Better Pedestrian/Enemy Injuries

Remember in Grand Theft Auto IV when you shot someone in the chest with a Desert Eagle and they just ran off like nothing happened? Or when you shot some guy in the leg a few times and the limped off holding their stomach? The point is, I hope that we see some improvements in those fields and more in Grand Theft Auto V. Perhaps a chest shot with a strong weapon, such a a Deagle or a shotgun, could act like a headshot? Or maybe actually have people clutching their area of injury depending on where they got shot or hit. What do you guys think, where would you like to see improvements relating to this?

Play Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3.

Seriously, most topics on here concerning a lot of things were already improved on in RDR and MP3, and there will most definitely be more improvements and features in GTA V.

Paper Mario

Yep discussed many times and I hope to see big improvement on this.

Shots should leave bullet holes, and they should bleed out of the holes. With an axe or katance you need to be able to chop of limbs and the head and it should bleed drastically! And more of that stuff ya know.

I thought the animations of injured enemies/npc's was pretty good in IV but better in RDR. I'm sure it's been added to & improved in V.

I can't remember if some enemies retreated when they were injured in IV but that would be good too. If they limped away & bled out, or got in their car to escape & die while driving off, crashing the car & their head resting on the horn (which was definitely in IV). Just to give the illusion that your enemies are individuals, with different personalities & instincts.

Like everyone says, RDR got it spot on with death animations and bullet holes, as well as limping etc. Even headshotting seemed more realistic in that the way they died seemed more natural and unscripted.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Red Dead Redemption, didn't peds and enemies stay standing after taking a shot? Well I guess if all the enemies fell down after one shot, then the game would be too easy. As for Max Payne, I never played it, so I honestly don't know what it was like in that game

NPC's in RDR took a lot less damage than in GTAIV. Usually 1 shot to the chest or head was enough for a kill, or two shots to the stomach or limbs. It took much more firepower in GTAIV. Max Payne 3 is about on the same level as GTAIV.

Yea come to think of it, I never really killed people up close, I tried to pick them off with a rifle, which would make sense if it takes multiple shots due to the lack of accuracy from that distance biggrin.gif Thanks for clearing things up though

Yeah it may not have been "ultra realistic", but honestly what game at the time did it better then IV. I'll give you a minute to look up some games and you will be surprised on how effective IV was compared to other titles. Not many games capture a gun shot wound were the victim actually reacts to every shot fluid and dynamically.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love Grand Theft Auto IV and still like to mess around in single player, pretending to be an assassin or some sh*t and use the RAGE engine a ton. There probably are no other games that come close to it, besides Red Dead Redemption, I just think there could be improvements to it

Racecarlock

I would like the rigor mortis not to have the strength of superman.

Seriously, ever use the boat cheat to crush pedestrians? Better get them dead before they enter the injured pose, or else they take no damage whatsoever from the boats falling on them and merely get displaced, sometimes under the map if necessary, because that injured stance is nearly unbreakable unless you run into the pedestrian with your own body.

Speaking of bullsh*t like that, I have also had many pedestrians survive what should be un-survivable death falls by merely playing a "get up" animation. Bullsh*t. That f*cking pedestrian should have died but the game decided the pedestrian would use the animation to survive again. Bullsh*t.

I'm pretty sure a game that has been in development for almost 5 years will have "improvements" in that catogory, so I kind of see it as a pointless question since rockstar has already said that this game has the best version of euphoria tounge.gif.

That was more-so an element of spaghetti-westerns. Ever see a movie where someone is talking, then all of a sudden there's gunshot and a bullet flies through their head, and they stand there for a moment before falling down like a log?

MP3 though being a different game and having a different style, enemies just drop like they should. Depending on the size of the bullet, how powerful the gun is etc. though, will determine how much the body's motion and physics will react.

from Rockstar showcases some of that, I recommend that if for whatever odd-f*ck reason some of you worry GTA V is going to have no improvements whatsoever, that you watch this.

One shot to the head would kill them. With weaker weapons, or a few stray pellets from a shotgun shell, damage to the stomach would cause the NPCs to moan and cry while they bled out and literally crawl away. Shooting someone in the leg could cause them to limp, actually depending on which leg was shot. Shooting out both legs forced them on their knees.

In Max Payne 3 there were some improvements on this, but they're barely noticeable due to the gameplay of Max Payne games. If you're lucky, and didn't completely turn an enemy to swiss cheese, they would beg for mercy, or plead for you to put them out of their misery, or even put pressure on their wounds. There are a bunch of ways they reacted to taking damage, but you don't see it a lot. Whether or not they had a kevlar vest depended on how they reacted to gunshots - unlike in IV where it's just an extended health-bar.

In a game like GTA V, with the improvements and additions RDR and MP3 have gotten, I expect it to be one hell of a game. They're just going to take everything from their games this generation, and weld them all together for an amazing experience.

I kind've liked how you could just incapacitate the cops in IV. It was even better in RDR, where sometimes someone who I incapacitated would make a last stand and end up taking me down.

Well this aged horribly.

Yep. We all thought/hoped at the time GTA V would be a culmination of every game on the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine. Instead, RDR2 ended up being that while GTA V took two steps forward and one step back.

Some of the foundation is there, and has been used for mods. But it still falls short of some of the great technology we've seen in other Rockstar games.

I agree but I would argue that while RDR2 is a huge step up from V, it’s body physics and combat behavior are still not as good as GTA IV. In GTA IV, and even RDR1, it was possible to permanently injure/cripple enemy NPCs, without them dying, but while also taking them out of the fight and making them no longer a threat. In GTAV and RDR2, they will always be either alive and active thread, or dead. Both games do have an occasional “bleed out” stage in between, and RDR2 does it A LOT better than V, but even then it only lasts a few seconds, and they will always end up dead shortly after. The weightiness of the bodies, and the combat AI and reactions to getting shot made GTA IV so incredible for me. The fact that you could slowly and methodically move through a shootout, and it would be different and cinematic every single time, made me not even care or even realize that most of the missions are just driving somewhere and shooting some people, because it all felt so real and unique and visceral

I wish you weren’t completely wrong about this. Lol. I remember that day in 2013 I was so hyped, when I had the game in my mailbox after I came home from school. That was one of the most disappointing days of my life. Seeing how not only did they NOT improve upon any of this, but rather they completely stripped it and downgraded it. I would have much rather they went for a smaller map (just LA, no countryside) or less customization, if it only meant they could have improved upon or at least kept the same physics and animations and realism in stuff like combat at reactions.
