Money Usage & Jobs in GTA V

MONEY USAGE IN GTA V

GTA fans, i think it's time i give my idea's and thoughts on how money should be used in this installment of Grand Theft Auto.

Below i will show you examples of activities, vehicular usage, pedestrian usage and other ways to have money a factor for.

Activities

As we all know, in Grand Theft Auto V, activities will be more present. With mini-games like Golf, Tennis & even Yoga confirmed, we can expect some quite exciting and fun stuff to do around Los Santos. But, will price be a factor? Well, i believe for activities taking place around Los Santos, a certain price should be given. For Tennis, in real life, you would normally pay to hire a court for a certain amount of time. With Golf, you obviously must pay to play either half a course, or more for a full 19-hole course.

Prices will vary of course, with certain activities costing more than others. If you would like to, you can perhaps discuss prices and how much you think it will cost for the activities to take place, or even for anything i mention later in this thread.

Now onto Jobs with Activities. So, there are many ways to gain money in GTA, but how about a more REAL LIFE like way to earn money. How about giving us the option to either go to the Golf Club, or search online for the golf club and apply for a job! You go to your jobs location, go to the marker and it skips the shift. Giving you a realistic way to earn cash.

Sports/Venues

If you have been to Los Angeles before or if you are just a Baseball or Basketball fan, you know what LA brings to the table. For Basketball, we have the LA Lakers and the LA Clippers both using the Staples Center, which is located in downtown LA. We don't have any idea or any history of a Los Santos Basketball team, but if the Staples Center is in, you can expect a local LS Hoops team! With the baseball however, we already know after viewing early screenshots that the local Baseball team is called the Los Santos Saints. The LA Dodgers, the real life baseball counterpart plays their home fixtures at Dodgers Stadium. So perhaps Dodgers stadium will be in the game aswell, but renamed as Saints Stadium.

Now to the money usage part. With specific venues, like those two great sporting arena's/stadiums, will we be able to go to the front door and pay to watch a game? will we be able to go to the "Saints Stadium" and pay $100 for a front row seat, or cheaper for back seats? Or will these stadiums just be scenery on the world? Let's hope Rockstar has given us this chance, because this is quite a good way to spend your money on Grand Theft Auto.

Again, with the Jobs thought, how about giving us the chance to go and apply online to become a fast food clerk inside the Staples Center, or Event management.. or how about becoming the local coach/manager? Something to give us cash in a realistic manner!

Food/Drinks/Clubs/Pubs

This sub-topic has been used in past GTA's very well. As we know, you could always go to a Takeout store and purchase a burger or something like that. You could buy cans of soda, you could go get drunk at a club or pub, and of course you can go inside a strip club and pay for your own luxurious lap dance. How can Rockstar expand this though?

First of all, with food and drinks, we were limited in GTA IV. We only had the option to purchase a burger from only two Takeout storse, Cluck'n'Bell & Burger Shot. This was quite a limitation. How about we get 3,4 or 5 takeout stores, and more menu options. Perhaps have ice creams on the menu, have meals like San Andreas did, and even have just Fries or a Soda as a solo option. Then of course have the prices, which should vary depending on meal size. Now speaking of snacks and drinks, why dont we have service stations/petrol stations around the town, with an accessible building. Why cant we have snacks and drinks inside to purchase? how about, if your up for it, go ahead and rob the clerk, stealing money from the cashier?

Same goes with Pubs/Clubs/Strip Clubs. If i want, i should be able to go up to the bar, and choose a specific drink. Drinks like a beer, scotch and coke, a can of alcahol, wine, and other spirits. Why not have this option, its a good way to spend money for something, and a good way to enjoy the pub/club. But, this will only work if the game has a sit down feature, where you can buy a drink, press R3 and you sit down on the closest chair/stool. Same goes with takeout stores!

Now this one is a big one for jobs. Alot of todays population works at fast food restaurants. How about giving us the chance to work at one? Perhaps work at a club/night club aswell! And if you work there, get discounts when you go for fun!! This i think would be a lot of fun! and very realistic!

Vehicles/Transport Services

So first of all, vehicles you drive on the road. Petrol Stations are their for a reason. How about the ability to pour your petrol and pay for it after you pour? Thats money usage! Of course, we may have vehicle customization. PaynSpray or Car wash again? that was always a good way to spend your cash! How about being able to take your car to a dealership, and sell it to them? Thats a good idea. Also, you about being able to go to a dealership and be able to buy a car, used or brand new, your call!

Trains/Trams/Busses and all that should be accessible aswell. Including airplanes, but the airplanes is only a good idea if their is more than one airport, which i doubt there will be more than one. But, we should be able to purchase our train ticket before entering the train, go up to the machine and pay! Same with a cruise perhaps! All of this is a good way to make money usage so much more realistic.

Now for jobs, this is also a good idea. We should be able to get a job as a car salesperson at a dealership.. get a job as a train driver, as a taxi driver or even a pilot?!

Other Ideas

Finally, a few things that spring to mind when i think of GTA and money altogether. Wouldn't it be nice if we can purchase a private jet? purchase a VIP ticket to a club show? how about different prices for plane rides: First class, business class etc... Helicopter hires or tours, even be able to purchase a private Heli aswell!

VIP seats to a Saints or Basketball game.. Lets not forget with jobs, we could even try and become a police officer, a fireman, a medical person! How about drug dealing? thats a illegal way to earn money aswell? Perhaps smuggling drugs from one airport to another.. the challenge of getting through airport security undetected?

ALL of these ideas im sure are on the top of everyones list, well most anyway. But as we know, Rockstar most likely wont and CANT put all of these ideas into the game.

But, i have a good feeling they may add a few extra things in, since the game is delayed, but they do say its for extra development, but little do we know, it could be to move GTA V to the PS4 rather than the PS3.

I hope you all enjoyed this read, i hope you all agree with alot of the ideas with money usage and jobs for Grand Theft Auto V!

Thankyou GTA fans!

Sorry kid, but being a burger flipper in GTA is not high on my list.

I like the ideas for spending money, but I'm not so keen on jobs. I mean, this is called Grand Theft Auto, and all though it is a given that you can do anything you want, I really think more time should be spent on something like robberies, assassinations, drug running, you know, things criminals do.

I mean if they can fit burger flipping in there too, more power to you, but I don't really think it should be a high priority.

I totally forgot to put all of that in. Alot of things i can think of just didn't click to me at the time, but yes, id love alot of Criminal stuff included.

But all this other jobs stuff i think is just an added incentive incase you want to earn some extra cash, its not something you must do, it could be something you might want to do.

It could be made as a optional setting aswell.

Like I said, it would still be cool if they had those in for those who really really like role playing, I just don't think it should take as much priority as the criminal missions.

What I mean is that while some development time could be spared and if they decide to do so hooray for you role players, but I think more time should be spent on the criminal stuff.

Some people want too much stuff in games nowadays, not only in GTA.

I guess it's the kind of people that are unhappy or don't have a social life and want a game where they can do everything they can in real life so they can escape from it and spend 16 hours a day in game.

If R* would listen to these people and put it all in the game, 80% of their resources would be wasted on boring stuff.

Every topic always has some d!ck, who instead of saying why they like/dislike, or argee/disagree with the OP's topic or adding something relevant to the discussion does this.

I personally like a lot of the OP's ideas on how to spend money, like purchasing private planes and cars from dealerships, and different prices for foods, activities and such.

I'm not sure if/how some of the OP's moneymaking ideas would work, like working at the fast food resturant or by going to the golf club and getting a job, esp since he described it as little more that going over there, stepping into the marker and you get paid, that doesn't really seem fun.

I agree with the OP on the activities like golf, tennis ect... I'm thinking their will be a betting system to earn money, like putting "x" amount of dollars on a game or activity..

The_Anti-tragedy

You can order things from the internet that let you have beds that differ the amount of hours of sleep you get, TV's that give you different channels, etc.

Maybe updating your cellphone someway. Like applications or something. Maybe you can download games onto your cellphone, like a parody of Angry Birds.

Imagine buying a bed and you only get 1 hour of sleep on it. And for another one you get 12 hours.

There were so many damn commas it took me 20% longer to read this.

OT I think most of your ideas are good, except the jobs thing. No thanks. Also I would rather blow up gas stations then have to fill up my car at one.

A lot of today's population works at fast food places, so when they finish work they want to go home and pretend to work at a fast food place in a driving/shooting crime game.

This is one thing I am particularly curious about...

the usage and focus on money.

Right now, I can imagine anything and nothing.

Like, R* says NO buyable property, but what else is there?

If the main focus of GTA IV was death, it surely delivered. Most of the missions included killing. You had to kill former employers, you had to decide to kill certain people...

Michael needs cash, Trevor likes the action and jumps in, Franklin has the ambition to get money, but what to spend it on?

Sure, equipment, clothes, activities...but this doesn't sound too satisfying for now. So I'm curious. With properties and customizable homes, they could have implemented something to spend a lot money on. Well, car tuning...but it's GRAND THEFT AUTO after all, we don't necessarily need to buy cars, when we can steal them.

You know, after looking over some footage of an old game that I fondly remember, I can safely say there is one job that I would enjoy.

Can you guess what that is?

Also, for those who did guess, I do want the money bonuses for crazy driving too. This is a sandbox game, we should be encouraging crazy fun mayhem, not discouraging it.

The Money System

The Money System in Grand Theft Auto 5

Purpose of thread:

Here are some of my ideas on what needs to change with the money system, but I'd like to hear yours. What do you think should change? Do you think it's flawed or perfect? Should GTA5 be more like Red Dead Redemption?

Introduction:

The forum seemed a little slow, so I figured I’d write a topic about something I feel very passionate about. This topic is about “money” – and I think this is what GTA5 will definitely need if it wants to stay on top.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will change three major things:

• The Money System (Link)

• The Wanted Level System (Link)

• And Multiplayer (cs)

Check out the above threads for my ideas and suggestions. Feedback is always welcome. Cheers icon14.gif

$100 Ringtones: A Summary of why GTA4 wasn’t fun.

user posted image

Money should be more realistic. As you remember, ringtones in GTA4 were $100 each. Why would Rockstar do this? Why is this even important? Here are my reasoning:

There are countless other examples; but let’s just stay specific. Making ringtones $100 each just shows that Rockstar lacked options for this area of gameplay. Money was pointless – and almost worthless! Therefore, what's the point? What drives players to compete missions? There is no sense of reward. Money needs to be worth something. More importantly, Rockstar needs to put things in the game that we want but can’t get yet (Houses, cars, perks, etc).

The “rags to riches” story may be overplayed, but it doesn’t matter. “Rags to riches” is simply more fun – and that’s more important than anything else. Fun is essential to games. People want to feel successful. People want to feel famous. People NEED money.

Listen, Taxi missions and Firefighter missions weren’t fun because we got to drive people around everywhere. They were fun because they had benefits. MONEY! The thrill of driving people around meant you could finally afford that AK-47 that you’ve been working hours on trying to get. This is what needs to return. Does anyone agree with me?

Look at a lot of the basic computer games. How does the game play out? The point is to make money, and pay for the perks – such as more health, armor, weapons, better weapons, strength, etc. What keeps the person playing is the drive to earn money and get more things. This is what I want GTA5 to be.

• How many people played the Taxi missions just because they needed fast cash?

• How many people tried to win money at the casions, cause they wanted something in the game they couldn't afford?

• How many people lost all that money, and were chased by the Lownsharks?

• How many people liked robbing stores in Vice City?

Concluding, I think the $100 ringtones was proof that Rockstar knew they had a limited amount of things to actually spend in-game money on. By making it $100, it was like they're saying "We need something that they'll spend money on." GTA5 needs to change this.

Notifications, Notifications, Notifications.

A notification refers to the "Respect+" and "Busted" screens that we all got after completing missions or getting caught by the police. These simple reminders are highly important, because they're what physiologists call positive reinforcement. They think it's important too. cool.gif

GTA4 didn't have any mission endings. The money you made would present itself at the top right of the screen, and you better hope you had your glasses on! I want to know how much money I earned after each mission, and not have to look at the small numbers at the top right of the screen. It's not that I'm lazy. It just doesn't feel rewarding to me.

What ever happened to the old mission endings? The Ballad of Gay Tony sort of had this- but it was terrible. It was too complicated. The mission endings just has to be simple, only including the words "Passed" and the number of money earned. Did anyone miss this? We need to have a system (like San Andres, Vice City, and GTA3) with notifications - and not the Ballad of Gay Tony. We need a system that basically says "Good Job" and "Well done" right to our face.

On a side note, notifications should be used to narrate gameplay. GTA4 was sometimes confusing because I wasn't sure what was going on. You'd only get one notification that would tell you how to how to take a knife/weapon from someone. How many people actually knew that? I didn't.

Example: After you get arrested, you can have access to all the charges placed on you. Therefore, you can see what crimes you committed and how much you were charged. (Like a really bad receipt.)

Example: If a cop is pulling us over. A notification will pop up on the top left saying, "A cop is pulling you over for reckless driving. You can either stop or take the risk of running."

Example: When you have a one star wanted level, you’ll get this: “You are wanted for assaulting an officer. Fine: $50. Surrender or suffer the consequences.”

Going in Debt

user posted image

I don't know about you, but this is what I missed from GTA4. I want there to be a moment in GTA5 where I lose everything. I want my safehouse to be a park or under a freeway. This increases playability! Everyone will have their own experiences. Plus, I don't know what is more fun: trying to regain all my money or being chased by loan sharks.

Gambling

Gambling has to make a return. Although GTA5 isn't set in Las Venturas, Rockstar can still implement ways for a player to gamble. Horse racing betting, lottery, casinos, illegal gambling, casinos, online poker, illegal car racing. These are all possibilities.

Banks & Loan Sharks

Banks in GTA5 should be more than just an ATM like GTA4. You should be able to take loans and invest your money in banks. This doesn't have to be as complicated and realistic as real life. It can be simple. For example, take a look at a game called Stick RPG. It should get you on the same page as me.

Loans would add a whole new dimension to gameplay. I loved the casinos in San Andreas because you could get so far in debt that it would actually be fun to get that money back. (It was also entertaining to get chased by loan sharks.) Again, the banking system should be simple. You can put your money or borrow money out. (However, there would be a limit based on your current financial status.) If you don't pay it back, there will be consequences, such as 'Government' loan sharks shoot you.

Safehouse Ideas

user posted image

• 6 safehouses, 4 apartments, and 4 motels, are available in the game.

Type of houses:

• 4 - Apartments, with on-street parking (1 space)

• 2 - House, one-car Garage

• 1 - House, Two-car Garage

• 1 - Warehouse, Garage - 8 parking spaces.

• 1 - Mansion, Two-car Garage + Helipad

• 1 - Mansion, One-car Garage + Dock (can save one boat)

• 1 - Campground.

• 4 - Motels - (Can order a room for up to in-game 7 days & save your car.)

• 5 - Homeless locations: Parks, under highways, etc. (free)

• You can sell your house to purchase another one, but you'll lose 20% of the original price.

• Each safehouse will have areas to save your vehicle. You cannot save your vehicle there unless you own in, this includes hotels, motels and campgrounds.

• Safehouses will be expensive. You'll have the choice to keep or sell for better property.

• Everyone will have a different experience, simply because there is a wide variety of real estate. If the player wants to live out of a hotel for the whole game, it's possible.

Buying Cars

Buying Vehicles

Can we buy cars in GTA5?

The Benefits

• Purchased cars will always reappear at safehouses. (under certain circumstances)

• You can drive the car you want, rather than driving around for hours looking for it.

Short Introduction

How about a car that saves itself everywhere? You are limited to one car that NEVER disappears. It will always spawn at your safe house, unless something happens to it. (Let me explain.) You can park it in parking lots, parking garages, or anywhere else all across the map. However, there are some cases when it would disappear. If your car becomes undrivable, it should reappear (brand new) at a local Pay n' Spray. The good thing is you wouldn't lose your car completely. The bad news is there would be some fees for the repair, depending on the damages.

user posted image

Parking

Players can park their car in any parking lot across the game for as long as they want. It will never disappear. On the other hand, if a player leaves their car in the middle of a park or street, it will respawn at a local Pay n' Spray. There, the player will have to pay a small fine for towing. (Keep in mind, cars will only be towed if a player actually leaves the area for a long period of time.)

Damages

If a players car becomes undrivable, it would reappear (brand new) at a local Pay n' Spray. There would be some fees for the repair, depending on the damages. The good news is you can sink it, light it on fire, drive it off a cliff, etc. It will always be your car.

Purchasing Cars

Players can purchase cars online or at the various car dealerships across the game. Car dealerships have a smaller selection, but much better deals. Online websites has every car purchasable, but higher prices. (Link)

Clothing Store Ideas

• 5-6 different clothing stores with more than San Andreas.

• NATIONALITY STORE TBA - Like Niko's Russian shop

• Bernies - Fabulous metrosexual clothes for men

• Richies - High Retail Clothing

• Binco - Regular Attire

• Prolaps - Athletics Store

• Persuius - Tuxidos and Suits store

• Less "Wacky" clothes and more realistic chocies. You won't be running around in a Bear Suit... but that... would be... nice?

Weapons

•The first 20 missions do not involve guns.

Yes. I'm being serious. The first 15 missions of IV were awesome. I loved how it built up to the murder of Vlad. It felt much more meaningful than just killing everyone. Movies can start with a bang, but they're better if they build up to the action. Ignoring guns and focusing on other aspects of gameplay would definitely change the mood. The first 20 missions should involve more hand to hand combat (aka kicking the sh*t out of people). Plus, there are plenty of other possibilities: using melee weapons, stealing cars, running from the police, stealth, lighting fires, etc.

Rockstar needs to remember how Manhunt unfolded. In Manhunt, players started out with small melee weapons, while guns and heavy weapons were gradually introduced to the story. 'Bleed Out' was my favorite mission in GTA4. We need more missions that are non-gun based. We've had plenty of GTA4 and it just felt repetitive. Guns need to be slowly introduced to the game, just like Manhunt. GTA4 sort of had this, but the only gun I remember looking forward to was the bazooka. The game didn't really have a wide variety of 'fun' weapons. We need more melee weapons!

Notable Features:

•Weapons will be expensive, but you only buy them once, and you ONLY loose them if you get Busted. And if you get Busted, dont worry, you can buy your weapons back for half the price they originally are.

•Weapons should be improving over time. You start out with crappy melee weapons, and then crappy guns, until you get better and better.

• You cannot buy a uzi until you PASS the skill test. There is a class for each weapon that shows you how to use it. Bazooka, Uzi, AK-47. And theyre all located in the gun shops.

• You can store weapons in your safehouse in a gun room.

Stealing & Robbing

user posted image

I had an idea to incorporate Red Dead Redemption's selling and buying system into Grand Theft Auto 5. I hope Rockstar does the same. In this system, the 'prized hunts' would be replaced with stolen goods. Stolen goods include, but are not limited to, jewelry, weapons, and drugs.

Click for video.

Pawn shops should replace the stores from Red Dead Redemption, where we would be able to sell our stolen goods. These pawn shops would be located all across the city. (name: Hardcore Pawn?)

Common, we should be able to rob more than just [email protected] internet cafes! This is a crime game. We should have more options. I want to be able to rob houses, stores, and people on the streets. It's easier if I separate them by title, as each store would be robbed differently and have a different level of difficulty.

Notes:

• If you rob too many stores in the same location, it will be harder to steal. You'll get a faster and HIGHER wanted level. (Ex. the cops will immediately be there and you'll get 3 stars instead of 1)

• Some shop owners will carry guns - and they'll use them too.

Stores: The easiest places to rob, however some shop owners will own weapons. If you kill them, your bounty will increase. (Available Cash: $0-400)

Jewelry Stores: Jewelry Stores would be filled with many glass display cases. All you have to do is jump over the counter and start taking as much jewelery as you can. You'll get a higher wanted level though. (Available Cash: $0-1,500)

Banks: Banks should be robbed as well, but highly difficult. If you get caught by the police, you could be facing double what you would have earned. Your wanted level will be four stars. (Available Cash: $0-5,000)

Houses: Houses will be similar to Red Dead Redemption and San Andreas. We can open drawers and cabinets, which will have money, jewelry, and other small 'pocketable' goods. We then make money after selling them to pawn shops. Some houses will have alarms, motion censored lights, and even people sleeping! Robbing homes will be a skill. (Available Cash: $0-1,000)

Strangers: Pick-pocketing should be a skill we develop, like flying a plane in San Andreas. I think this is much more realistic then killing everyone for their money. However, it may not be as fun.

Miscellaneous

Body guard – You can hire up to two bodyguards once you get to a certain social status. The bodyguards will work like the gang in San Andreas. (You can turn them on or off via your phone.)

Bicycle Shops – Small bike shops will allow you to purchase your own bike, which will reload itself at your safe houses.

Phone stores – You can update your phone as you progress through the game.

For example: You may start off with a free phone and make your way to a “Dingleberry” (Blackberry).

Dingleberry’s allow you to buy and play music?

– overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise

The only jobs I want to see in V should be criminal activities, none of the protagonists seem like they would do anything mundane. Franklin does seem to have what would be considered a legitimate job, but we know the people he's working for are anything but scrupulous.

As for spending money. One of the easiest things for R* to implement would be to allow you to buy every car, bike etc in the game (pink slips instead of horse deeds). Obviously you wouldn't be able to store all these vehicles, you'd have them delivered to you using your phone.

Thankyou GTA fans!

well i hope cuz of the absence of any fun ways to spend ur money in IV that R* will slap us in our faces with TONS of ways to spend our cash!

if they r serious about the vibrant economy, chase of the allmighty dollar and whole new approach in open world gaming etc and dont talk BS to sell the game and overhype it and in fact lie like they did with IV saying niko will start to limb when get shot in the leg and such i expect to be LOADS of ways to earn and spend money in V!

to OP:

activities:

i'm pretty confident things like yoga tennis golf etc wont be for free thats for sure but how much exactly it will cost idk but lets hope its not like 5$ or such for a game of golf in a country club more like 100$ or more hard to put a price on it cuz theres nothing to relate to atm but u know what i mean if we earn like 10k for a mission charging 5$ for a activitie would be worthless but overpricing it with 1000$ would be bad too so the best would be to keep it as most realistic as possible i think...

about jobs:

caddying or such could be fun in a way but not like running into a marker-time skips-money flows that would be boring and more like drive thru town go to point A cash in , drive thru town to point B cash in so on... so if job- like activities then more like in bully when u maw the lawn so u actually have to do a lil task but this could seem silly if ur holywood hills made man michael plays the caddy in one scene then acts as a icecold killer/robber in another...

so if civil/legal "jobs" the more thematic fitting jobs like the escort driving or bodyguarding out of saints row (i know its a sin to mention this crap game here but it had some good features i will come back to later) and no to burger cooking and becoming store-manager and that stuff! thats sounds more like sims...

money usage:

visiting the stadium and pay for a seat yeah (but not necess. choosin what lane u sit thats a bit too much i think) if its handled like visiting the comedy club in IV f.e. with a lil cutscene. but u wanna see a virtual baseball game? thats seems not too interesting imo... maybe if in the cutscene something special happens asides the actual baseball-game but then if something special happens everytime its nothin special anymore and a visit at the stadium would feel like a whacky everytime something must be funny happens thing, so... hard to implement in a right way i'd say...

food&drinks:

hopefully better and more as in IV i liked the SA drive thru pick 1 outta 3 meals type of handling its not too much and not too less but maybe with some additions like the inventory system in saints row so u can have a burger a bottle of beer and a blunt and can eat/drink/smoke it whenever u want also with drunkeness and stoned effects and health regain with the food considering gainin/loosin weight is gone. i loved to get drunk in IV but hated it to get on dates just for it and in RDR u couldn't get far away from the saloon without being sober again so i wanna waste myself whenever whereever i want! that'd great... also buying some and store it at home in the freezer would be awesome! also fully agree with u on the clubs thing smile.gif

vehicles transports trams etc:

again totally agree with u on that! working busses trains etc buy tickets buy cars sell cars (working as a car dealer i don't see really) work as taxi train driver all of it really good and has to be ingame if the wanna meet expectations in case of economy

other ideas:

well thats a bit too much again i think except working as paramedic and cop and also i hope for a return of firefighter missions smile.gif and drug dealing? hell yeah! i want to buy it store it at home carry small amounts with me sell it on the streets with the risk of being spotted by police gettin wanted or the risk of gettin jumped by gangs and the possibility to smuggle it big time poundwise with cars and planes through the desert etc that would be EPIC!

well that were my 2 cents on this topic smile.gif

great topic OP hope i could extend ur ideas and imaginations of our so anticipated game biggrin.gif

PS: im writing on a xbox with a chat pad and english is not my native and first language so go easy on me when it comes to grammar etc i hope u still got my point an it wasn't to hard to read cuz it was a pain in the a** writin it wink.gif

cheers
