I rather have the ability to buy stuff I can actually use. And it doesn't make much sense to buy property while you're robbing businesses anyways. It's just not that type of game. Thieves aren't trying to take over the city.

Yeah it would seem like a huge contradiction. GTA V simply isn't a "Rags To Riches" type of game. I'm sure we'll be able able to buy things with what we get from the heists, but the objective isn't to be a king pin like in VC and SA.

I'd personally like to be able to buy lots of planes. And a hangar to store them in. And weapons too. Serious military grade sh*t that's hard to smuggle and therefore really expensive and not just available on the streets.

This is what I think R* may do to compensate for the lack of no buyable property. Plenty of expensive toys to buy such as planes. I wouldn't be surprised if the submarine is something we can buy too.

I'd get more enjoyment buying those things than a static property.

I'd buy a Submarine Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

If GTA V was going to have buyable property it would have. You could start a petition and I bet R* still wouldn't add it during these next few months. It's simply never been or never will be intended for GTA V.

Besides with the way people go on about it I'm starting to feel like it's one of the most overrated features in the series. Sure it's nice, but people make out as if it's the sole reason we play GTA which IMO couldn't be further from the truth.

I don't need buyable property in GTA V for it to be better, but that's just me.

This.

The property thing sounds cool, but then I remember I'm playing a game. A fast car or off-road vehicle is cool because it actually applies to gameplay. The same thing can be said about other vehicle types and weapons etc. The problem with property is it's only visual.

I rather have the ability to buy stuff I can actually use. And it doesn't make much sense to buy property while you're robbing businesses anyways. It's just not that type of game. Thieves aren't trying to take over the city.

Isn't property buying a good way to launder cash?

Also the uses are not JUST visual, we had assets that made us money and safe houses were we can save our game. In SA this was a big deal because 1 safe house in each city just wasn't enough, so much space requires more save spots, otherwise we'll be traveling for 15 minutes before we can save.

If we don't have enough save spots in V, with the massive space they're providing, it will become so tedious getting to the 1 or 2 safe houses around the next 10 miles.

Truth is when it's in these games it have a massive use and a massive impact. Why they never continued it in IV baffles me, f*cking 5 safehouses, and then onto EFLC Luis and Johnny had 1 each I think, maybe 2. Travelling down to the bottom of Alderney was a pain in the ass, if only I could have bought some tired old flat/apartment in the middle of Algonquin.

R* are a good company, but they make mistakes and you don't have to defend everything they do because your a fan of their games.

Property buying should have never left.

you have a great point there. really a great one.

yeah i want realistic real estate,

i wanna be able to buy a property, spend 6 months renovating it, then another 6 months watching the property market on a daily basis and then go through the whole sale in excrutiating detail, employing lawyers, arguing over the price, then selling up and organising a mortgage for my next property.

sounds great.

tbh i've never cared much for property purchasing, car/weapon customisation, they've always just struck me as mostly "periphery" activities and not "core" mechanics, so i really don't care either way.

They should make it. I miss buying property very much and also i think we might earn money out of this like in Vice City Stories.

Yes but why buy a plane, when I can just steal it for free? Or just steal the submarine?

Look its not about just "Spending your money" on propperties its spending your hard well earned money on something useful, you would want to show off to your friends how big your propperty is and the area its located it would create competition also it gives you a good feeling of having your own home then being given one for free and that was the case for san andreas

R* has already mentioned that not everything will be available for us to just take. Stuff like submarines, classic and rare cars, and nice expensive planes probably won't be available to just steal.

I personally never cared for property purchasing. All you really did before was walk into that spinning symbol and get more money to do nothing with. R* did screw up though with marketing. All of this economic crunch talk and foreclosures seen in the first trailer would certainly mislead many people.

Given the amazing complexity and richness of GTA open world games, it seems like adding a business / empire simulation and the ability to buy a number of properties would just be a tiny, easy, unobtrusive minigame that would make people happy and would not have to interfere with the main story.

By highlighting the outrageous range of prices of California real estate (and commercial rental rates per square foot per month), players would see the need to accumulate resources / property / empire and invest to create more money, to buy even more expensive properties. It could also highlight the ability to buy distressed and foreclosed property at low prices.

All of this is useful real world education which would be a side benefit of what is otherwise an amoral crime game. Maybe fathers could even teach their children something useful in life about saving money, as opposed to the usual GTA life lessons:

In a complete twist of irony, maybe by the end of the game, after the storyline is complete, Michael has accumulated a huge, laundered, legal empire, and then when some street scum heists some little piece of his wealth, he gets the Michael / Franklin / Trevor / Chop gang back together and goes after them, to show them the error of their ways. Kind of a white collar gang wars thing.

Same logic can be used for properties. Why buy it when it can be given for free?

excuse me?! tell me one of those "loads of stuff" please?

I'll try to, once Rockstar reveals them.

There can be side missions for these. Like we could kill mafias who are racketeering.

You can have side missions without property.

One of the loads of stuff: car customization, customizing the properties that we are given with each character, etc etc.

Now you give us some legitimate activities because side missions, as mentioned, can exist without buyable properties.

To be honest, sure they should've included it, but that's no reason to flip a huge sh*t and say "Don't buy GTA V, it's going to suck!" etc etc. I don't get a whole ton of enjoyment out of buying some store and having it sit there...even if it does earn me money. That seems like a hoarder thing to do. I'd rather go out, customize a car, do a few races, get it blown up in a cop chase, and then rinse and repeat. That seems like a much better use of money, and if all GTA is for you is shooting NPCs and people in multiplayer and then "driving around" boringly, you are clearly not in it for the full experience. More than that, I cannot see how having a random house that you bought sitting on the side will raise the level of fun you have to the degree you claim it will. A minor difference, sure, but turning the game from the boring, repetitive mess you claim it will be to this intricate creation of infinite replay value...simply no.

Thank you for the great supporting idea. I'm adding this to the first entry.

What I dont get is how people constantly seem to mention that these properties are just static objects. Why would GTA V not have this as an option? This really was something we loved in Vice City and SA and frankly, they were very useful. I remember how hard I worked my ass off in the game to be able to buy that malibu club in Vice City and it felt so damn good honestly.

As f*cked up as it might sound but GTA means more than just a crime game to me. I really feel connected to the world of GTA when I play...

rockstar might end up having it for dlc since they won't have any ambitious dlc like tbogt and tlad. I hope to see more cars, guns, houses, over the top stuff, mini games, etc. I just hope they don't expect a ton of money for a small dlc package

I just hope there are tons of places to either buy or given to you to save the game(safe houses)...GTA iv didn't have enough its always cool to save your game by the nearest place you visit the most and have more than one game save so you can start out in different areas so you don't get bored spawning in the same area

Things I would like is :

. many save locations with multi car garages

. maybe a safe house in the city on the top floor with a lot of glass so you can see the full map or jump out or even have a heli pad on the roof

. safe house at the airport like SA so you can have your own plane near by or by the coast save the submarine at your dock

Yes, also i love houses in games. One example Test Drive Unlimited 2 houses are the best. If Gta V will be like that. I will be perfect. Buying new things for our home, colors etc, and big houses with a pool.

I hope Michael's house will be like this.

Wow, that's really cool !! I didn't know that Test Drive Unlimited 2 was like this. I think I will pick it up this week.

I also got interested in virtual home design by seeing some great examples in Second Life. SL is a true open world where people can design just about anything they can imagine (and of course it costs real world $$ to affor the space for bigger and more complex houses). A number of artists design houses and tons of other products for SL consumers. I made a mention of Second Life mansions in a different topic about Michael's house:
