Now all thats left is for the Pats to shred the Steelers and then the Falcons in the SB so Brady can get his 5th ring and become the undisputed GOAT.

Better than Otto Graham, Johnny Unitas & Joe Cool? I have disagree...

Otto and Johnny U were before their time, they played in an era where the number of teams were much smaller, and the talent was overall weaker. Also, schemes hadn‘t adapted enough yet.

Joe Cool is really the only one with a case, and he played and won all of his SBs‘s before the salary cap, and was on a stacked dynasty team his whole career.

Brady was already 1b to Montana‘s 1a with 4 rings. 5 will just top it off.

You have to take into account NFL defenses were a lot rougher back in the day, even in Montana's time. You can't touch QBs & WRs now.

There have still been quite a few tough defenses in Brady‘s era, and defenders today are a lot bigger, faster, and stronger than the old days.

The evolution of offenses has slowed down considerably since even the Montana years. Defenses are more or less on the same curve as offenses now.

People put too much stock into rings. Football is the ultimate team game. No, Brady having 5 instead of 4 doesn't automatically make it so it's not even a debate anymore. That's silly.

I'm sure his ego will take a hit whenever he has to hand of the trophy to the Patriots... I don't think there's any doubt about that.

Except, you don't get far without a qb, that's the only reason.

BUT... He could've easily had 6 rings, or he could've only had one (thanks to clutch kicking by Vinatieri x2 and a pick from Butler).

Tom Brady is no question the best QB of this era. His rings alone squash everyone, and the fact he (and Belichick) do it with lower tier talent is astonishing.

We all see what he did with Randy Moss and does with Gronk.

Eeeeeeh you can get pretty far without a great QB. Eli was at best average this year and we had the 2nd best record in the NFC. Peyton had only his mind working last year when they won the SB. Rex Grossman made a SB I believe. Trent f*cking Dilfer won a SB lol.

I would actually bet that - at some point after Brady retires - his legacy will slowly be reevaluated and he won't necessarily be the GOAT just because 'X-number of rings.' you can never take away from what they accomplished as a team on the field (on paper) but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that the Patriots have benefited from an extreme lack of parity in their league.

generally speaking the Patriots division is fraught with dismal franchises constantly in transition who are incapable of putting up a good fight. New England usually cruises through the regular season with much less challenges than virtually any other team. their division is sh/t and everyone always has to play them in Foxborough with their homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. they never have to travel outside of their comfort zone. the ease of their schedule also translates into subsequently less injuries to key positions over the course of the year than most other teams might endure.

nobody is saying that Tom Brady or Bill Belichick aren't great.

but are they overrated? yes. yes they are.

Yea, except what do those have in common? Great defenses, not just the best that year but historically great.

I bet these playoff QBs (not the ones replacing the injured ones) could've bought the Browns to the playoffs.

47% of the time that he's been the starter, Brady is in the Super Bowl.

Another SB fact, 25 of the 51 Super Bowls were either featuring NE-9, PIT-8 or DEN-8

Exactly. So you don't need a great QB to win rings. Average is good. Possibly even less. Ben was a hindrance in his first SB and still won lol.

Rings as an end to arguments is silly and dumb.

It is when rings is the only thing left to really argue.

Statistically Brady is top 5 in most categories, especially when it comes to the post season.

For years the only legitimate knock on him was # of rings compared to Montana, and 2 years ago he finally got even with him, so a 5th ring will put him over in that category.

So no, rings aren‘t everything...they‘re just the final brick in the GOAT Wall of China.

They're a discussion piece, not a discussion ender.

A cool stat I just found out recently is that in Brady's first 5 playoff games, he threw 3 TD's and 2 INT's. That's cray-cray.

well, that's not for you to decide. Montana and Brady are neck to neck as the GOAT, do you suggest we vote who is the most handsome for the tie-breaker? You ask anybody who is better, Marino or Montana and they'll obviously pick Montana because of the dynasty he was the forefront of, not Marino. Despite having better stats, and being a allround better QB without the greatest receiver ever. Once Brady (if he does) gets his ring it shouldn't even be a discussion, cause the sad thing is is that Brady is playing at a level that looks like it could last at least another season if not more.... in other words, you're delusional if you don't think Joe Montana's ring count doesn't account (mostly) for being considered the greatest.

El Diablo, nothing shouts overrated like 7 SB appearances and winning 4 SB. its surely not the Patriots fault they're in the division they are in, you sound like you've been sipping hatoraide if you put the Patriots dynasty and overrated in the same sentence... it's actually unnecessary, and blasphemous.

Doesn't work like that.

Those kind of defenses don't come around often, so that argument doesn't hold water. Plus, Grossman didn't win. ;)

If those QBs were any good, they would've easily went undefeated. Just like if Denver had a fraction of 2013 Manning, last year, that team would've went 19-0

But as far as pure passing skills, Marino was the best I ever saw.

Now, the greatest winner? For me, it's Joe Cool and you could say Otto Graham - look at all the championships he won.

In the days of a much smaller and much weaker league.

Brady already has the same amount of SB wins(more appearances overall too), more wins(playoffs and regular season), and a better career win percentage than Montana.

Like I said, 5 will be icing on the cake.

And I wish Marino had at least 1 or 2 rings. He deserved better.

Too bad Marino didn't have what Elway had late in his career.....imagine Marino & Terrell Davis together?

You're forgetting that underrated 49er defense, which led the league in fewest points allowed. IMO, that was the best of the 49er teams.

"cheating" that's adorable, I would love to see what past super bowl winners did behind the scenes back in the olden days... you know, besides taking steroids and doing lines of coke before the game.

Already said that the Ravens defense was one of a kind that year. Anyone would've won the SB that year on that team.

And if he was any good, that team probably would've went 19-0

And Elway would've had another if it wasn't for him, either.

Those 90s Broncos could've had a threepeat if it wasn't for that Jags upset in the playoffs.

Hopefully this doesn't end up being like the Falcons last appearance in a super bowl.. I would really like to see the Patriots win though. It's been a very interesting ride watching this dynasty and something I'll be able to tell my grandkids about.

TedBundyPonyTail
Thomas Edward Patrick Brady is going to slay the Atlanta D with Hogan & Edelman & the pats defence is going to show up & more or less shut down matt Ryan & Julio Jones, Brady will then become a 5 time Superbowl champion, further adding, even more, greatness to his name, and delivering a fifth super bowl championship to the greatest dynasty in the NFL.
I can't wait to see that PRICK Goodell hand Brady & the Pats the Lombardi trophy especially after he TRIED to ruin the great Tom Brady's name! talk about sweet poetic justice!
