cp1dell
I've seen this brought up multiple times. Whether people are discussing GTA IV, or optimizing games. Numerous times I see someone mention that the modding community had to optimize GTA IV. Yet, I haven't seen any mods or anything regarding this. The Ultimate Graphics Tweak just removes the static blur, and even motion blur, medium distance blur, and DOF depending on which tweak you download. Things like VisualIV or Environment mod just use a custom timecyc.dat and such to improve the colors if you don't like the dark gritty tone IV has. Then there are people who instruct you to turn down your settings. That's not optimizing the game. I don't see how it's possible for people to optimize the game without having the source code or something. When I think of optimizing the game, I think of the developers or someone fixing the way the game uses resources, and high-end cards and CPUs being able to play the game on max settings. Yet, that's not the case with GTA IV. There are lots of people who have a good CPU, and a good GPU, and are able to play most modern games on max settings - but have to play GTA IV on low or medium settings because it's terribly optimized. Yet, there are people who always briefly mention that the modding community had to optimize the game. Could someone kindly point me in the right direction of a list, or collection of mods that optimize GTA IV so it runs the way it should on a PC? And if the mod alters the models, textures, or graphics of IV in any way - that's not optimizing it. That's dumbing it down so it can run better. So please, I'd really like to see some examples of the modding community actually optimizing the game. Because I sure as hell can't find anything that does that. T-ru
GTA IV is poor optimized because R* are throw too many and unnecessary visual effects and too heavy loads (texture rendering) objects and the stupid thing is that they are not toned and optimazed, and i think that even R* don't know how or they don't want to (7 patches man, and nothing just some small fixes), they don't have a time or because of hardware, like this the hardware companies make a money ("Damn gta4 lag as hell on my PC, i must upgrade it."). Anyway this's only my thinking, if you want to hit 60 fps and above (on today PC), you should use some mod, there is a lot of mods these days for the game. "And if the mod alters the models, textures, or graphics of IV in any way - that's not optimizing it. That's dumbing it down so it can run better." - Here you are definitely wrong. Any specific mods in mind? Apparently Environment Mod uses a different lighting system or something, along with a few other things - but I don't think it's for v1.0.7.0 "And if the mod alters the models, textures, or graphics of IV in any way - that's not optimizing it. That's dumbing it down so it can run better." - Here you are definitely wrong. Care to elaborate? If the mod uses simpler models, textures, or anything - sure that's optimizing it in a way, but that's not the default IV. I'm looking for mods that optimize it in performance like it should have been from the start, not simplifying the graphics to optimize it.
unc13bud
Visual IV, last i heard http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=415952 but i need to point out that MOST modification makers are going to have the best machines for running GTA IV - because they have to be able to use the computer to modify the game! they are modifying GTA IV usually to add something they felt was missing... enb is big resource hog, some of the other mods look like ghost towns... radioman
In your haste to post, you must have missed the big, bold yellow letters at the top of every sub section that says "Modding questions/problems? Post in these forums"-where the underlined part takes you to the Modding Forum-where ALL modding related stuff goes...This section is for Un-Modded games ONLY, as noted in the rules topic in every GTA section. Just a friendly heads up.
