WertyRO
Alright fellas, so if we analize a bit the police cars.. they look really bad. Now really, compare the beautifulness of this car : ( LAPD Ford Crown Victoria Interceptor ) With .. ehm-.. with this : ( GTA V cruisers from one of the trailers ) Here's a GTA V -> Real cars comparison If we analize the last picture, you can notice the real cars are very old, used by the USA police around '98-2000. Now we should really have police cars like these : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIyETT_fJmM ( GTA IV mod ) So this is the kind of LAPD modern cars that we should have, and also the lightning system is AWESOME. Check the V's lightning system in the pictures above, and also in the picture below : Now you can see, THERE WAS JUST A BIT IMPROVED COMPARED TO IV's police car's lightning system : Alright, maybe a bit more, but why isn't it possible to have a COOL lightning system like in NFS Hot Pursuit ? ## Now for real, R*, you should think a bit, it is the.. like your sixth GTA game and we still don't have some REALISTIC cars? Uhm.
Trund
According to some of the screenshots there should be a big improvement (I hope). There was a HUGE thread on here not too long ago, exactly about this. But I can't find it anymore.

jamieleng
Wait, so lightning comes from police cars? Shocking! >lightning Sarcastic reply failed And why did he fail exactly? Good question. On topic: I'm not sure why some people are so obsessed over the lights on the police cars. I'm sure there will be many different types of police cars, with many different light bars. Uhm. Where's my reply to this? Ah here we go.... First off, REAL car makers will not allow R* to use their brands in GTA. That means no Crown Vics, no Ferrars, no Fords, no Lambos, no nothing. Why? Because of GTA being, well, GTA, If you were in charge of a car firm that sold real cars to real people, the last thing you'd want would be to be in a video game baed around crime and running people over. Second: Even IF a car maker (say Lambo) did allow R* to use their cars, R* would have three key obstacles: First off, they'd have to license specific cars, and the car makers don't always let game devs get the cars the devs want. Continuing my Lambo example, let's say that R* want a Gallardo in GTA VIII, they've got Lambo's license, but Lambo them come back and give the license for a Countach instead and say that's the sole car they can use. Secondly, the car makers impose limits. No licensed cars catching fire or exploding, Ford does not allow their cars to be used in games where you can run people over (so wave goodbye to any Fords being in GTA, ever), no drink driving. Thirdly, $$$$. Licenses cost money. Whereas a city is free to use and license (unless you're in Italy and happen to work for Polyphony Digital that is), cars are tricker, since the car makers copyrighted a lot of details about their cars, from the shape of the car to the tint of the seats. So if R* went and put in a real looking Cayenne, but badged it as a Declasse, Porsche could very easily hit them with a lawsuit for it. (Porsche slapped a mod team with a do not release order for a free mod, so Gods knows what they'd do if R* did put one of their cars in without licensing it) Next up on the issue list for real cars in GTA... GTA is, and always has been, a fictional universe, do you think putting real cars in would help that? It wouldn't, it'd ruin the world GTA is all about. As for mods? They are fan made (and run the risk of being shut down or worse), they are nothing to do with R*, period.

You do realize that the OP wasn't asking for real car branding. He just wants the "similar" light bars? Rockstar also saves money by not using real brands, instead, they give the cars their own branding with a very "similar" design. This lets them get away with quite a lot. A lot of people seem to forget The Getaway on PS2. R* wouldn't use real world cars even if the manufacturers paid them to put them in the game. Anyway, don't want to get in trouble for constantly going off topic.

For now until the car makers catch on (and they will given enough time, for the most part car makers don't use the Net very effectively). Getaway though was a fictional London, I that (IIRC at least) had the real Metropolitan Police (or close to it anyhow) coded in, I remember playing it in college and seeing the realish liveries on PS2. He did sneak the real car aspect in though, did you read the ## Now for real.... bit at the end of the OP? He put REALISTIC in capitals The lighting could be improved though, I'll agree there. However, people will still moan and whine it doesn't 'look' realistic, because most of the lighting stuff shown is a camera taking the pictures or video, not the human eye seeing it, or the lighting being projected onto a screen or through a projector. Before anyone starts aruging over what is realistic, bear in mind it's a camera and those filters messing with the images, rather than an unfiltered human eye viewing them. StellarRunner
Who cares? Me, and a lot of people care, stupid I'm agree, the light system will be better, and they could use a led light type like in the real world. I think that california have a lot of led lightbars in the emergency sercices.
UsernameNumber6
Well the crown vic's been discontinued, so we probably will only see the vapid cruisers as older models. Otherwise, Cali has adopted the new Caprice PPV, and the Dodge Charger I think.

(Some ENB I've run across has the bloom cranked up to 11....why?). Though (and I'll see if I can find it) there was an article online about how hard it is to get any lighting right in games, I think it was Valve who were explaining it around the time of HL2's release.
