The black screen will appear and 10 seconds later my desktop will just appear again. PLEASE HELP, MUCH LOVE TO ANYONE WHO CAN SORT MY PROBLEM. Miro
Where do you have the game from? Are you using any mods? Do you play with the original DVD in your Drive? Try installing the Games for Windows Live Update, .NET Framework 3.5 & the GTA IV Patch 1.0.7.0. In case nothing works, try to re-install the game. mire
Im not playing with the original dvd in my drive currently, no. I haven't even been able to get into the game once, so no mods. I've tried both a torrent GTA IV and retail, but both seem to pop up with the black screen or a black CMD box, then sends me straight back to my desktop. I don't know if its files im missing or if I've set it up wrong..? I'm pretty awful with technology tbh ;p And I have those downloaded. No difference I'm afraid. Miro
Hmm, at this moment, are you trying to play the original or the pirated version? Because normal solutions don't usually work on pirated copies. In case you haven't installed the updates I linked you to on the retail version, please get rid of the pirated one, and try on that one. In case it still doesn't work, even on the original version, maybe try using xliveless? Dead (Retired)
mire
Pirated seems to be getting closer to success at the moment, I can't seem to do much in my originals files, I've already tried xliveless in both & its fixed the "GTA IV has stopped working" bug on my pirate copy. I had indeed downloaded the files you gave me links to, they didn't do much either. So confused right now, I've tried everything lol. I guess that was a waste of £14.00? ;s Is there any last possible solutions/fixes I could try, for either the pirate and/or the original?
Miro
I suggest you get rid of the pirated version and try to fix it on the legit copy. Good thing it fixed that, but you should really try to get it working on the retail copy. Besides, you said that xliveless fixed that "GTA IV Stopped Working" bug, so what problem do you have now? mire
It's just a blackscreen for about 6 seconds, and then closes without any warning. Straight back to my desktop screen.
Miro
Are you now trying to run the pirated or the original version? Because the pirated version is highly unlikely to run even if you fixed that "GTA IV has stopped working" error. Either way, try running the game in Windows SP3 / Windows 98 compatibility mode. What are your specs? Dead (Retired)

Th3MaN1
What video card do you have? You have a pretty good PC but if you video card is integrated (Intel) then that's the problem.
