Both have their similarities:

 

- Good morals

- Voice

- Ethnic origins (African-American)

- Come from/Live in the ghetto

- Young and hungry

- Both are against dealing/taking drugs (although Franklin might smoke the ganja)

- Both are skilled with a firearm

- Both have decent fighting skills

 

 

And their differences:

 

- Franklin wants a life away from gangbanging, while CJ was happy/content with being a gang member forever although in 1 mission i think he said he wanted to forget about gangbanging and asked sweet to go live with him in mad doggs mansion.

- Without being disrespectful, it is fair to say CJ has been through a lot more trauma than Franklin, first losing his brother, then his mom, and if you played through the story, you would know that he nearly lost sweet.

- Franklin has more respect for women than CJ

- Franklin seems to have more drive/ambition (he has a side job as a repo man), although there is no denying CJ had to work his backside off to suceed and it did not help when he had a corrupt cop on his case.

- CJ seems the more loyal of the two (although it may be too early to judge yet)

- Franklin is more muscley than CJ

- It is fair to say that Franklin is a better driver than CJ ryder mentions that CJ sucks at driving on numerous occasions.

- CJ seems to be more of an Original Gangsta (OG) with a good sense of humour (like Eazy-E/Ice Cube), where as Franklin is more of a modern hustler, serious, smart and with big ambitions to make money and be sucessful (in the Dr. Dre/50 Cent mould)

 

Please explain your reasons why you think Franklin will/will not be a better charachter than CJ.

Well, R* is in general taking a different approach to storytelling this generation. There's plenty of comparisons that could probably be made between CJ and Franklin, but it is all quite subjective who is the "better character". But Franklin, being part of R*'s recent take on storytelling, probably has more overall depth as a character.

 

Still, though. This is way too early to be comparing them, it seems like something we should be doing after the game comes out and many people have already beat it.

Hopefully this question will be asked again after the game is released, and i would love it if this thread was made a sticky, because it will be interesting to see the charachter development on this generation of consoles, especially between Franklin and CJ. That is one of the things i am really looking forward to seeing in V, along with Trevor's story, who i will be playing with the most.

I think Franklin will be a much better character than CJ, and he'll show his intellect more. CJ is my favorite character but sometime he was just to much of a bitch and whined at times. I see Franklin being fearless.

I voted yes, because I didn't like CJ. Everything I've read and seen of Franklin makes him seem like an awesome GTA protagonist.

CJ Was a pretty good character. Not to mention the entire SA story revolved around him so players got alot more of him than they will have Franklin (as he is one of the three protags). CJ was kinda fun and Franklin seems serious. I always like fun characters but we will see how Franklin's character comes out to be. I voted too early to judge.

I think it is too early to compare them. We don't know much about Franklin. CJ was a different story, he had some morals and also way more fun than Franklin that's for sure. Judging them would be the same as comparing who is heavier: 2 ton rock or 3 ton rock.

You're the one comparing skin colour here. There's more that make them similar, like their gang background, wanting to rise to the top etc...

Too early to say, but ill say no. Because Franklin seems to be about business whether legitimate or not. CJ is a gangsta that eventually gets help to form what unexpectedly turns into business venture and money situation but do-sent stray from its core story roots seen in the beginning of the game.

difficult to compare the two to be honest, we were with cj from pretty much the beginning of his "career" whereas franklin seems already established and moving away from his gang roots (pre-game) and moving into less "gang-based" criminal operations.

so perhaps similar but diverging storylines, cj moving up the gang structure, frankiln moving away from it.
