"Could not write license data!"

Here is the chronological order of the steps I took before encountering this message

Running WIN7 Professional 64bit, I may have had the game previously installed (I simply cannot recall if I reinstalled windows since then or not), however I used Ccleaner as suggested by Rockstar staff, "fixed" all registry problems.

 

1)Install from DVD

2)Log into Social

3)Click "Play"

4)ERROR

 

Also I tried the following:

 

1)After installation

2)from the game directory, I tried both "GTAIV.exe" and "LaunchGTAIV.exe"

 

I have Social installed on a different partition...if that matters.

 

As I understand, this is a secuROM issue, as the game/installation never asked me for my serial/cd key.

 

Any insight into this is greatly appreciated.

 

PS: I am interested in playing the single player/offline mode only

Did you update your GTA IV into the latest Patch #7? If not click here and download it then install it.

I got the same problem "all of a sudden". As usual running the game as admin (even though it is installed on a "regular location" as opposed to the default %program files%) fixed this error. Take it at face value.
