dissapointed the game won't be next gen?

seeing how next gen actually plays out i am mindly dissapointed gta v won't be next gen

 

the latest watch dogs video looks amazing and that game is BOTH for pcs AND for consoles

 

whats great about next gen pretty much a golden era for us pc gamers is that the ps4 and the future xbox whatever it's called is closer to a pc then current generation consoles

 

games won't be as seperated as they used to be

 

meaning the word port might not actually be a relevant word

 

a next gen console is basically a pc compared to current gen consoles which are really seperated from pcs

 

next gen is a golden era for both pc gamers and console gamers so i am mindly dissapointed gta v won't be that

 

theres so much that could be done if gta v was next gen a pc release would obviously be alot simpler to do

 

once i thought about this i got abit sad

 

the new assassins creed game is next gen and they say it will be HUGE

 

this is not a next gen thread per say it is a poll about it but if this dosn't fit as it's own thread then lock it

It wouldn't be a that big of a deal if there was a proper PC Version for release. But it's R*, they will always have a great excuse why the game isn't next-gen, why the graphics aren't as amazing as with other games, why this and that is in the game and why fun things from older games have been removed.

 

So in the end, I'm not disappointed at all. I only fear that it will take another 5 years now until the next GTA, and until then other developers might surpass R* in terms of graphics and gameplay, as they will have more experience with the system.

 

BTW, you need to work on your posting style, it was a real pain to read your post with all the spaces in between.

I think it will be next gen, actually. Think about it, it's releasing like right at the next gen release. I think they will add a next gen port or something.

Come on mate, no way any other developer will ever surpass R* in the open-world genre. Know why?

If I recall, it took a long time for the previous generation console market to grow. It's kind of chicken and egg situation, of course, because content drives console sales and console installed base drives the development of bigger games.

 

Realistically, if the next gen console market is like the previous generation, it's going to be a long slow uptake to reach a big enough installed console base to justify a game with the development budget of GTAV. And just ot get started, the next gen platforms are going to need some super launch games to jump-start sales.

 

Now if Rockstar does take some more time and really jacks up the GTAV game graphics and perhaps density of cars, pedestrians, etc, for a mind-blowing super-port of GTAV to next-gen, that could help sell both the consoles and the game, so Rockstar could be part of the effort to accelerate next gen sales while hopefully making some money on those sales. I for one could be convinced to get a next gen console early, if GTAV looked and played substantially better on them.

 

My last thought in this area is to wonder about the way the next gen consoles are going to be locked down, since as you say, they will be using designs and components more like PCs. It will be interesting to see if and how they get hacked.

I said this many times and I even used many facts to corroborate my claims, GTA PC is most likely being developed and was created on PC since the beginning (at least since 2010), Rockstar knows they messed up with PC with their lousy port, they tried a different approach with MAX PAYNE and was quite successful, so I believe that was a test and they used that knowledge to do things right this time. Also Rockstar thinks about the future, if for some reason at any time (if not sooner) they decide to port GTA for Next Gen, it's easier for them to do it from a game like Max Payne 3 was, then from a game like GTAV is now for current Gen consoles.

 

In other words, Rockstar didn't said a single word about this yet, and I doubt they'll do it prior to the consoles release, once that cow is milked they will announce the rest, and I believe there will be a "Next Gen" GTAV, in other words a PC version created from the ground and that will be ported for future consoles.

 

There were many threads started on the Internet claiming that GTAV would be a NEXT GEN title when the first screenshots surfaced, and was easy to understand why, most of the screenshots we've seen despite of being 720p, don't resemble what was shown in the game trailers (and those aren't compressed like many people said, in fact would be stupid to compress the image quality of a product they want to promote), that looked like something a lot different and if it wasn't edited it had to show something else.

 

And now that I think of the "all is up for consideration" when they were asked about Next Gen and PC, that could actually be a tip, many developers been working on titles in the last years even when no one even knew about the Dev kits, Rockstar is very close to either SONY or MS, they celebrated millionaire contracts with them, so there is more then the eye can actually see.

 

But it's just my thought on this, anything can happen ... but it's a matter of logic.

OP. I guess I am slightly disappointed.. but not majorly.

 

I never expected GTA V to take so long to release, so I never expected it to come to Ps4 or Xbox860, so really, None of my expectations have been let down.

 

Having seen Sony's next gen, It would've been neat if GTA V made it there.. However, We can not know for certain if it will or will not come on next gen. There is a very small probability that it could(eventually) but I wouldn't hold my breath.

In fact you're wrong. Read a few articles published by developers, the last one I remember was UBISOFT and how they say it's easier to make games now with this gen then it was with the current gen. Now they code it on a PC and port with almost the same settings as a High End PC, which is a lot easier then it was with other consoles, specially PS3. Even not knowing the technical problems, one is easy to spot... create something beautiful and then shrink it the max possible to feat on each one of them.

If coding is as different as you make it out to be, then you're suggesting Rockstar should have started from scratch again when they received the PS4/Xbox720 devkits from Sony and Microsoft? That is ridiculous, they've been working on this game for a long time. I'm sure it's much easier to code on the new machines, and that's a great thing for future titles, but V has been in development since well before the next gen hardware was even on the horizon.

 

San Andreas was the microcosm of all the intricacies Rockstar learnt about last gen hardware; GTA V will be the same thing this gen. Coding may be easier on new machines, but there is a level of discomfort - trial and error so to speak - people face when working with new hardware. You say it's similar to coding for a PC? That's cool, Rockstar North don't make PC games, they're developers that are console focused. I guarantee it will take time for them to get a footing on the new systems.

I personally couldn't care less. Either way it will be great. So I'd prefer current gen
