Mr Rabbit
a trick I was told was to spot signals that tell you it is not reality well your reality, they used a red ball, tried to imagine a red ball. or something I can't remember exactly what they said something about a red ball... or was it a balloon? was aneka on the radio at the time... anyway for instance in a fair few of my dreams my mother is alive, that's how I know I am dreaming. it seems to happen during a transition to or from being nocturnal for me. Last one I remember I got myself some telekinetic powers... that was entertaining. Edited February 19, 2013 by NateShaw92
Deffpony
What usually happens with me is that I would try and fly... if I can achieve that.... I know I'm dreaming (and then go bugger off and do what the hell I want). This is something I've been doing since a really young age. So I guess I have been lucid dreaming at will then? Only just realized. But I'm also shocked deffpony only had his first lucid dream EVER if I'm reading it correctly. I thought lucid dreaming was a pretty normal thing... Like I said, its not really my first luciddream, but its the first time I had one with such control and full awareness. @lazyboy: Well Im telling you exactly what happened in mine so I guess it is something like that, or at least it can be. Im sure its different for everyone
DEALUX
I sometimes find that as soon as you become aware you are dreaming, it soon ends thereafter. To some people, yes, and not all the time. My lucid dreams would usually end when it got dark in the dream world. Everything slowly faded away, back into unconscious sleep. I read about some tricks to make them last longer somewhere (can't remember where). One trick involved rubbing your hands in your dream (as if they were cold or something), but I only remembered to do it in two dreams. In one of them I was exploring the streets inside my dream and I noticed that it got really dark and I suddenly remembered to rub my hands. The amazing thing was that as soon as I did that there was this lightning like effect and it got lighter again and my dream lasted until shortly after I stopped rubbing my hands (it worked for a few minutes). I can't remember the other dream where I tried that. I used to have lots of lucid dreams, like a whole bunch of them every month. Eighty percent of them involved me trying to find my way to my crush's house. Sometimes I could make her appear but I don't know why it was so important for me to find her when I knew it wasn't real. It gets really spooky when you try and look at yourself in a mirror. Sometimes this can be a trigger for awareness\lucidity. I saw myself in a mirror a few times in lucid dreams and I had a spooky deformed face but otherwise it looked quite accurate. The most fun I've had in lucid dreams was when I had super powers. I used to beat bad people up really good and it felt nice to be invincible. Flying is also pretty cool in these dreams. Nycki
I hope to have them all the time but I guess I have one every 2/3 months, sometimes I am in complete control and other times the control comes and goes. As Adriaan said it is more by chance. I was not aware you could train yourself to have them! In the last one I had my friend was driving us around, the scenery was constantly changing (a theme of my dreams) but still made some sense, we started in a very urban area, then moved to suburban, then rural until the landscape became very sparse and we got to a petrol station in the desert. At this point my friend jumped out of the car and robbed the petrol station, Thelma and Louise style but he murdered the attendant. I lost control of the dream after this as fear began to take over. I remember thinking that I didn't want to go to prison and what would happen if the police caught us, I woke up shortly after this. The more I've thought about this dream I don't think I was ever really properly in control, otherwise my mate wouldn't have been able to kill the petrol station guy. friendly luggage
I had my first ever lucid dream a while back. I can't remember what I did the night before but in the morning before fully waking up, I was walking around a supermarket (Safeway) and every shopper had a face that I recognised. I must of spent at least 30 seconds just running around and I knew I was in a dream but I couldn't get out of it. Was really strange.

DarrinPA
My First Lucid Dream I finally had a lucid dream after trying for a month or so. I dreamt that I was driving around doing home inspections, which is my job irl. I was lost and I was trying to find my next home. I looked down at my file to see the address of the home and I drove to where I thought it would be. When I got there I looked down and realized I was way off. I drove closer to where the home should have been and when I looked down again I realized I was way off again. After doing this about 5 times I realized that the address kept changing every time I looked at it. And in that moment I realized I was dreaming. Congrats! It's a great feeling isn't!?! It sounds like you had quite a bit of control for a first time, reading is one of the hardest things to master. Although it came to me naturally also. It's one of the strongest things that makes me realize "this is a dream". If this continues; your dreams may begin to feel more enlightening. It does for me. Potato Boggle
I had a lucid dream for a very short time when I was like 10. I remember something not seeming quite right in the dream so I pinched myself to see if pain registered as a reality check. The pain ended up registering as I woke up pinching myself I've always thought lucid dreams were cool but never really tried to have one. I think tonight I'm going to start trying to have them. Gummy
I've been having lucid dreams during the New Year's holiday due to taking too much naps and having nothing to do , I experienced it twice, and one time it was followed by a sleep paralysis, And I never experienced it again until now. I missed doing it, I tried to control my dreams but somehow my head got hurt in the dreams and I just woke up. I don't have too much time to try and Lucid Dream again. Exkabewbikadid
By the way. did you know? 1. If you have a lucid dream you can't see yourself in a mirror. It happend to me. I couldn't see myself and woke up shortly after. You also can't read in a lucid dream. That's not always true. First of all, I've never made any effort to practice lucid dreaming. It just happens on its own. But for many years I've had dreams in which I used mirrors and light switches as checks. Until recently, I would look into mirrors and my reflection would either be missing, blurred out, or heavily altered into something very menacing or demonic. However, in recent months, I have begun to have dreams in which the mirror check is far more realistic and only minor variations such as hair length and style are altered. Same goes for light switches. For a long time lights would fail to work or the lighting would be really screwed up and dim. But recently I've been able to turn on lights in dreams and they work more realistically. I think these checks have changed because I become aware of the dreams before I use them as confirmation that I'm dreaming. I also think when these checks failed before, it had more to do with sleep paralysis and trying to wake up rather than pure lucid dreaming, which would explain why my reflections would make horrible, demonic noises a lot of times. Jimmy_Leppard
I actually remember one of my lucid dreams. I know I was at the top of some building and I knew I was dreaming, so I lied down on the ground, closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep in my dream cause I thought that would result in waking up in the real world. I was 8 or 9, can't believe I still remember that.
TonyZimmzy
Only once after about two weeks of trying. I tried to generically, like most people, fly. I ended up really poorly flying around my house at like 2mph. Risk taker right here.

What are your guys' most successful methods for attaining a lucid dream? In the real world, every half our or hour just think "am I dreaming" and look around, soon this will become a habit and you'll do it in dream and then realise you're dreaming. While you're lying in bed going to sleep, think about what you want to do in the dream and say it in your head over and over.
Original Light
One time I knew I was dreaming, and I spawned cars right in front of me just by thinking about it. I spawned two trucks and a police car, and I ran away. I then woke up. The thing is that it was very detailed, the roads, trees, dirt, even the sound of the engines. Lucid dreaming happens to me all the time, I don't even have to try. One of the things I hate is when you know you're dreaming, and you want to wake up. And no matter how hard you try, you can't wake up. Has anyone ever had that before?

Has anyone ever had that before? Not exactly. I used to have bad dreams and then I would make myself wake up by closing my eyes (in the dream) and screaming. Sometimes I would wake up inside the dream multiple times, like I used to have dreams that took place in my bed and I kept waking up in my bed in the dream. 4 Bagger
I don't think I've had a true lucid dream, I've never really tried to be honest. I did go through a stage when I was about 9 or 10 and I would automatically know that I was in a dream and would always tell myself to wake up straight away, so I woke up and the dream consisted of nothing. I did once however, try to do something different. I remember a dream where I was in a parking lot (looked like the parking lot from Vice City because I played that a lot at the time) - anyway, I remember telling myself it was a dream and ran straight to the first car I saw and got into it and started driving it. I barely drove out of the parking lot and onto the street when I woke up.
MIGta
I've had a fair few dreams where I realise I'm dreaming. Quite often its sexual scenarios and I try and be a bit more confident and experimental, ie things you wouldn't try in real life for fear of being thought perverted lol. Unfortunately I seem to wake up pretty quick from these situations. I've also had a dream where I woke up inside of the dream so many times I thought I would never actually wake up. I've never actually tried to have these dreams, they just seem to happen naturally and randomly.
TellEmRye
Oh wow! recently I was telling my friend about a 'Lucid dream' I had, and I could tell he thought I was bullsh*tting but then I read this! Never knew it was such a big thing. I wouldn't say I have full control to realise i'm dreaming but every now and then I do realise, I remember the first one I had I literally started laughing in my dream and started saying "I could wake up right now if I wanted too, but nah i'll carry on sleeping instead". I woke up and couldn't actually believe it, strange experience.

Kalvin
My latest Lucid Dream was a very short one, usually I start the dream knowing that I'm in one. So this time I was thinking about these forums while I was in the middle of my town, then I remembered Deffpony's avatar and then actually saw what was in it, on the street. I saw it and it felt pretty awesome that I kind of, created it. Then what I did was walk up and look at the dancing guy dressed up as a bear and then joined in. It felt awesome that I copied the moves, although after the end of that I felt merely tired and just closed my eyes, then I woke up.
