Why did you make two topics about this?

Anywho, I don't think on a technical level, that it is possible to make it so cars don't ever despawn. The CPU on the console would be so hogged, it will literally make the game a slideshow. Even a top end system can't really do that.

Now, player-owned cars never despawning, that's another thing...

It doesn't have to store the car there physically, just remember where to spawn it when you get close enough. But yeah, it would be a nice feature on 5. Never having to worry about what car you take to which mission.

Yeah, having all cars; on the streets and all, in the game world not disappear or "despawn" after a short while just wouldn't be possible with the current generation hardware/consoles.

Having it so that cars that the players/protagonists own never disappear; then that is certainly possible. The way it could work is by parking a vehicle that you want to keep into a designated parking space/garage and it would always be available to the player at save points until the vehicle is destroyed - in a similar fashion to how the hitching posts work in Red Dead Redemption. If you are able to purchase vehicles from various vendors such as car showrooms, then the purchased vehicle would always automatically replace the current saved vehicle.

IMO I think this idea could work in GTA V as it would all but eliminate any issues with regard to the player loosing their car at any point during gameplay.

I think they should make the game keep the last few vehicles in memory that the player was in. The game can handle it. IV could when you used mods to make your car stay.

III, VC, LCS, and VCS were good about it. You could park your car, and fly around in a heli or drive around in a boat then come back and its still there, but SA and IV it would disappear.

As for other vehicles, it should get a certain distance away. I always hate it when some ass hole knocks me off my bike and I want to kill them, and they are no where to be seen. This was a big issue on the III era GTA's (not as bad on SA), but on IV it isn't as bad. I hope I don't have this issue on V.

I like the idea, but surely it would use up a hefty bit of RAM to make it possible.

I suppose this could work, If of course you LOVE watching your machine set fire to itself attempting to run it.

That will give me an excuse to use my fire extinguisher. biggrin.gif

I would say just keep the last three vehicles the player has been. So that way you could drive to a mission, drive any mission-required vehicles, and then drive a vehicle back to your original vehicle. With this you could also keep a car when switching between protags.

This. icon14.gif It irks me that all my nice vehicles collect dust in the garages/parking spots because taking them on a mission pretty much guarantees losing them because I have to drive someone else's car, or the game simply despawns the car when I start the mission.

This is pretty much how it is now, Except instead of 3, it's 2.

Technically I think that isn't possible, in fact not even for Next Gen ... but if that happened, it would be cool to keep following a car and see where he was going, eventually it would return to the same place again.

Toll trucks would be cool they take the cars away. Only way I see this being possible. Though I guess coding that in would be even more work.

I had to null my vote, because current hardware limitations would make this impossible without sacrificing something else.

I'd rather my vehicles only save if I put them in storage, or while I'm in a mission where I can't bring my vehicle come, or don't get to use it for the mission.

I'm fine with vehicles despawning though, since the odd time I find a rare one worth keeping, I stick it in a parking spot and save.

The only way this would be possible would be for high end gaming rigs, and even then, having multiple permanent cars everywhere would be hard on the system, which was a flaw with the way car saving was in GTA IV. I'd like to see a garage system like in San Andreas, but more free in reference to the space. (it sucked putting a motorbike into your garage with a car, and having space for more, but those extras not being saved due to the vehicle number limit, instead of physical space limit.

K^2 explained this in a very detailed post once.

It was something like; in GTA if you are driving a car you will see more of that car because the console/PC memory only needs to remember that once model and load it multiple times, the game can only load so many different vehicle models before the memory limitation forces it to start loading the same models.

So if the game remembers all the cars you have driven in the last 5 hours and you drove 6 different cars, well the only cars you will see driving around are those 6 cars you drove because there simply isn't enough memory to support more, even PC has this problem, it can't really be helped at all.

It can be improved to a great extent on the PC. But the thing is R* are lazy. It'd be a mind blowing thing if they make a port that runs well, let alone improvements like this...

The cars would be loaded into the video ram, so it depends on the hardware of the console. Actually check hardware specs before you suggest things like this.

They can't make car models take up less memory unless they decrease the resolutions/texture quality, I don't think it has much to do with quality of ports.

It depends on what you mean by this in all honesty, I got the following from your meaningfully useless post.. ;

Cars a player has been in recently not despawning

This would be absolutely possible even on current-gen consoles, as long as there is a cap. I think a nice cap would be 5, so, like others have stated, when you are required to use other cars you could leave your car at the mission marker knowing you could come back at a later date to pick it up. This is the sort of realism I have always missed since the III-Era, in those games you could leave your car in a parking lot, drive around the city and return to find it in the same place you left it.

This would be possible on current-gen whilst not taking much, if any of the puny resources available on the current machines.

No cars at all despawn in the whole world

This would be virtually impossible, even on high-end PC's. You have to remember everything in the game is known as an entity, each entity will have unique properties such as damage stats and all of that will be stored temporarily within the memory and taken when needed. If all of the cars within the whole game never despawned you would be looking at a pretty hefty game that probably wouldn't even load.

Games like GTA have tiles, whilst a player is moving around there would be like 6 tiles around them loaded, those tiles would have their respective graphics loaded ready for when it was required to have peds and cars on the streets. If you have ever gone quick enough on GTA IV you will see the tiles loading, normally you will see low-res textures which are still trying to keep up with the game by loading their high-res textures.

Already, that System is very taxing to games hence the need for a more meatier machine, hello next-gen. But, you will never see cars in the world that never despawn, so basically, no, you will not see a Green Futo with a number plate B1G GUNZ driving around Los Santos and then see it 25 minutes later on the other side of the map, unless you followed it... however I am pretty sure cars just drive around in circles anyway unless being chased by the police.

No it isn't possible really, I suggest you read my post a couple points up.
