World Champion
Let's say I'm paying as Michael. I jump off a skyscraper and halfway pause and switch to Franklin, and I'm at the same location, would I suddenly see Michael drop out of the sky and splat? Or does Michael remain suspended in the air until I switch back to him?

It'd be pretty unrealistic to have Michael stuck in mid air until you switch back to him.
r0eladn
lol who here can come up with the most creative idea of switching protags?

rodrich266
I remember that in some interview they said that you could not kill other characters by switching to another one. Probably Michael would pop a parachute open and land safely
Guest
Sorry to piss on your fireworks, but what if R* wouldn't allow you to switch protags in mid-air?
World Champion
Sorry to piss on your fireworks, but what if R* wouldn't allow you to switch protags in mid-air? That's quite possible. I'm curious as to how it will work, 'cause you could do some awesome sh*t if it does let you.
Frantz Fuchs
I don't think you can be in 'high profile' while switching protags.
Adriaan
Should be cool to let Franklin and Michael go all Thelma and Louise off a cliff, and use/switch to Trevor to take a picture of it.
Dmos23
Would be a pretty epic scene to have one character nose dive a massive airplane in the middle of the city traffic then switch to the other character which would be close by to watch the epic movie scene LIVE! S1LV3R_W0LF
I think they will make it with something like "unswitchable in critic situations" like many games have that don't allow you to quicksave when your almot dead or falling from a cliff and so on, so situations like falling, running from the cops or when your health is low should disable that possibility. Although it would be great if Rockstar created an option for that, like you could turn it on/ off but only after you finished the game. Something like you finish the game and you create a new save that allows you to do it all again but with some "candy" options, one of them turn that limitation off. BlackNoise
I think it's much more simple than people are thinking. I bet if you switch with enough time, the AI will take over and the character will handle whatever situation you left them in. If you switch right before the character dies, I'm guessing we'll see the paramedics come and take them to the hospital. When you switch back to them, you'll probably be standing outside the hospital.
Darth_Starkiller
Even better if Michael splats right on Franklin.
Johan
Should be cool to let Franklin and Michael go all Thelma and Louise off a cliff, and use/switch to Trevor to take a picture of it. Would be awesome, if you're quick enough
JeezoFreak
They'll probably make it so that you have to be standing still/parked in a car in order to switch characters. But I hope they don't because OP's idea sounds hilarious.
Raynos
I don't think you can be in 'high profile' while switching protags. Yah, probably get a message saying "Unable to Switch" or something till you are standing still, have lost your wanted level and are no longer on fire. Fuckoutdawhey
I'm sure you will be able to switch whenever the hell you want to when just free roaming. Remember they live their own lives when you're not controlling them. They'll probably be marked on your radar so you can crash your car into theirs or just run them the f*ck over and they'll be "wasted" and end up in hospital. As for this question, Michael will pull a parachute or just fall and die if he doesn't have one.
Algonquin Assassin
I think that would be awesome. We could always try to save him like CJ trying to save Madd Dogg's drunk ass with the truck.
marcx
That can't happen, while we are playing with one character, the other two are in their houses, at work or wherever. I think we won't be able to see Michael reaching the ground, he will just disappear at the moment you switch to another character. It's funny that people still think we'll be able to leave a character somewhere, switch to (let's say) Franklin, drive to the other and he's still there. I don't think so. You can do activities with the other charactrs but you can not leave one character somewhere on the map and expact him to be there when you swith to another and drive to the same location. SocalsZHP
He'd probably hit the ground before you can switch to the other player... I don't think you would pause the game to switch players you just do it on the fly.
saintsrow
I wonder if GTA V has been cancelled. I doubt if protag switching will be possible in such dynamic situations as described in the OP. I think the protags will have to click together the heels of their sparkling red shoes while chanting "There's no place like Home. There's no place like Home." in order to make the switch. It is possible (and mostly likely has been mentioned in this forum) that the unforseen but not surprising complications in logical flow of the game, created by protag switching, have been a partial cause of the prolonged development and delay of GTAV. Too bad; seemed like a good idea when they thought it up in a brainstorming session 4 years ago in Edinburgh.
