Chunkyman
No. Conspiracy theories in general tend to wildly inaccurate and feed off of people's biases. Abel.

Raavi
No but multi billion dollar companies like Exxon Mobil for example do control United States politics. But that's hardly a conspiracy. – overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise

Well, lobbyism is some sort of conspiracy to me. You can say lobbyism is a conspiracy whith a financial background.
DarrinPA
I wouldn't say lobbying is a conspiracy, it's just a law that has become widely abused - while the regular citizens don't even know or care about it. The next big thing is lobbying groups are calling themselves "educational" so they are eligible for non-profit status [they don't have to pay taxes]. Check out the ALEC lobbying group. Check out the ALEC lobbying group. Is that a bad thing, though? Should a group lobbying for gay or minority rights have to pay taxes?

The next big thing is lobbying groups are calling themselves "educational" so they are eligible for non-profit status [they don't have to pay taxes]. Check out the ALEC lobbying group. It's people voicing their opinions. If they group up, combine their money, and then call themselves lobbyists, suddenly they're terrible people? Lobbying is good for both sides of the political spectrum. Gay rights groups, unions, etc. reap the benefits of lobbying too.
