Arcade style driving was only fun for me up until the age of about 10.

Realistic driving seems to be more fun to me, and the lifespan of the driving gameplay is longer as well. I'm still yet to get bored of Gran Turismo 5, even though it's been my most played game since 2010.

Well, if you want arcade driving play a game for 5 year olds, I want realistic driving cuz when I'm bored I always tried to drive like all them cars in IV so yeah, realistic is the best

I personally prefer arcade because i like fun driving and to get away from real life.

Driving in real life is fun. If it wasn't, there would be no motorsports.

Realistic. Arcade is boring because you never risk crashing.

"RICHARD, THERE'S A PEDESTRIAN DIRECTLY INFRONT OF YOU, SLOW DOWN!"

"Don't worry Elizabeth, I'll just swiftly perform an instant break of velocity whilst simultaneously turning my vehicle at a 90 degree angle!"

Also i would like to know if it is possible to have both arcade style driving

and realistic suspension and car physics.

You serious?

Anyway, this confirms you've never driven a car.

ps. Driving sims are way better than any other kind of racer. As in a lot more fun.

Im a fan of both but for gtav i wanted improved but simliar handling to IV i like it when you can do crazy crashes and rolls which you WOULDNT be able to do if its too realistic

Somewhere in between. Not 100% "arcadey" but not 100% realistic.

Yep.

Too realistic isn't fun. The arcade racing of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) was brilliant. In GTA, I'd like IV's driving but more refined. I'd like to be able to take corners fast, top speed to go up a little.

Of course there's a solution. You can have individual cars that handle very realistically and then you can have sports cars or cars that you modify that become more arcadey (in the best possible way). Hopefully it will mean fun driving with the longevity that realistic driving brings.

Thing is, realistic driving is not fun when you crash a lot, which i bet 99% of those who prefer arcade do...a lot ( just have a race online or look at people driving in free roam)

Once you get used to the controls, know how to turn properly, when to speed up and when to break/how to break ( what i love about IV is that you can lock your tyres) you will not only end up being very good at driving but you will actually love it as you will feel you actually did something well in game, its rewarding and makes you feel good knowing you improved. Too many gamers, especially now a days, tend to give up early on challenges and blame the game.

NOT that the driving in IV was challenging, IT WAS JUST different and required you, as A GAMER, to adapt to it and it took me and many people i know like... 10 minutes maybe to be able to drive properly... not sure how people can be so crap.

I have the sme opinion on controls, just because a game has different controls doesn't make them bad. It takes a little time but you do get used to them.

I went from BFBC1 to KZ2 ( which many say has horrible controls) and i got used to them in like 3 games and actually loved the game.

If you actually like arcade then fair enough, we are all different but if you like it because you think realistic is hard then that is your fault.

PS i don't want IV to be GT5 realistic ( i wouldn't mind it if it was) but want it to be like how IV was, which had a good balance i believe ( minus the too much traction, cars moved a bit too much when turning)

Look at SR3, SR2, SLEEPING DOGS, JC2 and pretty much every other open world game ( except mafia 2, which i actually prefer over those games listed because of the driving physics, SO DAM GOOD) fail because of the driving to me, it gets boring, no challenging and the physics are laughable ( keep em arcade if needed, just don''t make them so crap like they are) Not just the driving, but the helis and planes are kinda crap in them too, not fun to drive (especially the f*cked up helis in just cause 2)

Arcadr driving is pure garbage. IV was fine. Most who hated it and or called it 'realistic' more or less just sucked at driving.

Keep it like IV, it was annoying at first, but when I got used to it I loved it, I really enjoy those multiplayer races in IV.

A Cross Dresser

If I had to choose between Saints row 3 driving and GTA 4 I would choose GTA 4. Saints row's driving was extremely boring and repetitive for all vehicles.

I'm a massive fan of realism so no doubt in my answer here. I attempted to play SR3 seeing as I loved the original and also played a fair bit of the 2nd, but the driving became so arcade like I couldn't bare it and sold it the next day. I love the driving in IV, and can't wait for V because I know R* will have made it even more life-like. Excitement!

The handling in GTA IV was just fine. Sure, there is room for improvement but I think we do not have to ask for it since it will be definitely better in GTA V. According to the Game Informer cover-story, the handling in GTA V will be more like in racing games and the vehicles will have a little more physics which is good news to all who prefer the realistic driving in GTA IV since it will be even better in GTA V. When I sometimes play the older games of the series so for example GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas then I realize how terrible the handling in these games were compared to GTA IV. Other games such as Sleeping Dogs, Just Cause 2, Saints Row: The Third and so on have all an arcadeish handling and I don't like it one bit. The handling of the motorbikes from GTA IV was already improved in the both add-ons, TLaD and TBoGT, but on the other side, the handling of some cars [especially the new additional ones!] has deteriorated. The Super Diamond in The Ballad of Gay Tony is one of these new vehicles that drive like garbage and I hope that this won't happen with any vehicle in GTA V.

/Gets into a car in GTA IV

//Can't keep the car in a straight line

///Most the cars control like butter so I crash into a wall every turn I do

////As soon as I crash into a car, Niko flies out the window, bobs along the street like a fish before finally stopping with little help left.

I like realism, but when it screws me up like it does in GTA IV then it's kind of bogus...

I know i'm part of the minority here, but I was never able to get into GTA IV's driving style. The crash physic was perfect, but the rest was awful to me. It's not just about learning to drive, it's about making driving sessions fun and easy to control. Is GTA IV's driving "easy"? Yes, but the III-era is easier and funnier in my opinion, and when I drive I only want to have fun and a quick response from my car that allows me to concentrate less on the driving itself , and more on quick actions.

dozingoff.gif Dude just admit it, you're a sh*t driver. You lack the skills to drive in IV. How come when I drive, the cars handle heavenly, well most of the finer ones like Schafters, Sentinels, all of those performance cars,? How come I can turn corners while pressing on the gas yet still stay in lane hitting no one? How come I can brake well as well?

I know how to drive. wink.gif Simply by reading your post, you suck at driving. More,or less you probably take a Comet, drive as fast as you can without even thinking, amd then press the brake too late or too hard.

Learn how to drive, dude...

GTA IV's cars felt like they had an actual mass to them. They took a bit to accelerate, and when you hit something you really could feel the momentum of the vehicle causing a lot more force.

That's what I loved about them, and I really hope they really try to stick to IV's physics as much as possible

They're also not hard to handle at all. After playing for a bit, they become easy to control, as you can predict the cars movement and weight shift in turns.

Hell if it's raining and im in a Coquette, I even get a little tail happy on the streets of downtown algonquin

The way you have described it, I would say that this is not a problem of the game or the realistic handling, but it's rather a problem that is caused by you because you can't drive. I do not have any of these problems you have listed. If you play through GTA IV and you drive outside of the missions on the map then you'll learn after some time how to control each vehicle at best and you will also know then when to use the brake/hand brake. It's all a question of skills and experience that you can only earn if you drive often and long enough. One tip; if you drive with high speed and a full crash is inevitable then you should try to use the hand brake and then steer left or right. If you do that then you can avoid flying out of of the window provided that you do it right.
