People here are just hating on sony for no reason. Half of them are obviously PC and 360 fanboys. Watch when E3 arrives, this meeting was ONLY a teaser, the real deal is E3. Then half of these big headed fans will start ass licking them.

I'm a PC user. I'm not hating on Sony at all. In fact I think the direction the PS4 has gone is great because I think there's a good chance it will indirectly benefit the PC platform. And if the rumours that the neXtBox will also feature an x86-64 processor architecture then that will be even better.

 

All three platforms could end up so similar that porting costs will be vastly reduced and we could all see a wider range of titles on all three.

It depends. How far ahead were gaming PCs to the Xbox 360 in 2005? Was 512MB of RAM relevant to PC gaming at that time? That could be a good indicator as to when the next gen consoles will start falling behind PCs again.

Why do you idiots keep comparing PC to consoles? They are completely different things and are desinged differently. PC is high tech multi-tasking platform designed to do loads of things in one go while consoles are strictly for gaming ONLY and just a few social things added, thats all.

It matters because a lot of people do, in fact, buy PCs to play games. It would be nice if, for a while, the consoles and PCs were in the same ballpark of horsepower because PC gamers have had to put up with half-assed ports. I'm not a fanboy, hell, I don't even have a PC.

 

From what I hear, the architecture of these new consoles are more in-line with what you'd see on a decent gaming rig, so that's good news.

My bad then, i apologise. But consoles are made only for gaming, plus it's made every 6 years at least, so its not easy to par with PC tech.

This means that R* will need to port GTA V to the PlayStation 4. It's as simple as that since PS3 games will not work on the PS4. Also don't expect a PS4 version so soon, I mean the PC version hasn't been announced yet and you people are talking about the next gen release already.

2. GTA V will be on 360 and PS3, R* confirmed it recently in the comments section on the NewsWire after someone asked about a PS4 version.

Hmm, I didn't catch the entire conference so thanks for the heads up. I'm guessing people are wondering if GTA V will can be streamed to this service or not. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, all PS3 games can be streamed through Gaikai to play them on the PS4. It will not accept them as discs. Apparently it has something to do with the new architecture ditching that horrendous Cell processor that was such a headache for developers.

 

I wonder how this streaming service will work, I imagine we'll have to pay for it maybe it will be tied to ps+ or you pay for each game. I don't think it will be tied to ps3 accounts that played the game since they're free and you can make as many as you want.

If PS4 was directly backwards compatible, I would pick it up day one as I already have a massive library of PS1, 2, and 3 games. Alas, I will have to wait until the PS4 has a large catalog of must-have titles. PS4 is gonna be great... sometime around 2015-2016. My PS3 will have to suffice until then.

Because of the amount of rumors that came true for the PS4, like the 8 gigs GDDR5 RAM, new controller, Gaikai, etc etc, we can assume the next box rumours will also come true. And that means it's not looking good. Even if the Next Box gets more than 8 gigs of RAM(which it wont), it wont matter for sh*t if it's not GDDR5. If it's 8gigs of standard DDR3(which is what rumours are saying), the PS4 will wipe the floor with the next box. Like it is with the WiiU, almost a year before it even launches. Nintendo should just stop trying.

There's really no mystsery behind it. It's still going to be on 360 and PS3. I could imagine the kind of backash they would get if they cancelled it and made it a straight next gen release. Actually the thought of that is absurd.

 

Maybe if it had just been announced without any actual confirmation on the platforms, but the fact it's been announced on 360 and PS3 makes it hard form them to say "Nah we'll just can the 360 and PS3 versions".

 

I know some games have been announced on one platform and another platform has been added later on in the past, but I can't think of a single game (especially of the magnitude of GTA V) that has been cancelled on an officially announced platoform (or in this case platforms) only to be pushed back to another generation. It's well known how much work R* have put into the 360 and PS3 version of GTA V. They wont abandon it now and I'd bet my life they wont.

 

Current gen: 100% Guaranteed.

 

Next gen: Maybe? If some previously announced games are anything to go by GTA V could be a cross generational release.

 

GTA V will end up on 360 and PS3 and that's a fact atleast initially.

I honestly don't think it's that easy to just port a game like this over to next-gen right away. Then again...Ubi IS doing that with Watch_Dogs.

If this is the case and Rockstar has been developing this game for 4+ years for the 360 and PS3's hardware, when did the devkits for the next-gen consoles came in? Like...soon after Rockstar announced the Spring release? I highly doubt Rockstar wasn't already informed by MS and Sony about next-gen consoles or hell...i bet they already have the devkits for a while now. I see no logic in first stringing fans along with giving us that Spring release date only to delay it at the end of January and claim it's to make it the best game it can be. I see no logic in that at all. If they wanted to release all versions simultaneously (and i'm just saying IF there are more versions than just 360 and PS3) they would have never announced that Spring release cause they knew damn well the next-gen consoles weren't gonna come out in Spring.

 

I'm trying to find any kind of logic there, but im stuck...i can't find it. So i'm just gonna go ahead and believe Rockstar in that it got delayed because they weren't happy with it, that it wasn't the game it can and should be. It would be similar if Ubi had said last year during E3...Watch_Dogs coming out in Spring 2013 for current consoles and then in January delaying it to the end of the year. Nah, right from the start they said late 2013 i believe or...sometime in 2013. If Rockstar was gonna make next-gen versions too, they would have announced V for a September or even holiday release last year in November and not Spring. So while i can definitely understand why people keep thinking that we'll see a next-gen version right away...i just don't...because i see no logic in it at all.

Not directly it isn't. You can't just bung your disc in the drive and play.

 

No, you've got to use some dodgy streaming technology in order to 'play it from the cloud'. That means that you'd have to buy your game from Sony's cloud service and have a reliable, high capacity, always on broadband connection to play your pre-generational game.

No. That is not the reason for the delay. The reason for the delay is because they weren't quite close enough to being finished to reliably make a spring date. They wanted more time and so pushed it back to September.

 

That's all. There are no ulterior motives or conspiracies here. There is no reading material between those particular lines.

 

What MIGHT make a next generation edition of GTA:V possible (but not necessarily likely) is that there is a good chance that they will be developing an x86-64 version for PC; to come some months after 360 and PS3 versions. So it's not too much of a leap further to adapt that version for next gen PROVIDING economic factors make it viable.

 

But in the mean time, don't hold your breath.

This... maybe that's the reason why they do not have a PC version because I guess they are now in development alongside PS4 since now top-of-line PC hardware are as same as PS4. But it is only a possibility, although R* would take it under consideration.
