of the playable character, LSPD, and pedestrian/NPCs. I am a professional digital mapper and I'm going to want to show GTA V's map off at the office. Lowering the voice volumes would allow the world of GTA V to still exist for a demo without fear of female coworkers or any other easy-to-offend persons hearing some of the raunchy humor that we all love, but which could also create uncomfortable social situations of all sorts. think about it. perhaps this voice volume feature could come as an upgrade in a DLC package. It would be very useful to the Adult GTA gamer population. Lots of adults will buy GTA V, so please think about giving us console players something as simple as a total voice volume control to make enjoying and even sharing some aspects of GTA V, particularly the map, a bit easier to manage. Thank you, 'name removed' ROCKSTAR'S RESPONSE: Hey 'name removed', Thanks for your suggestion and it’s great to hear you’re excited about GTAV. We’ll take your feedback on board and we hope you’ll check in on the Rockstar Newswire in the coming months as we reveal more of the game in the run-up to its September 17th release. Cheers, Rockstar Games I imagine that this is probably just a form letter, but I thought I'd post their response anyway because I have written to R* before and did not receive a response. peace. RedShotBR
General voice volume control is an good idea, not because I'm immature to play GTA, but because the people in my house often don't like to hear swearing every 5 seconds or so. So at least like this we wouldn't have to mute the game just because of the language, and yet enjoy the sound effects.

BlackNoise
Thanks for emailing them, I meant to do it last week and completely forgot. I hope they add it in, because it shouldn't be too much work. I get bored with ped dialogue pretty quickly so this would be an awesome addition IMO.
Linki
This is a completely sensible idea. Rockstar might actually consider this.

GR7
I still find it weird that you find the language offensive and not the fact that the game also features allot of violence and stealing, I know you said you'll be doing a non violent play through but how will you stop the NPCs from doing bad things around in the gameworld aswell? Didn't they mention in the GI article that they'll be random events like dead bodies in in cars around the desert and crazy stuff like that. I've said it before and I'll say it again it's best not to play GTA in the presence of your child full stop. I know that's not what you want to hear but your a father with responsibilities now you can't afford to be selfish.

Son, I can't help your poor reading skills and/or your inability to comprehend simple situations where the voice volume would be valuable, which I have clearly laid out in subsequent posts following my OP from last week where I "shot from the hip" and stated in a way that was not clear as to my intentions. The majority of the violence can be avoided by my choice as I play. duh... I'm sorry that you don't understand.
Woody112
Dickishness aside, I don't really understand how you expect to avoid the violence in the game. Unless you just plan on not doing missions, in which case you're not really playing through the game. Anyway, I'm all for an option for voice control. GTAfan786
Very good idea. It'll stop the kids from hearing the swear words and the mature people don't have to use it and can enjoy it at the same time. Rockstar would add this IMO.

He is talking about the language, which most children nowadays easily are influenced by them. By using the volume control, he can hide the language while in front of his kid and doesn't have to worrry about him/her listening to the bad words. Then he can obviously turn it on again if he is alone and so forth.

Rockstar would add this IMO. 10-4. and get this... you probably won't believe me, but EVEN SOME "MATURE" PEOPLE, after hearing the same profane comment tracks dozens and dozens of times, still may want to turn the voice volumes down, especially if they like to roam and explore the map after the story is completed and all cut scenes have been exhausted. It's along the same line of being sick and tired of hearing the in-game radio station music and commercials. You have a volume control to kill that shiat. lunch tyme... BUT THE BENZ
Well, you couldn't turn down JUST the voices...voices are bound to SFX so if you turned that down you might not hear the voices, but you'd also not hear the car engine and/or gun shots etc... So there's no such option in GTA to just turn off the voices....not yet...not that I know of
TheMarkofZollo
I will certainly agree with this idea (partly 'cos I was the one to mention it ) but also it does help in games with a voice or speech volume to keep that up and turn the other volumes down, thus making sure all dialogue in cut scenes etc are heard and understood. As I previously mentioned in the other thread I find subtitles far too distracting from fast paced action scenes and without the thread subject sometimes miss the idea of the objective (many times had to trawl through the brief to find what I was supposed to do). Cheers

I understand just fine I'm just giving you my opinion since I don't see R* using your idea. I say this because the game isn't supposed to be played in the presence of children or anyone that is easily offended so it just seems like a waste of time to implement. An even simpler way of putting my point across is it don't play a 18 rated games in front of little kids, thats like taking your little girl to a 18 rated action film and asking them to edit out the language while people are getting killed onscreen, and yes I know you said you will try to avoid the violence in the game but you can't honestly say you can avoid all the violence by choice, the NPCs will whatever they want and if the plan is to avoid NPCs in general then why would you need a volume control in the first place? TheMarkofZollo
Regardless of the OP's intentions surely it is a good idea. Many other games include such an option (have since found GTA 4 pc doesn't despite my thought) and it can be very useful as mentioned in my previous post. wallis
Wow. Are we in the same forum as last week? People actually reading the post before commenting. I also emailed r*, no reply as yet. I would also like to remove the swearing so my kids playing in the next room can't hear it. I use one earplug currently. And it's quite easy to walk or drive around without encountering violence. I don't recall any trouble as I hunted down all the flying rats.
