TellEmRye
As i've grown up, i've begun to realise our individual insignificance in the grand scheme of time and space, and find it amazing that people were alive during a time were even radios didn't exist. I sometimes wonder, did people years and years ago ever have conversations about the 'future', I wonder if any ever said "imagine a way to play games with people around the world on a little box" or whatever. It's almost surreal to imagine. But I often wish I was born way in the future, for the exact same reasons, what might people have in 500 years time? maybe crazy pieces of technology like a virtual reality machine, imagine playing GTA and COD from your own perspective. Further more, imagine if you were the actual character in the game and you could choose to say whatever you liked to other characters, determining your own path. So my question is to you, do you ever wish you were born in the future? or maybe even the past? or are you happy to be alive today?

Space Cowboy
I would love if I born in early 90s or rather late 80s instead of 1995. I loved most of things from that era.
TellEmRye
Really? that's interesting, the 80s is a really cool era that's for sure. I seem to have a hunger to know how far the human race can go, what we can achieve, even if one day we will be able to reach the stars. At the same time though, maybe that isn't all that positive, maybe living in a time like the 80s is better for the simplicity of life, because I sometimes wonder if technology is at all good for us. Or sometimes I just f*cking wish I wasn't clever enough to even think on this level
El Zilcho
Not in the slightest, and if you wish you were born in a different time purely for the music you're a fool. You can listen to all the music from then and now today? I would have enjoyed experiencing several periods in history but never enough to want to actually live there. With all our advancements today, we've never had it so good. If I had to choose being a Captain in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars strikes a chord with me; gentlemanly conduct as seen here harks back to Medieval chivalry so much so that it is quite unbelievable. You can listen to all the music from then and now today? It's not only about music, it's about everything growning up in different era is totally different feeling. And speaking of music, some people probably wouldn't like 90s music if they grew up in 90s. Just like this generation hates today's music (well not everyone) , next generation might like today's music. (Though it's highly unlikely imo. )
Rebel
I would say the 80's. Although if I got the chance to be a male and pick a different era it would be a toss up between the 20's or the 50's. I'd hate to go back in time being a chick - just super stupid rules and sitting at home cleaning and living in a mans world haha.
Shiva.
I would like to have been born in Medieval times. Just to see what it was like. Same here. You can live freely with nature - by that, I mean living naked. I don't have to hit Google to see some boobs since everything will be at arm's length. More Importantly, I don't have to waste time undressing before getting laid. Just kidding but serioulsy, all those disease, plague, physical tortures and the insecure life of people prevailed back then, helds me back from fancying a time-travel. GTA_stu
I'd hate to have been born in the past, especially pre-19th century, or even in the 19th century for that matter. There were so many diseases, and these were horrible diseases where you had horrible sh*t happening to you. Like massive boils, your extremities falling off and your skin resembling a teenager's face. The cures were even worse than the diseases, they'd hack parts off, shove things where things had no business being shoved and generally just torture you, and then you'd f*cking die. The things that were supposed to help you just made it 10x worse. Everyone was thick as sh*t as well, nobody could read or write. Everyone looked awful, and the teeth. Dear god the teeth! People were hideous back then, and you would have been too. If you were a woman you had it bad, you only had to be accused of being a witch and your ass would either be drowned, burned, or if you were lucky, thrown off a cliff. I would hate it. It'd be sh*t, there was nothing to do except watch a gruesome public execution, or get drunk and have a fist fight. There was no TV, not even radio, not even radio. You'd have a sh*t life and die of old age at 15, leave 20 ugly kids behind along with your wife, who would have to cook one of the ugly kids every now and then just to get by. No thanks. Brilliantly put my friend! these are the exact reasons why I am extremely greatful to be a young man in todays society, i'd love to time travel back and see it all first hand but living in them eras? no one really had any hope, everyone just carried themselves through poverty and pain day in day out, that's no way for anyone to live. Imagine bringing someone from them times to our society today, just imagine how jealous they'd be they weren't born later on, our world would have been unimaginable for them. Little things like that truly make me greatful, more greatful than words could ever describe. But I hate the feeling also that humanity is only just starting to take advantage of technology, that we're only seeing the start of what will be available to us in the distant future. trip
I kind of think I may have been born in the best period in history. I got to enjoy the 70s as a kid and the 80s as a young adult. If I had to pick an era I might want to try out the 20s. They seemed like there was crazy, semi-carefree fun going on then. Secura
I'd like to have been born in the 2030's maybe the 2040's. I'm fascinated by what will be achieved by that time and I know that although I won't be old at that time, I'd like to be a child in a world that's better then it is today and I truly believe that if we take the right steps as a species the 2030's and 2040's could be brilliant. TellEmRye
I'm so surprised by the amount of people that wish they'd been born earlier in history, all understandable however. I do look too the 80s are a good time in history, which i'd like to witness, but I wouldn't choose to be born there, has to be the future for me. As someone else stated, if we manage to move in the right direction the mid naughties could be exceptionally brilliant time in human history, one i'm glad I have the possibility to live and witness but i'd rather be a young person then instead. By 2050 i'll be 56, bloody hell!
The Scottish Guy
Well I'm not going to give you the era I wish I was born in, but I'll give you the era I would have loved to experience at my grand old current age of 27. 50's New York, hands down. For me, that duration in the Big Apple was the golden era of American culture. It just looked like such a fun place to be during those days with Sinatra and co. darthYENIK
I like the time I've lived in. Half of it in an analog world, half in the digital age. Old enough to remember a world where you answered the home phone without knowing who was on the other side, and saying, "Uh, sorry wrong number." and hanging up when you didn't like the person on the other end, as well as knowing how to use a smart phone without asking someone if they can help "teach me how to use it". My dad seriously asks me that. I'm old enough to remember a time when if you didn't catch a TV show when it aired, you didn't see that episode until the show was in re-runs, and young enough to know how to use a DVR to record only the episodes I haven't seen or want to see. I'm old enough to remember when being a "geek" would get you picked on in school, but young enough to not look like a weirdo when buying comic books. 1985. It was a good time to be born. zeppelincheetah
Maybe 10 years younger (would make it 1974) so I could full experience grunge when it happened. I was 7 when Nevermind came out and 9 when Kurt Cobain killed himself. I never really knew about the grunge scene until I researched it as an adult. I had no idea how old Come as You Are or All Apologies were I thought they came out in the late 90's at first. I also wish I was born in the 40's or 50's so I could experience my favorite band as a teenager or in my 20's going to concerts and such - Led Zeppelin. But I like the era I was born in 1984. I see other posters saying they wished they were born in the 80's and yeah it was pretty cool. I got interested in music in the mid 90's and listened to stuff like Green Day, Coolio, TLC and Smashing Pumpkins. My childhood was internet and cell phone free but I got my first internet when I was 14. I bought GTA III on release day at 17 - just the right age imo. I got my first cell phone when I was 19. I grew up at a perfect time for movies. I watched all of the main Disney movies in theaters from Little Mermaid on. Jurrasic Park came out when I was 9 (the same age as the boy). Jim Carrey's 90's movies came out at the perfect time. The Matrix and Fight Club came out when I was 15, South Park: The Movie when I was 16, Kill Bill when I was 19 etc.
