Real Life Traffic

Well if you lived in Los Angeles you would know how heavy the traffic is at rush hour. Do you want this in the game?

I wish Rush Hour would happen (16:00-18:00) or so but the current density for vehicles won't be that high for the consoles cause it will probably lag alot.

Maybe an increased density of vehicles, but not to the point that there are large traffic jams. I don't like being caught in traffic jams in real life, there's no need to emulate the frustration in a game.

But if there was traffic jams with increased car density, surely there will be frame rate issues?

I think that traffic would be cool

I think that people should be in the game too, and guns.

I'm not sure. I'm all for realism, but being caught in a jam doesn't sound like much fun. Although with the way oversized lanes in all gta games it might not be a problem. You could just drive down the middle between two lanes of traffic. But I don't think consoles can handle a realistic traffic volume.

Personally, I'd like to have heavy but flowing traffic and realistic lane width.

It'll be realistic, but it won't be fun and I'll just get pissed off in the end.

The Pizza Delivery Guy

Under certain circumstances this could be a really neat idea. It would add to the realism and all... but what I'd like to see is a mission incorporated out of it. Perhaps near the beginning of the game while you tour the town the protagonists get stuck in traffic. All three at once. That might be how they meet.

I'll probably just crash my way through anyways. Maybe bring a tank for some crushing action.

4 has varying traffic and what you might call a rush hour. This is a little off topic but one thing I hope they fix in 5 is cars randomly spawning in front of you when you look behind while driving. Gets me so much and I'm afraid just to have a look behind me if I like my car.

Ditto on that.

Since Rockstar says they are going to improve the general scheduling of NPCs doing their daily routines (something that the new SimCity is also claiming, I think colgate.gif ), perhaps there will be some more realistic periodicity in rush hour.

I wouldn't mind an occasional rush hour problem, as long as I can usually blast down the freeway shoulder or between lanes or down the sidewalk mowing down peds. That would be a reasonable challenge and a nod to LA traffic. Even in reality the rush hour jams are only about maybe 5 hours out of the 24 hour day, plus sometimes a wreck causes a random backup.

To those of you saying "Oh this will be no fun how lame would it be to be stuck in a jam during a bowling date etc..."

The rules don't apply in a game, man! You can weave through that sh*t. Hell if you really couldn't take it anymore you could get yourself out of a traffic jam quick style in real life, bro!

Duuuuuuuuuude, that's what GTA is for, man... to rebel and say

Skru this traffic jam, I'm going home

I voted: Yes bro, all the way.

Ah, a brother of random mayhem. Don't worry, we're not alone.

But there are some people who will literally call it an atrocity if you ignore the game's story in favor of random mayhem.

So, you know, watch out for them. Most likely they have a very bad understanding of what sandbox games were invented to do in the first place.

In GTA 4 and other past GTAs, when I have been in a chase with a few collisions and I finally get into a crowd of cars and hit too many of them that my car catches fire, I get out and run on foot. So it's kind of like being in a traffic jam in that case.

Getting stuck in an occasional traffic jam and having to get out and run (and then go jack a car on a nearby less crowded street) would be about the same thing as we are already doing sometimes.

Yeah sounds good it will make the game realistic and fun too.

Realistic- you know it, traffic is real

Fun- we could plant a bomb in the middle and have a chain explosion. devil.gif

I guess it's realistic, but dealing with this in real life is f*cking irritating. I can't see how this could be fun? dontgetit.gif

Do you guys know what rush hour traffic is like in LA?

I want this...

Never this(unless I cause it)...

Yes and no.

GTA IV lacked realism in that part because they don't have anything that resembles traffic jams, we should see areas of high density of cars in areas where and when it should be, like Star Junction (Times Square) in GTA IV and in GTA V highways and such during rush hour (never been there, not sure where there will be traffic jams)

But, seeing this is GTA V, how ANNOYING would it be to get stuck in traffic during a high speed chase??! Maybe they should do it artistically, like leave enough spaces for you to weave in and out of traffic, emergency lanes...

Now this I would love. This would actually make traffic and driving fun. Is it something R* could program?

I would love there to be heavy traffic at certain times of day on certain roads and highways.

The problem is that the processing power for this would be much greater than the current gens could provide. However I think it would be awesome if they throttled this ability up with the PC versionor next en version if it goes next gen.

Not if they actually did it the way it is. Getting to Los Santos in the morning/Leaving LS in the evening would be a bitch. Not to mention traffic on the 110 and 10 on Fri and Sat...

It'd be cool the first couple times, but when all you want to do is hit the beach bars or a club in Hollywood...nah, traffic shouldn't get get in the way of that cool.gif

Saints Row puts mayhem in front of storyline and characters and look how that's turned out. At the end of the day, games are becoming more like movies in that they have professional scripts and detailed characters and most people seem to be happy with this.

I think it would be great if it was only done on certain roads. You could also use the traffic to your advantage.

Lets say the cops are chasing you and you cant lose them. You get on a motorcycle and head to the highway during rush hour. You squeeze by the side of traffic and look back to see all the cruisers struggling to make there way through.

For your information, I happen to enjoy the hell out of saints row warts and all.

Yes it's silly, crass, immature, and really stupid. That's why I like it. The third let me be a tron dragon, tank skydive, and be in my own mars movie. The second let me recreate the crazy 88 scene from kill bill and use fireworks as weapons to blow up pursuing gang members.

It knows what it wants to be. Not a deep and introspective story, but an insane thrill ride pack to the brim with over the top goofy action. It knows it's a game and loves and exploits that fact to let me do crazy sh*t I hadn't even thought of. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it crap.

Also, which movies? That's an important question, because the fifth element, die hard, 2 fast 2 furious, and plenty of other things that would be considered shlock fit into the movie category.

This man speaks the truth.

I do want different traffic densities. Like at night I want it to be quite empty. Especially in the countryside. I know LA is probably busy all around the clock but we shouldn't see lots of traffic pissing down the road at 4AM in the countryside.
