I Want Violence

It will certainly be interesting to see the level of violence in this game, there is still a lot of pressure by governments to tone it all down and the argument for "Its an 18 cert" really makes no difference, it never has, kids still play it, parents still buy it.

Australia has taken a stance, I wonder if any other countries are thinking the same and R* have no choice but to tone it down. Hope not because like the TS, I have always liked the violence in GTA, I never took it seriously and doubt anyone else has, but the governments...

Rockstar won't have to tone anything down for us Aussies, as we now have the R18+ rating for games that you mention and that DOES make a difference. There'll be no repeat of all the bullsh*t that happened in this country with GTA IV with the censored Australian version, or the mess that happened with the new Mortal Kombat when it got banned altogether because of the aforementioned new rating.

If Rockstar took the time, they could possibly come up with a system that tracks your criminal records, and soon enough all around Los Santos on buildings, billboards, newspapers and stuff would have "Have you seen this criminal?" If the violence meter exceeded normal limits, those billboards would be up quite often. At least for me, I love to see the many ways you can slaughter the NPCs in games. Fallout games are the way I'd like to see violence be handled... except for the part with enemies being near indestructible to common weaponry.

I live in Australia but IMO, there are some games are not toned down about violence and gore. Most popular games like GTA, L4D,etc. are most censored games in here. I don't what these governments are thinking right now..

Ah, it seems that you want Postal 2 or Postal 3. Just learned of these today. biggrin.gif

Postal 3 was such a disappointment. I'm no homo-phobe but I loved blowing up the gay nightclub in Postal 2. Pure inscrutable pleasure.

No. Tarantino is a washed-up loser anymore. He lost his creative edge long ago. Now he's a weinstien lapdog--he does what he's told.

You did not enjoy Django? I bet you are in the minority.

really? It didn't do that great at the box office compared to other movies and created even more hate towards Tarantino by many former fans of his. He veered off on 'hate/kill whitey movies' path long ago. What's his next movie gonna be? About Native Amerikans coming back, rounding up white people, torture them, then invade Mexico? He isn't too popular in America anymore like he was when say Pulp Fiction was out. He's a tool. He admitted that he wished he was black jewish. So this movie would make him a racist, would it not? A lot of people were offended by Django.

I have a personal dislike for him because I've been around him many times and I cannot stand him. He gets on my nerve and most other people at parties. People avoid him, I've seen it.

R* can do better than Q.T. easily.

Tarantino doesn't make films for sensitive people. ONLY overly sensitive people got upset at Django, and it was mainly black people who didn't even see the film. And they're not "hate/kill whitey movies". If anything they're "hate/kill evil asshole movies".

Tarantino is an artist/film historian. If people avoid him, it's probably because he's a nerd who is pretty f*cking weird. You can't create the type of films he makes if you're not a little strange. Did he diss you or something? He lives in a different world than you, so he probably just didn't have time to talk to you.

And just be honest. If you don't like him, just say that. Everything you just said goes completely against the comment you posted earlier. You just don't like him, but don't be a hater. He's still producing quality films, even though you seem to feel too much discomfort when racist white murderers get killed in them.

I'm in the music buisness and know people and go places. I'm very fortunate. We have mutual friends to boot. I didn't say the movie offended me because I know what to expect from him. I'm saying he is not as good as he once was. Just opinion. He's been brainwashed by the wienstien brothers. This is a known fact. They tell him what movies to make. He's their b*tch.

Quentin is weird. Very weird. I didn't really mean that I hate the guy, because I don't. I mean I can only handle him in small doses. All the gold diggers and wannabes, however, hang from his b*llsack everywhere he goes like flies on a turd. I don't wanna be a movie star so I don't. I've sat and talked to him many times and probably will many more--just not for long convo's. As I said, he gets on my nerve.

Again, at first thought, I thought that maybe QT would be great to write for GTA but now that I really think about it, I just don't think he would write what you think he would. A lot of you are wanting Pulp Fiction.2 but he can't do that no more because he is under a spell. Or his well dried up. Wait 'til you see the dumb crap that he's wanting to do(if he even does it).

For GTA, Sean Vanaman, Mark Darin, Gary Whitta, Clint Eastwood,---there are many good writers out there and if R* would spend a little money, we could get a solid, gripping story. Dan houser just isn't a great writer(my opinion). He's gotten better, but still not near the level of the greats. Atleast bring in someone to co-write.

I don't really care about lot of blood and gore in a GTA game, but I do think that games these days, have a lot less gore and all... It's always f*cking censored! Like, if you look at RE games... Resident Evil 4, when a chainsaw guy cut off your head, well it was getting cut for real! Then in RE5, the head was still there, they censored it! I don't want a game to be censored, it's fun so see heads, legs, arms, cut off... I mean you know... I think that we all see worse things in movies so why not in video games?

Fair Enough. I definitely agree Tarantino is very weird. He tries to act black for interviews for black audiences, he acts like one of the guys on O & A, and he even sounded extremely effeminate in another interview. I think the guy has some type of social disorder or something. I still don't agree about his films, but I guess to each their own.

I agree about Houser though. It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I've always felt the writing in GTA was only "okay", and maybe less. It's weird how seriously R* takes every other aspect of GTA. They hire the best people for every job, but when it comes to writing they just use some guys from around the office. This is what most developers do, and sometimes they get lucky and the guy happens to be a natural, but it's an aspect of the industry I don't really like. I don't think script writing is something you should just decide to do one day, unless you really take it seriously.

I think in GTA there will be violence in the game, but I doubt that will be the main focus for Rockstar. If there over-the-top violence all the time then it will spoil the game, and it may seem that there's hardly any story, which I don't want. I play GTA for the story and if game developers put violence for violence sake then I wouldn't buying it. Games are for escapism and I know that violence is in the game, there is, I think a point for it. All it depends on is how much they should put in and how over-the-top it is.

Everyone wants violence, but unfortunately if it is to violent it won't even be released in australia (where I'm from) so they will make it acceptable for release in all countries, because they do not want there sales affected.

But can't we all act? Isn't that something that everyone is born with? You don't have to be a rocket scientist. A lot of these actors are dumber than dirt and that's the truth.

My wifes family works in the industry and there's always stars and musicians around some of her families houses. It just isn't no big deal to me. I'm not a star-struck person, if ya know what I mean. But anyways, I always said that R* should bring in some professional writers to help cowrite everything. I don't understand why they haven't, really. If nothing else, step aside and let someone write one mission. It would just mean WIN for us.

I want there to be a function that allows you to target certain areas of an NPC to be more accurate with melee weapons. It would be an excuse for people to use them in combat again rather than just be there for screwing around.

its the media who will have a field day. i mean they did it with IV... and there is literally no gore in there. like how its horrendous killing people, it influences people to kill... blah blah blah.

if V is a hit with sales and its got gore then media will eat at it.

and they'll go even more crazy and politicians will get involved if anyone who owns a copy of GTA ends up killing someone.

Violence has a place in GTA, but it shouldn't be the main focus.

I think Ballad hit the perfect tone for a GTA game. It was funny and violent and entertaining, but above everything else, it was satire.

Luis was the straight man to ridiculous characters like Tony, Yusuf, and the Kibbutz brothers. Runnin' and gunnin' was just part of the over-the-top experience.

Pretty much agree with this, violence shouldn't be the main focus and BOGT did a good job.

However I would like slicing of limbs with a katana to return and bloody footprints, because that was pretty fun to slice peoples heads off, particularly the one mission where you fight that captain on the ship who has nothing but a katana.

Bloody footprints were just funny, and people bleed quite a lot, so don't give me the "not realistic yada yada" crap.

I agree with you guys (AtomicPunk and BlackNoise) that somebody should call out the Emperor's New Clothes on Houser's writing.

I am sure it is fun for Dan to come up with the story and write the script, but it's just fairly standard crime movie constructions and characters strung together for the most part. I agree that some good writers need to contribute to the GTA script/story process.

We are all pickled in movie / TV media for our entire lives, and we have seen almost every mechanism and character type and situation that can be strung together in a script. I mean it's not something that everyone can do, but many of us could do a passable job of it, if we had a semester assignment to create a crime move premise and treatment and example scenes/dialog.

Good scripts make or break movies, and we know that sometimes even a series of good writers can mess it up if the process is managed wrongly. So it's not simple, but I agree that since the design in GTA is top tier, it would be nice if the writing and story were also.

It's ironic that we are discussing Tarantino in this context, because he is the master referencer of past movie scenes and concepts, almost to a point of being quaint in his recognition and worship of past B-movie moments, but I have to say that he manages (or used to) to create something that still is new cloth on top of (and well-integrating for the most part) the existing references and in-jokes. But he would be way too independent-minded and hard to work with, too much the artistic diva, to collaborate on a product like GTA.

I agree with OP. But with the way games are going nowadays, I think R* are opting for realism without going OTT with dismemberment, decapitation etc.

It won't be an issue anymore like I said. It can be as violent as Rockstar want to be and it will still get released here now that the Australian Govenment finally rinsed the sand out of its vagina and implemented the R18+ rating for games. Sure, it's possible for a game to still get banned even with this rating but the chances of that are extremely slim.

Something I would love to see when shooting people is how Left 4 Dead 2 handled the gore in regards to shots to the head. As far as I can remember it's some of the most realistic gore I've seen in a game. Being able to blow off individual parts of the face was...awesome.

I don't want over-the-top let's see how much blood we can puff out, but a more realistic look. Despite how nasty it looked when shooting peds and running them over in GTA IV was, the damage to their body was tame.

Yeah I think we can do way better than Tarantino. Some people revere him like he's some sort of writing God. He's also made some absolute tripe like Death Proof and I'm not going to get in to Kill Bill as I'm going to re-watch it before I continue disliking it.. But Death Proof.. that was just self-indulgent crap with awful dialogue and sad attempt to make something cool. The revenge stuff is tired. He's going around parading like Django (which I enjoyed) was some sort of piece of art that's opening up serious discussion about slavery in the US blah. Its not why he made it. He thought, lets do a revenge tale for the underdog and he can be down with the blacks. True Romance was probably the best thing he wrote. As he gets older he'll get more out of touch as he admits.

Most of the console GTA's had something in common. Dan Houser wrote the stories with James Worral. Then he left before IV was out. You know, when GTA started to get uppity and started to take itself way too seriously.

Wouldn't it be great if the 3 protagonists all had their own distinctive animations? It would really add to the realism, and make them that much more different.

What I'm getting at now is if they had their own unique fighting styles? How about how each of them use weapons? Is a certain protagonist better with guns, melee, fists?

The game is garunteed to be very violent with a guy like Trevor around.

For example I think Trevor curb stomping that guy will have similar results to the scene below. They obviously didn't show it in the trailer to save it for the full game.

Even True Romance was clearly Tarantino's childhood wank fantasy. Although it was still a great film.

I agree that his films became very self indulgent after he became super famous. Even before that, he seemed to insist on appearing in his films, despite his lack of any acting ability. I do enjoy some of his films though. Haven't seen Django so i can't comment on that.

His main strengths are writing pithy dialogue, and choosing the right actors to deliver it. He is also pretty good at creating suspense. Take the first scene in Inglorious Basterds for a good example of all of these strengths.

I have to say, although i've never met him, he does come across on TV as a bit of an annoying dick.. I could definitely imagine people avoiding him at parties. Although that is clearly just my imagination.

I completely agree, all the people complaining about GTA being bad for kids, too violent for kids, thats the key word. "Kids" the game is an 18 for a reason, PEGI give it an 18 because they themselves know the game is too bad for children, they don't need some forum to tell them that, all the warriors out there fighting for a cause need to stop because it won't go anywhere, Rockstar are content with the game and PEGI will be content with giving it an 18.

Of course everyone in the gaming industry knows that the ratings mean nothing, but if a parent trusts their kid with GTA then they'll buy it for them, if your kid is violent then you obviously don't buy him the game, whats funny is I bet half the people asking for a profanity filter are only like 13 and just want to feel good about making their stupid point heard and seem like they actually care about "the younger generation" (which is themselves) so effectively these people want to ruin GTA for themselves by bringing in a profanity filter to stop themselves from hearing profanity in a game they're too young to play.

tl;dr If you're gonna complain don't buy the game
