Watch Dogs is a completely new IP. I think it will be worse just because of that initially due to a lack of direction, nothing really to build on, and we also do not know what it may be like because of the same reason; It is a new IP.

Grand Theft Auto V will be the better game because it has had much experience, many predecessors who's failures and successes can be built upon.

Basically GTA has more experience, it will be the better game. Future games built upon Watch Dogs could be incredible though.

I personally think that going off the official GTA formula with one protagonist, one storyline with fetch-and-shoot quests will make GTA V less succesful than the other GTA's.

On the other hand, no idea how Watch Dogs is going to do.

Haha, that's the exact opposite what I thought.

New IP = no expectations.

Old IP = expectations and they completely changed their approach to GTA games, thus meaning huge chance of failure.

Then again, Watch_Dogs might win for PC Gamers as it's coming out this year on PC, Rockstar seem to lak an understanding of the PC audience, they got it right with Max Payne 3, but GTA's usually come with a six Month Delay from the Console Versions, and I'm sorry, by the time GTA V comes out September, asking PC Gamers to wait until March 2014 is just not on.

Unless it was delayed to avoid that.

I always hate topics like this when they show up, and you know why ? Because it's physically impossible for us to actually get a straight and definitive answer. The whole reason that threads like these are so pointless is because it's absolutely pointless for us to try and discuss what game is better when we know very little about either.

Firstly we no very little to nothing about Watch Dogs, the only things that we know about it are things that we've seen in the trailer at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (or E3 if you prefer to abbreviate things) and that's it. Nothing more, we don't even know what the story's going to be about so trying to compare it to another game, (even if that game had already been released) is a stupid and rather hopeless thing to do.

Watch Dog's first and currently only piece of in game footage

But then going one step further and trying to compare it to Grand Theft Auto V's incredibly stupid, not only are the games looking like they're going to be the polar opposites of one another, (making it even harder to distinguish which game is better) but also because neither of them have been released. That's the biggest problem with threads and questions about this kind of thing. We as a gaming audience have no clue what the game will actually be like before we play it, and that's a pure and simple fact.

Grand Theft Auto V's reveal trailer

For example we may have trailers for both games, when this question is posed (multiple in this case thanks to GTA V's trailers) but they're not and can never be seen as a true reprisentation of what the game will be like upon the day of release/purchase. One of the biggest and most (at least in my opinion) controversial new releases, is Aliens: Colonial Marines. This is due to what the game was hyped up to be, through trailers, magazine and gaming web previews and so on, but what the final product actually delivered was a lackluster experience and the game and it's developers have suffered greatly because of it.

Aliens: Colonial Marines' cinematic trailer, an unfortunately poor representation of the finished product.

Hell the game was so bad that a sneak preview of the game that they'd shown to the press and then some months later to the public turned out to not even end up in the game itself. Yes that's right, they actually spent more time and effort on a showcase or a preview then on the actual game itself. That my friends is why it's impossible in the state that we're currently in, with neither game available for purchase and no way to accurately judge whether what we've seen thus far is an accurate representation of the final product, to tell if either Grand Theft Auto V or Watch Dogs will be better.

Though I am a WATCH_DOGS fan, it will be going up against a game that belongs to an established franchise. It will be hard to beat GTA V.

It'd be sort of like facing the car in my signature against the next Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution; the better known product will have the hype, historical value and status. My product could defeat it, but it would face a great challenge to begin with.

Puh-lease! One has a proven track record & the other is made by Ubisoft.

Grand Theft Auto.

Why? Grand Theft Auto is usually always the better free-roamer. And it actually has history unlike the other one, so I would bet it'll murder the other in sales too.

Agreed. They just don't compare, to be honest. Tons of games a sandbox city-roamers these days anyway.

I know, I used to buy nearly every open world sandox game on the market, but now it's just saturated with half arsed attempts with absolutely no replay value. Obviously the genre hasn't become as stale as the FPS, but that's only because it takes a bit more effort to create an open world game.

Honestly? I think Watch Dogs will be a good game at first, but it doesn't strike me as a game I'll play for months on end. It seems too story driven.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. I love story driven games, but I bet it wont come close to the freedom GTA V will provide. Two very different approaches to the open world genre it seems.

Well its stupid to compare the two because other than the free roam in a modern city aspect there is literally no other similarities between the two, but Watch Dogs is next gen and it comes out for the PC sooner and they mentioned a never seen before multiplayer aspect so we will have to wait and see

GTA V.

GTA is a series that has millions of fans worldwide, GTA is the game that is bought along with every other major game, It is the series that does extremely well regardless of other Titles coming out.

Besides, from what I hear, Watch Dogs is running next-gen, and like so few people will buy Next-gen as soon as it comes out, so GTA V will do like 5x better.

I want to believe Ubisoft will bring something new and innovative to this genre. Hacking, B&Eing, lock picking and (with the exception of SA) stealth are interactions still left untouched in the GTA series, so I'd really like to see them executed well in WD. Though with V supposedly placing a great emphasis on heists, we may see these interactions come to fruition in GTA yet. But will WD be able to compete with the 'do whatever and go where ever the f*ck you want' sandbox experience GTA is known for? I doubt it. Time will tell.

Watch Dogs won't be bad imo, but I won't play it after I complete it. With GTAV I expect much more replayability which is more appealing to me. smile.gif But I don't think story will be better in Watch Dogs , GTA V will be superior to Watch Dogs in all aspects imo. wink.gif

tbh I only think GTA V will win because of the massive map.

You really need to put a smiley at the end of a sarcastic sentence. Some people might think you're serious.

Again it will come down to PC Players, console players will obviously flock to GTA V and proclaim it as the best thing ever like they did with GTA IV, but Watch Dogs is coming out on PC at the same time, and has been tailored for a next gen experience and built for PC whilst being scaled back on consoles, it's meant to be open world but combining a lot of elements from Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex to make it a more interactive world.

In terms of looks, Watch Dogs will completely destroy GTA V on PC and stands a chance of appearing that way around SIX MONTHS BEFORE GTA V will even bother to make a showing on PC. So sadly, thanks to the way Rockstar have played this, GTA V is going to look pretty outdated on by the time it arrives on PC somewhere Mid-2014.

*Sigh* the amount of fanboyism and foolishness is way too damn high in this thread. I thought I'd already explained clearly enough why it's absolutely impossible for any of us to make an informed decision on the matter, but it turns out that the majority of you aren't even able to realise that.

I mean come on, some of you are saying that the only reason that you think that Grand Theft Auto V will be better is because of its map, or its track record and as much as we'd love that to be true a good track record never, ever guarantees greatness in a video game.

Now I have to ask, why the map ? We nothing about either games map, what they'll really look like and what we'll be able to do in them so why on earth are we prematurely judging the games for something that we don't even know about. That'd be the same as me saying that I preferred a particular brand of beer even if I'd never drunk alcohol my whole life. Can you not see what's wrong with saying that ?.

Nevertheless it seems that most of you are unable to grasp this very, very, simple base concept and I have no doubt that you'll end up disappointed with both games as a result of you judging them before their actual release. I would hope, that those of you who've said that one of the games will be better than the other will take a look a what I've wrote here and make an informed decision later on, rather than doing the stupid thing and unthinkingly branding one game worse then another.
