shitposter
is it just me or does anyone else look at someone, get that feeling and think "why the f*ck are you so popular?" well there are kids at my school that are complete dicks i mean a lot of people don't like them but they always seem to have a lot of friends. i mean if "the law of the playground" was in effect at my school it would make sense. Does anyone else get this?
Dale Nixon
never really had that feeling. i don't really give a sh*t about popularity.
Finn 7 five 11
I sometimes wondered why people liked some of my mates who were pretty big douchebags and insulted a lot of people and acted like dicks, but then I would remember I was friends with them so there was something there haha. @The OP we all grew up after year 10 and started being much nicer to people, nicer to everyone, not just our group of friends, so will these guys, our whole year became quite a tight-nit, nobody really had much bad to say about anyone, there were grudges, but people hid them and acted polite, stopped being dicks pretty much. orbitalraindrops
A kid at my high school was really popular. He went to the same college as me and for the first half of they ear he sat on his own whilst I managed to make new friends. How the tables have turned. Does anyone else get this? I wondered about this in the social network. I know a girl, quite pretty I must say, in my former school that usually hangs out with a group of friends. Now they were not like a huge crowd of friends. But on her Twitter she has like 5 thousand followers. So I questioned myself on how she managed to get that much. I went all Sherlock Holmes and started digging. Turns out she followed quite a number of people and would ask them for a follow back. Then I realized she isn't the only one who does this, they are others who do this as well. I'm surprise people put in that much hard work just to feel the feeling of being popular. Not sure about you guys but in my country, being the nice guy is the way to get popular and get chicks. Being a complete dick just makes you a complete dick. ItsOnlyAce
At my school, to be considered popular, I guess, is based on the way you dress and act. I've always bought really unheard of street clothing lines and have always had a really sarcastic attitude about things. It's gotten me to be able to hang out with some of the popular kids. But you are right, most of them are dick heads. So I only have a close circle of kids that I choose to bring around me. I will admit, we do really stupid things that entertain is while we're at school but also entertain the people watching and it gets us a lot of attention. Now we aren't attention seekers we just like to have fun. So my friends and I never really pay attention to the popularity bar of what pedestal people have put us on. anus
Dude you're in high school. I had similar feelings back then (not a long time ago ), but then I stopped caring about popularity. Maybe you'll stop caring as well, or maybe you'll pursue popularity even more. Who knows?
Greenline
So, yeah. Back in Iran I was pretty popular in school (I'm just starting to "climb the ladder" here in the US, its tough being foreign), and I was an asshole to most people who weren't in my group of friends. There was this one kid, who I really feel sorry about, because he came into our school really confident and sh*t, and towards the end he was just really f*cking sad all the time. I don't consider myself to be a bully, but a lot of people said I was one (but they were they ones I made fun of, so I would understand why they would say that), and I don't really care, it's sh*t like this that molds you I guess. Jeffrey Dahmer was unpopular, Adam Lanza was an outcast, it's best to let them know that they're worthless now before they get ahead of themselves. Sorry if that sounded waaaay to offensive, but this isn't directed towards all unpopular kids, just a few. @Warlord: Congrats on moving to Australia, I was kinda rooting for you. Hope it all goes well. (Looking back, I've said all this sh*t so often in the OFS thread back when I was still in Iran that I don't feel like it needs repeating. ) Edited March 3, 2013 by Greenline

Ascer
at my high school popularity is usually because of elderness, there have been some legendary students that took them 9-10 years to get the diploma (in my country high school takes 5 years if you don't fail), some of these can even be seen wandering around the school even after quitting high school. other popular students are the ones that do funny sh*t but they're shooting stars, they usually don't last more than 2 years before moving to easier high schools. Hell, he always talks sh*t about girls and they still like him. This one girl he tried hooking me up with (he f*cked her a while back) who he always talks shiand he called her a stupid c*nt for not wanting to hang out with me, antd she STILL likes him. Idk. Forty
I've been out of high school eleven years now, and everything that was important during those four years is completely irrelevant now. It's hard to look past the younger years of life and see that none of it matters because you're living it and it's affecting your life right now, but trust me when I tell you that none of it means f*ckall within a year or two after it's over. El Dildo
there are kids at my school... stop right there. school is fake. popularity in school does not = popularity in the real world. the kind of social hierarchy you find in school does not reflect the social order of adulthood. don't worry about being cool or popular in school. it's a huge waste of time and energy. Yeah popularity stops mattering after school completely, you only hang out with people you want to, you are not forced to go to the same place with the same people every day for many many years. You have workplaces, but that's pretty different.
johnson.
Just do you're own thing, don't even bother with what others think or their actions. High School is just one giants popularity contest & guranteed 7 times out of 10 those popular kids either flunk out or end up working some dead end job. I myself was one of those guys that stood out in highschool, everyone knew my name, dated the pretty cheerleader. Highschool ends and everyone goes their seprate ways. Just carry on with your own business and you'll be a much happier person.

Does anyone else get this? Oh I could go on for days about this, being in year 11 this year I've seen too much of it. Ever since year 5 really, popularity is everything at my school (Private $20,000 a year) It's basically like if your not friends with the popular group your nothing. I know it's always been like that and I doubt it will ever change but it's just so annoying and like most of the time the popular people are the absolute dumb ****s that shouldn't even be at such a school because they don't give a sh*t. (End rant)
mrpain
High School is just one giants popularity contest See, here's the thing thing though. I have never felt that way about school. School is all about getting to know people and studies for me. No one in my school was like OOOH I WANT TO BE POPULAR! I literally like everyone in my school. My classmates, juniors, teachers, that security guard that looks like Albert Einstein, everyone. So I don't get why popularity is a big thing for you guys. I made many friends in my former school. I have never felt left out. And being the sweetest nicest guy or the funniest charming dude will get you the girl. So yeah, is it the fact that you guys have a small group of friends hence making you feel left out and unwanted by the school's social system or is it just different from my country? Because lots of teenagers here gets influenced a lot by American culture. You just have to interact with people, that's all. The nicest thing you can ever say to anyone is "I would really love to get to know you more."

I think it's just different in your country, because from what I've heard stuff like this is pretty common in most high schools around the world. Either that, or you're among the 'popular' ones and so can't see things from the OP's POV.
