K20 Posted February 20, 2013 Share Posted February 20, 2013 There was a report on the news this morning about how the next gen of consoles PS4 and 720 maybe be the last. Smart phones and other hand held devices have dramatically increased in power. This year phones are to have, or exceed 2Ghz of processing power. People tend to play games on these devices more and more. Console life times are estimated to be 6 years before the next version comes out. If smart devices catches up in the next 7 years, will there be a need for consoles any more? Any game that a console can handle, a phone can also handle. Cables and adaptors are already available for TV connection. Will the consoles be phased out in a decade or so altogether? "Experts" seem to think so. IMO, no. But the next gen [ps4 and 720] will phase out after 10 years, increasing its life span till the next. Phones and other devices will be much more powerful. And handle more power. Who would have thought in 2001 that we could play GTA 3 on our phones. Impossible is what they would have said. Its not perfect yet, with controlling, but its close. Do they not grasp that computer technology will also increase meaning those components in consoles get upgraded. Games are nowhere near realistic enough to say we are coming close to limitations. Graphics will be first but then comes animations, physics and AI as well as the upcoming 4K push. An iphone now is nowhere near crysis 3 level.
