I always chuckle whenever someone brings up the Salary cap Scandal or whatever you wanna call it, when they have no idea about the details.

 

 

Here's the situation, the Broncos had to fork over $100mil of the $400mil for the new stadium and they were having some problems getting that money. So, whomever was working in the finance department made agreements with Elway, Davis and other players already on the roster, to have their payments of their contract deferred to a future time and promised to pay interest on that deferred payment.

 

The main problem was: "That commitment had the effect of converting the player's roster bonus into a guarantee, which affected the timing of the salary cap treatment of a portion of the bonus."

It's not as big of a deal as people believe it was. There was no competitive advantage whatsoever, nor would there have been any problem if there was no immediate future to build a stadium.

 

It's nowhere close to what the Patriots have done. Everything they did was a complete competitive gain, spying on practices and signal calls to deflating footballs. Patriots would've fought like Brady, if they knew there wasn't some foolery going on. I still think there something fishy went on, especially with Brady not cooperating with the investigation, destroying his phone. The texts between the equipment managers, all sorts of sh*t.

 

Hell, even we got fined for recording practices but guess what? We had Josh McDuckf*ckinDaniels as the Head Coach, coincidentally the OC of the Patriots.

 

So, suck it.

 

 

Let's not forget, there was no salary cap prior to the 94 season. You totally can see the effects of that, 13 straight Super Bowl wins by the NFC

Circumventing the salary cap was not the cheating I was talking about. Btw, that made more cash available to the owner, something that allowed him to afford Neil Smith's signing bonus. Bowlen didn't have any money because of the stadium build. So don't say it didn't help the Broncos, when it clearly did.

 

 

No, the cheating I was talking about is the cheating that Mark Schlereth and others have admitted to doing during those years. Cheating on the field that gave them an advantage. So, if you say the Pats championships are tainted, then so are the Broncos.

 

Btw, the Pats NEVER spied on teams practices. That's a rumor and have never been proven.

Stealing signals is nothing new. Teams did it before and they are still doing it. That's why teams change signals during halftime, because the other team has usually figured them out by then.

The issue wasn't even that the Patriots was filming the signals. The issue was that they were doing it from the wrong area. Had they done it from a different "allowed" area, this would never have been an issue. Spygate has been blown way out of proportion.

 

People love to hate the Pats tho, that's why their bending of the rules gets more hate than when teams like the Broncos do it.

49ers were caught circumventing the cap, and Rice said he used Stickum. So, let's just say everyone bent/broke the rules to get championships.
