epicluca
So apparently due to poor sales Dead Space 4 was cancelled, and Dead Space 3 almost got cancelled too until Visceral were told that they had to move towards action instead of horror. So this is the end of the Dead Space series. R.I.P http://metro.co.uk/2013/03/05/ea-cancels-d...report-3527485/
Trund
No it wasn't cancelled, they just stopped the pre-production of the game. They were just planning the game, to see where it will be located and stuff. It's only rumours though, if it's right it just means that the game is going on hold. BUT, this doesn't surprise me. EA didn't care much anymore about DS3, just look at the PC Version: Just a cheap port to PC, no other graphics features, no nothing. Typical for this company. BullworthAcademy
Electronic Arts has responded to reports that Dead Space 4 has been cancelled, denying that there is any truth to them. Though EA's initial comment stated that the company does not discuss rumour or speculation, as the day wore on the publisher became more talkative. On Twitter, EA creative director Ian Milham said in reference to the original rumour: "Almost nothing in that article is true." Meanwhile, UI lead for Dead Space developer Visceral Games, Dino Ignacio, tweeted: "The reports of our death were greatly exaggerated. Please stand by." EA also issued a more official comment, telling Joystiq: "These rumours are patently false. While we have not released sales data for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and it continues to be an important IP to EA."
AceRay
I hope this series goes down, it was a disgrace to the survival-horror genre, although calling Dead Space 3 survival horror would be a joke in itself, considering how actionized this series has gotten. Good riddance.
CryptReaperDorian
While Dead Space 3 got great reviews, I hate how it lost its "horror" aspect. The amount of horror games is in quite a decline.
Simon_V
I'm a bit happy if this is true, because I don't want another third-person shooter action game. They should go back to the horror theme, not action theme.
VitoJoe
I hope this series goes down, it was a disgrace to the survival-horror genre. What the hell are you talking about? Dead Space (and to a lesser extent, DS2) are more true to the survival-horror genre than 90% of "horror" games this gen. Action is only the focus in the 3rd game. BullworthAcademy
What is everyone on about? Dead Space was always about action. Dead Space 3 adds even more horror and even more action! Our favorite enemy from Dead Space 1 (the Regenerator) returns multiple times in Dead Space 3! Dead Space 3 is one of the best ones. Dead Space 3 is still very horror packed. Human enemies don't take anything away at all. There are only like 3 human enemies.

The regenerator was also in DS2, that is no argument (I actually never liked the regenerator). I have finished DS1 & 2 on zealot, and because DS2 was at the end a bit to hard imo I played DS3 on hard, expecting similar difficulty as in DS2. But it was to easy, plenty of ammo and I could get through most of sections without dying (with most I mean like 90%). And I'm happy that they canceled 4, because 3 games of one series is enough, it doesn't have to become the next cod.
Johan
I thought I read an article yesterday saying this was false.

I was really talking about the last two games, the first game may have been terrible Survival Horror but at least it tried to be one instead of some action game. In what way is Dead Space 2 an action game? I don't get scared easily but some sections in that game (on Zealot, at least) were pretty terrifying. Every single encounter with the Stalkers for example.
jamieleng
The scariest thing about the Dead Space series is EA. They really give me the willies. Apparently, customers really liked the micro transactions in DS3. Give us the statistics on how many people (idiots) actually used that 'feature' then. Good riddance. Im a hardcore horror fan, even going as far as to open survivalhorrorlist.blogspot.com in Feb 2012. I personally found DS 1 and 2 to be scary in an odd way. The darkness, atmosphere and random explosions that happen when monsters smash out of the walls. Spooky. I did play the DS3 demo on PS3, and i was not impressed. The full game is 20x scarier than the demo. Not the point. The gameplay was a major turn off. It felt tank controlled. The controls were pretty bad. At least in the PS3 demo. I was frustrated the entire demo as monsters would not stop coming no matter what. So it was hard to play. Unlike the others which i felt were kinda slower paced. Anyways, im not getting it for 3 reasons, and its my final decision: 1. Its EA 2. Microtransitions 3. Controls are terrible.
BullworthAcademy
The controls were like Dead Space 2? But I agree about the necromorph bit, the drill bit was very annoying.

Dead Space has always followed the Doom 3 style of horror, where you open a cupboard and a scary monster would jump out and make a scary face. It was kind of predictable. Its also way too in your face in terms of horror, there was no subtly and that killed some suspense, also those stupid turret parts which were just kind of dumb. Another big atmosphere-killer is that Isaac is a tank who can take so much damage from the enemies and that really kills any suspense the game might have. To each their own though. However, Dead Space 3 was more like a Lost Planet game than anything else. I actually look back much kinder to the first now after seeing that.
