saintsrow
They don't need to release content to build hype, and they know it, I would say there low content strategy is working looking at all the speculation/anticipation going on here What they're doing can't be labeled a strategy and it's not working. Outside of this forum, there aren't many people talking about GTA V. Most people don't seem to care about it. Isn't this the biggest GTA fan site? Well, the people here are mostly talking about PS4, Watch Dogs, and realistic steak. Well honestly if I weren't an avid GTA fan I wouldn't be talking about a game that is 7 MONTHS AWAY either GTAV is a non-entity to most of the gaming community. It only exists for us, the faithful. GTAV was not on the radar for a couple of my co-workers who are gamers. They only became aware of it as being a subject of special interest when I rushed over to a GameStop a couple months ago during lunchtime, to score the GTAV preorder poster and slide viewer. One of them later consulted with his roommates, one of whom is a GTA nut, who informed him what an historic and anomalous time we are living in right now, in the shadow of the Colossus that will be GTAV. Otherwise, GTAV would have been as remote and irrelevant as the introduction of a new brand of toothpaste. EDIT: It would be insane to market it heavily at this time, seven full months from the release. Yes, but would it hurt them to market GTAV lightly, with a few screenshots or another trailer to keep up the level of interest among the cognizanti who are their serious fans and proselytizers? They have created a lot of ill will. In retrospect now, it's clear that the November 2012 burst of publicity around the Game Informer reveal was as ill-timed as the original November 2011 Trailer #1. There is no sense of grace in GTAV marketing, just knee-jerk reaction to bean-counter financial deadlines and management whims. AtomicPunk
Some of you guys are right. I remember it being fun anticipating former GTA's. We appreciated what we got because it was handed out right. But now, R* developed this 'bi**h-slap' method of marketing that has rubbed the fans the wrong way. They've become coy and liars. I've been a R* follower since before GTA 1 and have never seen fans turn on them until now. This has not happened before. You'd think that they'd see the dissent on every forum, all over the internet, and that they'd wanna remedy that, but instead, they just pour it on even more---a dangerous stradegy if you ask me. I guess this is what it looks like when you get driven by money. The passion is gone and you just become an empty shell. If V comes out with no features and cool stuff in it(think GTA IV), then we'll know what's up. They lost their edge.
Waingro
No features and no cool stuff? Dude give me a break. I got into GTA because of GTA IV. I play it to this day. Enough with the "cool stuff" complaining, I have some news for you GTA V will be much more like GTA IV than their previous iterations. Also, I work closely with marketing people, you are not in their demo. You will buy this game no matter what, and if you don't, you won't hurt their sales. I'm sorry but that's the truth- you're out of the f*cking demo. They want fresh blood, like me, to keep their new HD Universe going. I don't want cool features. I want immersion and mature story telling and social satire, and while it would be great to have some news it's way off target to promote 7 months ahead. Get over yourself and your indignation- all of you.

Hope we get some lifesign soon. Iwould be even pleased about some MP stuff. lol There are life signs. R* Newswire moderators have been replying in the 17,000+ GTAV release date topic (just herding cats, no info). And they posted about tomorrow's GTAIV multiplayer event today. Unfortunately, they care too much about quality. Don't place R* on a pedestal. Everyone loves money. It's not that they care about quality, it's the fact that a half-assed V would spell the end for R*. That's the reason for the delay. Another reason is simply this- they're disorganized and can't get work done.

So what you're saying is that they don't care about quality, but they care about quality? Another reason is simply this- they're disorganized and can't get work done. How long exactly did you spend at Rockstar evaluating their working practices? Didn't you give them some recommendations on how to improve their workflow in your final report? Anyway, I don't put R* on a pedestal. They've released bad games (L.A. Noire, LCS) as well as good (Vice City, IV).

That such an over-used claim here. I want a good story and all that. But, I also want the fun back like in San An, Vice City. Both can exist in the same world. If I wanna load boxes onto a flatbed truck with a forklift, I should be able to. If I wanna canoe down a river, I should be able to. If I wanna jump my bike off a cliff then parachute onto a road below, I should be able to. You see, IV was two steps back for R*. I like mature story telling, I liked Niko, but I don't like boring repetitive crap that was IV. I want stu8ff to do. I wanna load cars onto a trailer truck and drive around. I wanna have fun wasting time. If they leave out the fun this time, they ruin their reputation. It's simple as that and there are millions of fans who agree with me about IV. We can have the best of both worlds ya know. Edited February 25, 2013 by AtomicPunk
CalgaryJay
Why are people expecting a regular stream of news from a notoriously private developer for a game not out until the fall? SlappyPwnsAss
they know we'll all buy the game, so they dont give a sh*t if they release any info... knowing R*, they'll probably release info like 1 month before release. saintsrow
Why are people expecting a regular stream of news from a notoriously private developer for a game not out until the fall or so? Fixed that. The reason I did that is because I think that Rockstar is gun-shy about starting marketing when they can't really predict how long it will be until GTAV is stable and releasable. It could be delayed again. Previous GTAV marketing efforts have turned out to be false starts. GTAV is 10 pounds of game, stuffed into a 5 pound Xbox. I think it is proving to be really difficult to converge the game implementation realities with the grand vision that GTAV started with. I don't fault the developers for taking the time to get it right. I am glad to wait until they optimize the product.
Tomm94
They'll advertise again when they feel the time is right, although it would be nice if Rockstar could release stuff for all those loyal fans out there..
