Let's be real, the only reason they won those two Super Bowls were from the defense, a drop by Welker and a miracle catch. Nothing to do with Eli.

 

I've had this discussion with Irviding in our private section. He's not even in the top 5 currently starting QBs.

 

 

If you wanna be considered "great," you have to be relevant constantly. He hasn't lead his team to the playoffs in 4 years.

Well, he was being held and there was a foul called. So, he probably was on his way to get there but yea, OBJ's hands are ridiculous.

Ah yes, carried by dat 27th ranked defense. Don't forget that 32nd ranked running game! Eli couldn't have done it by himself, that running game opened everything up for him!

 

Let's just forget that 8 of our 9 wins that year were 4th quarter comebacks by Eli (*cough*NFL Record*cough*), including a 12 point comeback against Dallas with 5 minutes to go to keep our season alive in week 14 (Special thanks to JPP too).

 

Let's also just forget Eli breaking a postseason record (Most yards thrown, and had a 9:1 TD:INT), along with smashing their way through the Falcons and the 15-1 Green Bay Packers and surviving a relentless 49ers pass rush en route to the Super Bowl.

 

And then let's forget Eli outplaying Brady in the SB to the tune of 30/40, 300 yards, and a TD, with a perfectly placed pass to Manningham that made his, once again, 4th quarter comeback drive possible.

 

But yeah, you're right, it was all JPP and Welker dropping that ball. Had nothing to do with Eli at all.

 

Did the defense step up in the playoffs? Hell yeah. Bless 2011 JPP. Were they the sole or majority reason we won? Hell no.

Season smeason, I'm talking about the Super Bowl games themselves, but I'll go along with that.

 

5 of the 9 regular-season wins were 4th quarter comebacks that year, with another being a game winning field goal drive. 7 of the 13 wins were comebacks, so you can have that, but it's a tied NFL record with Peyton (Whom did it all in the regular season).

 

Tied for second with 48 sacks.

 

This would've easily sealed the deal if Welker caught it, so yea, a huge lucky break for the Giants.

 

4 minutes left, 1 timeout for the Giants. Even if they held them to 3 and out, they would've gotten the ball back with under 2 minutes

 

 

Brady vs Manning stats in that game were minimal. 20 more passing yards, 3 more completions, 1 less touchdown.

 

Nothing extraordinary but someone had to win MVP, nobody stood out so Eli gets it. 27 out of 49 Super Bowl MVPs went to QBs lol

 

 

 

 

Where's your justification for the 2007 season?

 

This is the season I was talking about being carried by that defense.

 

Lead the league in sacks, 7th in total yards/game.

 

 

Should've been sacked, should've never have been caught. They were just destined and the 72 Dolphins were probably more happy than the Giants. lol

 

 

 

Even still, two good runs through the playoffs. Can't argue it but you can't argue the three other times, either. The Giants and Eli played like sh*t.

 

443 Yards 2 TDs 6 INTs 0-3 record

 

 

 

A win is a win but I don't see Eli being elite or clutch. If he can win another Super Bowl with the time he has left playing, 5 years or so, then maybe but 4 straight years without playoffs, the time is running out.

 

 

Plus, Brady has been consistent throughout his entire career, if you think Eli > Brady, then something is just wrong. lol Even though I dislike him and the Patriots, you can't argue he is the most accomplished QB of all time. You don't have to give him the GOAT title (he's definitely a front runner, but Eli is nowhere close), but he is definitely the most accomplished.

Can't get to the SB without going through the regular season first, and the only reason we did that was because of Eli.

Eli got it for the Manningham throw. I've only seen a couple more perfect than it since. And none as big.

I don't have one. I didn't touch it for a reason. 2007 you can make the agument. 2011 you can't. That was all Eli. He was the only reason they made the playoffs, and while defense did get hot at the right time, they wouldn't have had the opportunity, if not for Eli. And Eli balled out in the playoffs too, it's not like he sat in a chair and watched his defense do work.

 

It's the reverse of this year. The defense wouldn't have had the opportunity to crush my dreams week in and week out if not for Eli hahaha

Speaking of defense winning a game, why do we say Brady has 4 rings? I mean, his defense won him the game with that last INT...Obviously, just like with the Welker drop, that defines the game and negates everything else, right?

But seriously, Eli GOAT and it's not even a question.

That's how it works, Brady led the team down the field to get a touchdown to take the lead. The defense just stepped up at a crucial moment.


Just like leading his team down the field to just get a field goal to win, which was the case for some of those Eli comeback/GW drives.

 

I always say, Brady can thank Vinatieri for two of those wins. I'm sure the Bills would've loved a sure footed kicker. He did thank Butler for getting that interception by giving him the MVP truck. lol

 

Only the Eagles game was an outright win.

 

Quarterbacks will always get the blame or praise.

 

 

 

To be honest, a true defensive carry was the 2000 Ravens. Dilfer was there for that one season, wasn't resigned after they won the Super Bowl. Making him the only QB that has happened to. lol

 

Big Ben wasn't a good example. Though, the Super Bowl between the Cardinals would've been a hell of a lot different if they tackled that guy before halftime. It haunts Fitzgerald to this day.
