Filters on Each Protagonist's Gameplay?

When playing as Niko, Johnny or Luis, one could easily tell the gameplay differences as each of them had their own "feel" to them. Niko had this oil pastel-ly and dark feel to his gameplay which complimented the storyline greatly. Johnny had this noise filter and dark feeling which really fit the style of the game and Luis had this bright lighting effect which made all the lights throughout the city become brighter and more colourful. I think these filters really helped the player see liberty city in a different light and assisted the overall story. Also, they did the same with the radar and HUD with each feeling different.

Do you guys think they should continue this in GTA V with each character having a different style and filter. Like Michael could have a clean and upper class filter (similar to Luis) whilst Trevor could be all gritty and dark (like Johnny). I think they should continue this into the game as it would assist in seperating each Protagonist and differing their personalities.

i expect that Michael, Franklin and Trevor will have much more distinctive differences then Niko, Johnny and Luis

i expect the GTA 5 boys, will have different melee styles, ways of holding there guns, running animations etc. etc.

I hope the filters stay the same, but I hope the hud changes slightly somehow, just like in GTA IV and the Expansions.

I think different filters would be great, I really like what they did with TLaD, the filter makes all the difference in setting the scene imo. The only issue would be when switching between chars a lot, I can see it getting annoying in that case.

HUD "theme" change is a must though I think.

As long as there's no TBOGT pink. That color was a pain in the f*cking eye!

f*ck that! Pink is the sh*t!

Yeah, the filters would be kind of odd. The main thing is that the DLC storylines are completely isolated from each other, that is you don't just jump from one of them to another, you remain in each like their own games. So it makes sense to kind of make them seem like they are parts of different games entirely, with influences from different kinds of films (particularly with TLAD's grainy filter).

GTA V's protagonists, on the other hand, are all part of the same game, and can be switched between on the fly. So these differences would no longer be so subtle, it would be like a film where one scene looks like a flashy action movie and the next looks like a grungy psychological thriller. They have to all be treated like they're part of the same world and the same story, because they are.

That said, HUD changes might be less distracting. I'd rather any changes like that to be subtle, though. The differences between the characters I think should mainly be ingame. For instance, they could have different walking cycles, hold their guns differently, fight differently, etc. even if these differences are simply aesthetic. Also, pedestrians will react differently to each character, which has been pretty much confirmed.

I really enjoyed the different colour palette used in TBOGT, it was much brighter and colourful. Off topic, but what differences in car physics and handling are different from the original IV and its dlcs ?

please no

I second that motion!

Filters are crap, I don't like them. What you're suggesting OP could be very detrimental to certain protags.

If one protag has a crappy, sh*t looking filter, I doubt I'd want to play as them.

It was fine in what was technically three different games, but if the view is going to change every time I switch that will just be annoying.

No filters on this one, just makes no sense.

It might be useful to have different HUDs as a quick reminder of who we're playing as, which sounds stupid but you might spend a long time without seeing or even hearing your character. Of course they could also just have an icon somewhere on the screen as well. Either way, every bit to distinguish each character helps as long as like you said it's subtle.

I think filters are a cheap attempt at creating atmosphere if you ask me

I didn't like it in ELC. All episodes take place in the same city so the atmosphere is the same. The story and dialogue are what should be creating the tone, not some grainy filter that took 30 seconds to program.

I want LS to be bright and vibrant whether I am cruising through vinewood in my sentinel as Michael, or walking chop through the grove as Franklin, or selling crank in Blaine county as Trevor. The protagonists themselves create enough atmosphere. That's the beauty of LA, diversity

Off topic, but what differences in car physics and handling are different from the original IV and its dlcs ?

Bikes are the most obvious difference to me; it would take a lot more to knock Johnny of a bike than it would to do the same to Niko, and the cornering became much easier, and more fun.

On Topic: I think it'd be a good idea, since the differing filters in the IV games gives a slightly different feel to LC. A different UI (different phone models, different menu music and fonts) would be good too.

I couldnt disagree more. Leave the game alone. Like I said, let the plot and actions of each protagonist depict the mood, not some sh*tty filter.

A hud difference isnt a terrible idea but I would honestly rather have some uniformity.

Like someone else said, if there are filter differences there is a large chance that I wont play as certain characters

I would expect a game of this magnitude to have differences between the protags to be seen throughout their actions. Slapping on some colorful text doesn't exactly add much diversity. Perhaps like some of you have mentioned the protags can have different styles of doing the same thing and different mannerisms.

Algonquin Assassin

I'm not sure how this could be achieved. GTA IV/EFLC at their core were three different perspectives (with their own themes) of the same city. It's pretty much like the yellow/green used in Undead Nightmare compared to vanilla RDR.

With GTA V though it's not three themes in one game. It would only make sense if it was three different story angles again.

In normal GTA, The game looked dark and gloomy, In TLAD, the game looked real dark and gritty, like you could see a strong gritty effect on screen, and in TBOGT everything was bright and vibrant.

Exactly what I was coming in here to say. I expect each protagonist to have a different feel to each of them, especially the way you control them, how they move, how fast they move etc.

But a filter, or color-shift would be too noticeable. The HUD change though can work, considering whoever you switch to is going to have a different amount of money, health, and different weapons. So different colored HUDs wouldn't look weird.

I hated the gray in IV

I hated the grainy yellow in TLAD

I hated the pink in TBOGT, but I liked that it was colorful and sharper.
