How detailed should character customization be?

  1. 1. How detailed should character customization be?

    • Very detailed, be able to customize hair, face, clothing, facial hair, pants, shoes, everything. Pretty much on the level of The Sims 2 & 3 (The Sims 1 Make A Sim feature sucked so I didn't mention it.)

    • Kinda in the middle, not as detailed as The Sims 2 and 3 but not as crappy as GTA IV and The Sims 1.

    • Not very detailed, just give me a few clothes and face options and I'm good to go.

    • I would rather have picking out a character Rockstar already made like in Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 (that's how it is in MP3 right? I haven't played that game but I really wanna get it)

So I don't know if they confirmed whether or not they are doing character customization like in GTA IV or pick an avatar like in RDR and MP3. If you remember, GTA IV wasn't very detailed. Not the worst make a character feature I've seen but not the best. If they do have a make a character feature in GTA V multiplayer it should be as detailed as The Sims so every player stands out and is unique. Seeing someone who looks exactly like me in GTA IV and RDR is annoying, although once in RDR me and some of the players had the same avatar (the blonde guy with the blue shirt, though I recently changed mine) and we made a posse and went after everyone else biggrin.gif That was fun. But still, I think if they do have character customization it should be as detailed as The Sims so all the players are unique and no player will look the same, you'll be fighting a whole bunch of people or fighting alongside of many different looking players. So yeah, what do you think?

I would rather just pick out a character you see on the street or special NPC characters that are involved in the storyline, but we will see what will happen.

Very detailed is a bad choice because that is what Saints Row 3 franchise did and that takes WWWWAAAAAYYYYYYY to long to do. So i would prefer kinda in the middle colgate.gif

I'd love it to be as detailed as they can make it. The depth of the character creation is one of the good things about Saints Row, although I wouldn't want GTA's single player to involve that (they're far too story oriented to not involve specific characters), but multiplayer creates a great opportunity for some great customization. For those who don't want to spend forever on it, there could be a bunch of presets, but I personally love taking time making a custom character.

A Mixture of IV & MP3 would probably be good. That had tattoos, hair, face etc. I'd just like for clothing to be capable of having layers.

definitely more than IV. We should at least be able to change the model's shoes and voice.

It was frustrating for me to find a combination of clothes that l really liked, even when i had everything unlocked.

I also hated the random voices you had to deal with for you're character. Like when i had the hispanic looking dude and he kept getting raspy biker and hic voices.

"A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer" -- I wonder if this will be true?

Rockstar should completely open the world to casual living, like The Sims or Second Life or PlayStation Home, where we can buy all kinds of clothes, shapes, skins, animations and avatars to customize our characters and buy furniture and houses and interior / exterior 3D design elements for our crib(s), hang with our with friends and listen to music and watch movies together and do activities all over the world, and in our own private party spaces.

GTAV is going to be a huge, mind-blowing, high quality virtual world, and we should be able to fully live in it. Complete avatar customization is just one element.

If you have played in Second Life, you can see the potential that a professionally-designed virtual world could achieve. It could be a whole new genre for Rockstar, with a wider user base than just gamers interesting in shooting and driving.

I'd go for it.

It should be as detailed as possible within the confines of authenticity. It has to be believable. I don't want to see a bunch of morons running around with pink afros or stupid zombie skins, so i think those kind of things should be left out entirely.

But there should be as many options as possible to create realistic and believable looking characters in my opinion

Meh.. then everybody you meet is either Claude, CJ or Tommy, makes everything look tacky in my opinion

MP3's character creation was a perfect mix, I want them to do it like that.

I remember with IV there was an article that stated we would not be running into clones of ourselves because there was such a wide variety of stuff.

Partly right, I changed my guy/woman up alot and I never really came across people with everything the same but there was alot of seeing the same types of clothes.

I hope with V they really boost the number of clothing items and character models. I also hope they haven't taken notes from TLAD and tBOGT where those MP characters couldn't speak.

I want to be able to make me the exact replica of Beyoncé AT LEAST. I want it to be uber detailed. I even want to be able to decide if I will have cancer in the game and sh*t like DNA details.

I have a feeling it's going to be more like MP3, which is fine. If you can pick from any npc in the game, that would be a pretty extensive selection.

Echo that.

Honestly if they took everything about Max Payne 3's multiplayer, and plopped it into V's open world, I'll be so very very happy. Customizing guns, customizing characters, leveling up guns and your character with carrying capacity and weapons modifications, and perk/burst slots? Epic!

Also get Max Payne 3. It's worth it. Though I haven't even really touched the Single Player. >.>

This is like making a poll for the question 'Would you like to play GTA V right now or wait another 10 years?'.

Of course everyone wants super detailed characters. Thing is, that would require a lot more work than for what it's worth.

I like how it was in IV and found it quite amusing.

I'm pretty sure there are some limitations with the textures and tech Rockstar currently uses that prevents the kind of sliders Sims level of customization requires. For example, they didn't include muscle and fat systems in GTA4 because you can't just stretch these textures without sacrificing too much detail.

I'd be happy with choosing from a wide variety of hair styles, body types, faces, clothing, and if possible, minor details like specific facial features, tattoos and such. All colors should be customizable as well.

That said, it would be cool if there was a full blown character creation kit ala Saints Row 3 or The Sims 3.

well in the trailers and screenshots, we've seen a couple different outfits (some mission related) on each protag, so we might get a couple outfits like GTA IV.

I would like to be able to buy different clothing, shoes, shirts, pants, jackets, hats, accessories. stuff like that.

Of course, we should keep it so only specific characters use specific clothing stores.

I can't picture Trevor in a suit and tie, like how I can't picture Franklin or Michael in a wifebeater and ripped jeans.

I hope it's more detailed than IV, but not so detailed as sims 2 and 3. But I also hope you can choose characters that already exists, like in rdr.
